The Angels are close to signing LaTroy Hawkins, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. This matches up with comments made earlier today by GM Jerry Dipoto, indicating the Angels were moving toward shoring up their bullpen. The deal is expected to be for one year, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
The Brewers also have interest in Hawkins, who posted a 2.42 ERA in 48 1/3 innings for Milwaukee in 2011.

Was going to LOL, but I love this an Angels fan. At least we are spending pennies on relief instead of dollars. History has shown that relief corps are highly inconsistent year over year so if we are gonna spend do it small. There are only so many relievers you can sign. More money for everyday players! Nice JeDi.

I agree so he better be in the thousand’s range

I’m amazed that LaTroy “Gas Can” Hawkins has still managed to find work
vtadave
yeah that 2.42 ERA and 1.9 BB/9 last year…awful
Conebone69
The man was a flaming gas can with the Cubs.
Much like Fernando Rodney, you better get used to praying
bobskube
Maybe it was the curse. He’s been damn solid since then.
Jerry Rice
A 38yr old pitcher with a LOSING record? Nice going Halos…
Connor Donovan
>Record
You’re a tard.
Jerry Rice
MY BAD Everyone…thought we were signing a STARTER – we all make mistakes (caught up on the CJ posts all day..)
Connor Donovan
Sounds like someone needs a hug. =(

His record still wouldn’t matter even if he was a starter.
Jerry Rice
Really?
Weaver 82-47
Haren 107-84
Santana 87-67
*CJ Wilson 43-35*

He was good last year but his career ERA is 4.48

Gotta replace Fernando Rodney with something resembling a relief pitcher
Conebone69
They just replaced Rodney with his older step brother

Yeah, that woulda been nice…too bad they signed Hawkins.

Oh, LaTroy, you dirty whore. Posting gaudy stats until the crucial games, where you fold.
Just ask the fans of the Twins, Cubs, Giants, Rockies, Astros, Yankees….
Perfect for the Halos, though.
Diablo 2
If the game is close..I’m pretty sure and Hope Mike would be smart enough to put in Downs Or Walden..and The offseason isn’t over..I don’t see this being the last move for pen help

im not going to lie but i really like this deal,i was thinking latroy can setup or even be 7th inning relief. i likey

Sounds like a good move. We need some veteran leadership in the bullpen as much as we really need the arm. If he pitches like last year, it’s a bonus. If he just does ok and provide the leadership, great.
Jim Colitz
Oh no,
I remember this guy when is was supposed to save the Cubs!

Had a mental “ugh” until I remembered that he’s not Rodney, Rodriguez, Palmer, Kohn, or Jepsen. Yeah, okay.

People, relax… I’m sure this won’t prevent the Angels from making a big deal for an impact player, IF they decide to do so… if they’re going to shore up their bullpen, I’d rather see them do a signing like this, as opposed to $40+ mil for Ryan Madson, or whatever he’ll cost… As for the CJ Wilson thing, I still hope it doesn’t happen…the Marlins throwing in a 6th year could be doing the Halos a favor… then they might have money to go after Darvish or …maybe, maybe, just maybe…fingers crossed… Fielder. Then they can trade for a starter.
Thurman8er
Not sure why I never considered Darvish as a possibility. I guess I already had him in pinstripes. That would be nice.
Christopher Rydo
I think Boston’s a bigger threat for Darvish than the Yanks, to tell the truth… technically, the Yankees are set 1-5 in the rotation, but Boston’s in trouble… Could also see the Mariners sneaking in, given their strong Japanese fan base…
Thurman8er
I don’t think it will be Boston, partly because of their failure with big signings of late, but mostly because of Dice K. Darvish is filthy. Yes, please.
Christopher Rydo
Not to mention, DiPoto did say in one of his first interviews after becoming GM that he did want to increase the Angels’ visibility in Asia… what better way to do that than getting Darvish?
Thurman8er
Okay, I have to go pick up my trusty grain of salt again. Getting drool on myself and completely forgetting about that embolism I had last year after getting the Crawford news.
Diablo 2
Screw Darvish..I prefer all money on Prince..Or Angels Signing Kuroda and A-ram..Would have Preferred Buerhle but.. Miami over here have been the Yanks this offseason..

I’ve learned something, you people can NEVER be totally satisfied.
Hawkins should be a good sign for one year.
tomr
A little bit of consistency in the pen is what we need. Need I remind everyone of names like Rodney, Speier and Jepsen? All very capable of walking the bases loaded. Hawkins has a decent BB/K ratio and will be pretty cheap. Not a lot of risk here.
Jameson VanDyke
Dipoto’s big splash!? Could of done this deal from Anaheim. And the Pujols rumor is just plain damage control to make fans think they at least tried to sign a big FA this year. New front office, same results. Good thing you gave up Chatwood without a back up plan Mr. Dipoto.
