• Major League Baseball suspended Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez for 211 games, and suspended a number of other players (including Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta, Everth Cabrera, Antonio Bastardo, Jesus Montero, Francisco Cervelli and Jordany Valdespin) for 50 games each for their involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.
• The Phillies signed infielder Chase Utley to a two-year extension.
• The Indians signed utilityman Ryan Raburn to a two-year extension.
• The Rangers acquired outfielder Alex Rios and cash from the White Sox for infielder Leury Garcia.
• The Royals acquired utility infielder Jamey Carroll from the Twins for a PTBNL or cash.
• The Royals designated pitcher Francisley Bueno for assignment, then sent him to Triple-A Omaha. They also designated catcher Brett Hayes for assignment, and requested release waivers on catcher Adam Moore.
• The Indians designated infielder Mark Reynolds for assignment.
• The Rangers designated infielder Adam Rosales for assignment. The Athletics claimed Rosales, then designated him again.
• The Rays designated pitcher Kyle Farnsworth for assignment.
• The Phillies claimed outfielder Casper Wells. They also designated outfielders Delmon Young and Laynce Nix for assignment.
• The Giants designated catcher Guillermo Quiroz for assignment.
• The Blue Jays designated pitcher Michael Schwimer for assignment, then released him.
• The Astros outrighted pitcher Travis Blackley.
• The Yankees outrighted infielder Brent Lillibridge.
• The Dodgers outrighted catcher John Baker.
• The Giants outrighted pitcher Yusmeiro Petit.
• The Cubs outrighted outfielder Julio Borbon. They also claimed outfielder Thomas Neal from the Yankees.
• The Indians outrighted pitcher Joe Martinez.
• The Tigers released reliever Jose Valverde.
• The Mariners released outfielder Jason Bay.
• The Angels released reliever Ryan Madson.
• The Red Sox officially signed Dominican third baseman Rafael Devers.
• The Phillies signed Dominican third baseman Luis Encarnacion.
• The Pirates signed Dominican outfielder Jeremias Portorreal.
• The Diamondbacks promoted top prospect and third baseman Matt Davidson.
• The Angels signed infielder Andy Marte and pitcher Jason Urquidez to minor-league deals. They also released pitcher Mike Ekstrom.
