10:31pm: All that's left for Dotel and the Tigers to work out is the length of the contract, tweets Rosenthal. A one-year deal with a vesting option seems like the most likely outcome, Rosenthal adds.
8:37pm: The Tigers are close to a deal with Dotel, tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.
6:22pm: The Cardinals are the other team Dotel is considering. Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch tweets that Detroit seems to have the edge, but Dotel remains "enamored" with the Cardinals.
5:35pm: The Tigers have made an "aggressive" offer for Dotel, tweets Morosi.
4:44pm: The Tigers are considered the favorite for Dotel, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, adding that the other finalist is a National League team.
4:20pm: Free agent reliever Octavio Dotel has narrowed his decision to two teams and expects to make a decision soon, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.
BluMule
Mets? They seem to LOVE our bullpen
Blue387
The Mets do have J.P. Riccardi in the front office.
BluMule
Would explain that
altosax29b
We love you guys. Want to see a movie at 8? We can make out and stuff.
Blue387
I bet it’s the Marlins.
ukJaysfan
Oh, Do Tell ?
diesel2410
Rays? Maybe?
Josh Gedert
Tigers…hopefully.
Chris Schick
Angels.
Spencer VonHershman
Earlier rumor of the Angels acquiring relief help and this makes me hopeful. I’d love Dotel in the Angels pen on a cheap contract.
Jimbo504
Cardinals, he wants to play with Albert.
altosax29b
I see what you did there
altosax29b
I see what you did there
Dynasty22
Cardinals.
stl_cards16
Better be for under $2mil if they’re going to pass up the free draft pick.

verlander
I hope it’s the Tigers.
Ale
According to Rosenthal it’s between Tigers and NL Club
verlander
I hope it’s the Tigers.
Brett Steinman
Marlins! lol jk Blue Jays probably
dodgerskingsfan
maybe dodgers again…. wouldn’t surprise me one bit….
altosax29b
Colts! Canucks! Manchester United! Let’s just keep naming random teams!
Ale
Hahhahaa. I say Mets. You can never have too many relievers!
altosax29b
You also can’t have too many losses, that seems to be our case for the next few seasons 🙁
Ale
Hahhahaa. I say Mets. You can never have too many relievers!
WonderboyRooney10
owww the pain :[
altosax29b
Colts! Canucks! Manchester United! Let’s just keep naming random teams!
Madman2TX
This one may be the Rangers as supposedly they really like Dotel.
Alfredo A. Hernandez
Dodgers! 3 years 15 million! 1 milion in 2012, 7 million for 2013 and 2014. Or I may just be a little bit bitter right now.
vtadave
Rightfully bitter…I feel your pain.
Chris 48
Reds?
Aaron Kayser
Tigers or Dodgers…..heard it hear folks. Would love to see him in Detroit, but with the news that the Dodgers were close to adding BP help, have to believe it was them….
Aaron Kayser
I realize BP normally stands for batting practice… if they want BP help the Dodgers can sign Brad Penny, if they want bullpen help, they can sign Dotel…
Josh Gedert
I find it hard to believe you’re right when you can’t spell “here” correctly.
Aaron Kayser
Oh, I spelled “hear” correctly, I just spelled the “that’s what I” preceeding it incorrectly…
Josh Gedert
Zing!
WonderboyRooney10
I wonder who the favorite is to land him this July
Jon Stark
Dotel should stay out of the AL. It didn’t treat him so well last season. He looked a lot better in the NL.
ctownboy
Reds have been linked to Dotel and Toothpick Baker just can’t have enough players near retirement age…..
Chris_RG
Trying to tie Matt Stairs’ record for most ML clubs played for, eh?
Ferrariman
long way to go…
CaseyBlakeDeWitt
Actually each of them has played for 12 teams, assuming you count Montreal/Washington as the same team, in which case, Stairs has 13, but if Dotel does sign with the Tigers they would be tied again.
JacksTigers
Tigers, please.
MattCMoore
Why do you want him again?
verlander
He’s put up good numbers.
EightMileCats
Bc our pen fell apart at the end of the year last season. The only dependable arms we had were Benoit, Cokehead, and large potato..
tycobb
FML…..
DT Flush234
Even though Detroit made an aggressive offer. I can still see him resigning with the Cardinals.
verlander
Why? I’m curious.
jhfdssdaf
Because he’s “enamored” of them.
The_BiRDS
“The Cardinals are the other team Dotel is considering. Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch tweets that Detroit seems to have the edge, but Dotel remains “enamored” with the Cardinals.”
Thats why
inleylandwetrust
I’m not liking the sound of “aggressive offer”…would love to have Dotel, but only on a 1 year deal.
TheBigNice
It’s going to take 2 years to turn him from the Cardinals.
The_BiRDS
Yeah, I dont blame you.. sound like a 2-3 year deal.. I would only want him for a year…maybe half and trade him
RationalSportsFan
Tried to post this earlier, but it looks like it failed…
Enrique Rojas says (in Spanish, which is why it may not have been included here) that both offers are 1 year offers. Apparently Dotel is trying to squeeze a second year out of one of them.
roberty
The sweepstakes is on to find out which team will be dealing Octavio Dotel at the trade deadline!
RationalSportsFan
Hey, he has only played on 5 teams in the last two years…
DT Flush234
He should resign with the Cardinals. Then Cardinals trade Kyle McCellen for a utility OF and a low tier prospect.
Evan 5
face it, the tigers NEED a bullpen arm in the 6-7th innings who can sit down righties. Al Al can’t be trusted to be healthy. Does it need to be Dotel…..no, but it wouldn’t be a bad signing probably.
Conebone69
Detroit’s bullpen would be looking pretty decent with this move.
Especially if Alburqurque(?) can ever recover from the line drive off his head. He was never the same after that
RationalSportsFan
Yea it would. Valverde, Benoit, Coke, Alburquerque, Schlereth, Dotel, and then (personal favorite) Pauley as the long man (former starter who is also surprisingly adept at getting out left handers).
Perry, Wilk, Below, Ni, Villareal, Weinhardt, Hoffman, and Stohr as depth. Hey, that’s a full AAA bullpen!

DT Flush234
Oh well the Cardinals get a draft pick now.
cards2WS
Dang, really liked Dotel.
Ferrariman
Good bye Doc Oc. Thanks for the NLCS and eliminating Braun, enjoy the ring. Very underrated aspect of Cards success in playoffs. Plus a draft pick! hurray. Should be a high one too in the supplemental round as well since he used to be a type A.
inleylandwetrust
Gah, fine. Vesting option. DON’T GO 2 GAURANTEED!
JacksTigers
Yo estoy contento!
NoNeckWilliams
With a name like Octavio, he must be an eighth inning specialist.
Jeff Westcott
The Tigers will be his 13th team in 14 seasons. I wonder if that’s some kind of record?
chee1rs
again …. why ???
