Here's a look at some items concerning the AL and NL Central..
- Several Royals officials have told Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star (via Twitter) that any major roster upgrades will come through trades rather than the free agent market.
- There's nothing serious between the Tigers and Aramis Ramirez at the moment, a source told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (via Twitter).
- In a deal for John Danks, the White Sox told the Yankees that they want Manny Banuelos and Jesus Montero from the Yankees, tweets Jon Heyman of SI. Heyman writes that the Sox are obviously not serious about dealing Danks just yet.
- The Tigers looking harder at the market for No. 5 starters than had been anticipated when the offseason began, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The club is after a reliever as well.
- The Cubs told at least one team that it would take an overwhelming offer to even consider trading Matt Garza, tweets Jon Heyman of SI.
- The Brewers are interested in hearing what it'll take to sign Jimmy Rollins, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
- There's lots of skepticism over Albert Pujols' claim that he is 31 years old, tweets Jon Heyman of SI. Heyman writes that the slugger may not be able to top the Cardinals' nine-year, $200MM offer if he cannot produce a birth certificate.
- Jim Riggleman will accept the Reds' offer to manage their Double-A affiliate, writes Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. Earlier today, Heyman reported that Riggleman was offered the position and was likely to accept.
”

Heyman’s source: Luke Scott.
That was good. 🙂
Please, DD. Sign Reyes. Do you want me to beg? Because I WILL beg.
No. Sign Cepedes/Buerhle.
I really don’t want Buerhle and while I’d love Cespedes, I’d rather have Reyes. But if Ilitch gets really excited….
Meh. I feel like the only one who doesn’t want Reyes. If you signed Cespedes, you’d probably have money left over for SP and 3B/2B. Can’t see that with Reyes. Maybe you trade Jhonny for a pitcher, then. idk.
I just don’t want Reyes. Boo.
Then who would be your shortstop? Sign Reyes and Juan Pierre. Trade Young for bullpen help.
I’m sorry, but emphatic NOOOOO to Juan Pierre.
Jhonny was fine last year. Why does everyone want to get rid of him?
Maybe you trade Jhonny for a pitcher, then. idk.
That was a quote from you made less than 45 minutes ago. I say move him to third. You said trade him. How quickly we forget.
I know what I said. Thanks for being condescending, though.
You didn’t say anything about moving Jhonny to third, so I assumed you wanted to trade him.
But I said nothing about trading him. You said trading Peralta was an option. Then asked me why I said it. You’re not making any sense.
It was a frigging suggestion because I didn’t know what you were suggesting we do with Jhonny. You didn’t say anything about moving him to a different position.
Are you mad?
You’re annoying.
Hanley Ramirez is likely available now. He’s said before that he won’t move off SS.
Yeah, Buerhle and Reyes each sound like they’ll cost around $15 mil a year. Give me Reyes over Buerhle any day of the week.
Buerhle is unnecessary. Reyes is just what we need.
Reyes will cost more like $19MM.
At that price I’m not quite as interested. But I’ve heard 6 years, $90 mil floated about. And if he would take a bit of a discount to go to a real contender instead of the Marlins, I’d be all over that.
Assuming that the Marlins 6/111 offer is true, perhaps you can match it. But I wouldn’t go over. If it’s not, then offer 6/102.
I wouldn’t offer six years for José Reyes if someone held a gun to my head.
I’d be fine with 6 years as long as they don’t have to go over $17 mil a year.
He’s only going to be 34 in 6 years. The back end of that deal won’t be near as bad as most big free agent deals nowadays.
And shortstops that are great offensively and defensively are so damn rare.
Sounds like he’ll be getting $18.5 mil per if this reported Marlins deal is true.
Please Tigers sign Reyes and Cespedes that would be a great Christmas present.
You’d have to add $15MM+ to the payroll, but while unlikely, it is possible. Cespedes’ salary would nearly be canceled out by Young leaving. If Ilitch is excited enough, it could happen.
Ya that would be a great Christmas present especially considering that im moving in with my grandma.
reyes is a marlin
my bad, didn’t see the time on the comment
Pujols is probably like 34 or 35. He should grab that 9 year offer from the Cards.
I’m curious where you are getting this. Do you have some proof? Maybe you saw a link with proof that you would like to share with us? Or you are just grabbing for conspiracy out of thin air. You sure did create conspiracy with the JFK video. You just can’t get enough can you, Mr. [Fake] Zapruder.
What? GM’s won’t take Dan Lozano’s word for it?
If the Tigers signed Reyes and all they did after that was trade Delmon Young away for a bag of balls and signed a cheaper option (like Coco Crisp) to replace him, I’d still consider this an EXTREMELY successful off-season.
Reyes alone would make the Tigers a legitimate World Series contender. That’s more than you can say about any other player that’s available. Get it done, Dombrowski.
If Fielder goes to the Rangers they will be the best team in baseball. Plus they already are better than the Tigers.
I don’t see how that relates to anything I said, but thanks for sharing.
Good for you?
tl;dr
If Reyes is healthy and If he transforms from a selfish pos to a good team player then yes he would make the tigers WS contenders.
The thing about Pujols is he is an american citizen. Not sure if a lot of you pay much attention or know a lot about immigration in the States, but it is lengthy and in depth process including background checks to verify documents. I find it HIGHLY doubtful that Pujols not only tricked the MLB verification but also the U.S Government.
Yeah, he’s not the president
The birth certificate should be easy to find. It’s right there in the same room as the President’s…….
except in the one case there was a reason to doubt (other players with falsified ages and BC’s) where as in the case of the president you have to be absolutely mental to think he was not a US citizen.
That said, I really think Pujols is probably as old as he claims to be.
They could both do like Satchel Paige with regards to the location of a birth certificate.. Say that their momma kept it in the family Bible and that the goat at it years ago…
People need to get over Pujols’ age. Some people just look older, I mean look at Greg Oden!
12in12 #cardinalnation
Oden seems to have osteoporosis so he’s probably lying about his age as well.
HOLY COW! Riggleman to manage Reds double-A team? I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT! WOOHOO! Go Redlegs!!! OK. Got that out of my system.
You’re excited about the Reds hiring a manager who quit on his players in the middle of the season? I’m shocked Riggleman got another job at any level.
Uh….not really. It was a joke, man. Could actually care less.
how bout the tigers trade peralta to the cards for lohse?
Vargas, League and Triunfel for Castellanos!!!
Yea right. Castellanos is our future at 3rd.
Terrible offer!
You tell ’em Kenny. No more BS trades, we want value!
There is value and then there is what Kenny Williams just asked for. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Call Cashman back when you actually want to make a trade, Williams.
Williams is clearly out of his skull thinking he could get just Montero back for Danks, or just wants to keep him in the 1st place. asking for Banuelos on top of Montero just makes him look even more like a maroon.
It’s called asking, not demanding. Its obvious the Yankees won’t give either up for Danks, but many GM’s are known for making stupid trades. Giants trading Zack Wheeler (Giants #2 Prospect coming into the season) for a half season of Beltran. I think Danks can be had for a package of Romine or Betances, along with Noesi and smaller pieces
Yeah, its all part of the negotiation. Start really high because you can only concede, you can’t go and ask for more.
Exactly. People who actually think Kenny Williams thinks 1 year of Danks is worth Montero + Banuelos are sorely mistaken. It’s a negotiating strategy, not a firm offer that he expects to be accepted.
Oh Chicago, you guys are some silly gooses. ;3
(But seriously, what has gotten into the minds of the White Sox FO?)
It’s a strategy, not a serious offer.
You think they would ask for Cervelli and Joba….
Which isn’t nearly enough. Obviously they’d need to find middle ground between asking for the Yankees entire farm system or receiving a bag of baseballs if this trade ever happens.
What’s so difficult? If Yankees think the price is too steep, then just stick to CC-Nova-Hughes-Garcia-AJ, or give ur farm to Gio Gonzalez. No one is forcing them to pay what Sox deserve. If they don’t like it, then find other alternative. But I think it would be tough to find good pitching for a package centering around Betances.
