The Cubs have had multiple discussions with Mark Buehrle's agent Jeff Berry, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link). Berry also met with Marlins earlier today. Morosi sums up the other interested clubs: the White Sox, Blue Jays, Royals, Angels, Nationals, and Diamondbacks.
Earlier in November, we heard that the Cubs would have interest in the longtime White Sox pitcher "if the price tag and years aren't astronomical." Considering the number of Buehrle rumors we've heard so far this offseason, there appears to be plenty of competition, but we don't have a clear idea yet of the years and dollars the lefty might be offered.

These rumors depress me, because if we didn’t have Lohse and Westbrook under contract next year Buehrle and Oswalt would probably be Cardinals. Oh well. Lohse is a good number 4 and Westbrook is serviceable, but the rotation looks so much prettier if it was:
Waino
Carp
Oswalt
Garcia/Buehrle
Buehrle/Garcia
One can dream.

I’m holding out hope that Mo finds a taker for Westbrook – a pitching-needy team willing to take on the contract and give nothing but a middling longshot prospect in return. Then sign Buerhle.
Admittedly this scenario is highly unlikely; Buerhle has plenty of other suitors, and Westy’s contract is bad.
I’ll pass on Oswalt, his best days are behind him.

North Side Superior!!

I like that the Angels aren’t linked to him b/c that to me means they could be quietly behind the scenes….

Dbacks are getting Buehrle.. so back off Theo!! 🙂

The White Sox are interested in Buehrle…holy cow

sox fans never saw this coming…

Like Mark would go to a team thats atleast three years out from doing anything when he is close to retiring.
Guest 6111
By your theory the White Sox have no chance of signing him either. At least our overpaid players can hit over .200, and the best part of that comment is one of them is a pitcher!
ImDaBaron
Except the White Sox had 3 players that we didnt expect to play as bad as they did. Did you expect Dunn to play as bad as he did? No because a year earlier he was playing just fine. Rios and Gordon were as well. The White Sox are not a team consisted of a bunch of scrubs. If those 3 players hit just average last year we would have made the postseason. Cant say the same about the Cubs. The White Sox dont have a good chance to sign him because of payroll.
Guest 6110
Those 3 players hitting their avg wouldnt have brought you 12 more wins and put you in the wild card. And for sure wouldnt have made you a division winner. You are acting like the white sox are so much better of a team than the cubs, yet you only won 8 more games.
ImDaBaron
Great thanks for proving my point. I never said we would be division winners. But we would of made the postseason. The Cubs unlike the Sox are going through a complete rebuilding. All you had to do was use your own two eyes last year to see which was a better team. It’s pretty obvious one was clearly superior.
Guest 6109
Superior better by winning 8 more games and finishing below .500? Guess you missed when I wrote you wouldnt have won the wild card either! But yeah your team is clearly moving forward with your 53 million being spent on Peavy, Konerko,Rios, and Dunn! Then when you take out danks and or floyd of your rotation it is really looking like a workhorse of a staff. I bet the Tigers are trembling from the thought of your dynasty team you have going there!

Seriously D bag Cubs fan… Outside of Castro who I think could be a future superstar, who do you think is better positon wise on the Cubs? Konerko better than Pena; Beckham is about equal fielding wise with Barney; Alexei is as good as Castro certainly in the field; Morel is better than oh yea you dont have a 3B right now; A.J. is at least as good as Soto; Soriano is a mess in left and hits about the same Avg wise as Pierre and doesnt even come close to the player Quentin or Viciedo is; Byrd is probably a bit better than Rios; and I have no idea who the RF is but Viciedo or Quentin is better barring a FA signing. Bullpen is no match for the White Sox; Rotation is probably a bit equal.
ImDaBaron
Im glad someone had their eyes open last year. Agree 100 percent.
Tyler 17
Did you seriously just compare Soriano to Pierre?
Tyler 17
Actually Soriano is about as equal as Quetin in the OF. Over 13 seasons Soriano has posted Fielding Percentages of as follows: 1 Season -CF 1.00% , 6 Seasons- LF .968%, 6 Seasons playing – LF/CF/RF .969%
But I actually can’t believe you used Soriano and Pierre in the same sentence. haha
Soriano’s Career –
Batting: .274 BA, 340 HR, 927 RBI, 264 CAREER SB
Achievements:
2 -W/S
7- All-Star Selection
4- Silver Slugger Awards
———————————
Pierre’s Career Line:
Batting: .296 BA, 16 HR, 484 RBI, 554 SB
Achievements:
2- NL Stolen Bases Champion
1- AL Stolen Bases Champion
1- W/S

past is past my man… They had very similar impacts on their respective teams this year is all I was pointing out. Yea I know Soriano has more power but their on base skills are pretty much the same. Fielding skills are both equally bad as well.

Because Mark knows the future for the Cubs is extremely exciting….where the Sox..not so much. The Sox are in a downward spiral that hasn’t even hit bottom yet. They can’t even enter rebuilding mode for several years. They are where the Cubs were two years ago. Although the Cubs still have a couple bad contracts, many are already off and Theo’s in town now. I guarantee Mark is highly entertaining the idea of hitting the North side and I will llllllllllllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh!
WrigleyTerror37
I’m waiting for a cards/wsox fan to bring up the times he said he would only pitch for the wsox or cards. And the time when he called Wrigley a dump.
I think Buehrle would be a great fit with the Cubs. He would be our # 2 or 3 (all he has to do is beat out dempster) and would bring a Inning eater and post important a Lefty in our rotation. sad thing is tho i dont see him signing with us.
Guest 6112
I would like him as the #2. Having a proven LHP in between Garza and Dempster would be nice.
terribleusername
I’m excited about this if only for the reason it would give the Cubs three pitchers with no hitters under their belts.
WrigleyTerror37
that would be a fun-fact, I could see it on the daily cubs calendar!
stewie75
like this a lot… he’d be good in wrigley, seems like he’d have no issue with the wind blowing out. i’d go 4/$60MM with him, he’d add real stability to a rotation that needs it BADLY. Throw in Maddux as the manager, and it’ll be like having 3 great pitching coaches on the team.
Kevin Moylan
Buerhle growing a life long cardinal fan pitching on the South Side his whole career I think Cubs have 0 chance in getting him with many teams showing interest. He is like Ozzie he has never cared for the cubs does not like the cubs and does not like cub fans and has criticized fans and Wrigley in the past. I give it 0 chance of happening, as good of a chance happening as Pujols going to the White Sox. Not saying the White Sox have the upper hand with Buerhle even with him playing his whole career there, but Cubs i would think would not be on his list even if they have reached out to his agent and discussed it.
CubHope
Just hope that Buerhle’s agent isn’t overstating the Cubs’ interest just to get Kenny Williams fired up…..White Sox fans would crucify him if Buerhle ends up being a Cub
CubHope
…have to wonder if Buerhle’s agent is overstating the Cubs’ interest just to get Kenny Williams to up the ante…..Sox fans would crucify KW if Buerhle ends up being a Cub

Would love to see him come over, just to infuriate Sox fans, if nothing else.

Yup I like Mark way better than Cj..I just hope he ain’t high like Cj and is seeking a 120M contract for six years
