Cesar Izturis is looking for a Major League deal and has drawn interest from several teams, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun (on Twitter). The infielder won’t be re-signing with the Orioles, according to Connolly.
Izturis, 31, has spent the past three seasons in Baltimore, where he has played shortstop, second and third. He missed much of the 2011 season with elbow and groin injuries, but has a .255/.295/.322 line in 11 Major League seasons. UZR suggests the former Gold Glove winner has been an above-average defender in each of the past six seasons. Izturis is a client of Peter E. Greenberg & Associates, the same agency that represents free agent shortstop Jose Reyes.
Braves unfortunately fit
Better than jack Wilson.
i have no idea who jack wilson is, but there is no way he is a worse baseball player than cesar izturis.
Are you new to baseball? Jack Wilson has been around for a pretty long time.
Better than jack Wilson.
Better than jack Wilson.
Backup infielder for the White Sox
on what, his money in the bank
…why…
I’m good with him as a backup but nothing more than that
he’d be a pretty legit backup
Could fit the Rays as a switch hitting, good glove SS with AL East experience and a 1 million dollar deal. At .250 for his career against righties, he would be an improvement over a regressing Brignac
I couldn’t disagree more!
AL East experience is super key for a backup SS.
Wouldn’t mind him off of the bench.
God, he’s only 31? Seems like he’s been around forever
thats what i was about to write haha
Pick up for the Jays reuniting with him maybe? He can play 2nd if Kelly Johnson declines and signs with another team. Then you got McCoy and Izturis on the bench to fill in.
starting jays 2b? :/
starting [insert any team] [insert any position]? :/
if it comes to it, but i wouldnt go for him if i was AA lol
Tigers? need speed, he fits that mold. better than raburn at second.
Did you watch Izzy in 2011? Speed, where and when? 2004 was a long time ago when Izzy was good.
he’s certainly not good you’re right about that, but 47/62 in the last 3 years isn’t the worst on the bases (75%) and i still say better than Raburn.
Introducing……Zack Cozart’s backup. Who said the Reds weren’t going to make a splash in free agency this year?
He’d be an ok backup. He’s probably better than Janish. I’d rather have his brother though.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back to the Dodgers. He’s at least as good offensively and defensively as some of the other backup middle infielders on the market. We have fond memories of his defensive play in LA — the double play combo with Alex Cora was something to watch. I think he’d be warmly received by the fans.
