Ozzie Guillen for Mike Stanton? It's not as outlandish as it sounds. There was some discussion about a trade that would have sent the White Sox manager to Florida for the young Marlins slugger, according to Chris De Luca of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Stanton entered the year as the third-best prospect in the game, according to Baseball America. He hit .313/.442/.729 in the minors with 21 homers and followed that up with 22 more long balls and a .259/.326/.507 line in the majors. He's just 20 years old and he's under team control through 2016. They don't come much cheaper or much more powerful than Stanton.
Guillen wouldn't be easy to replace, either. He's charismatic, energetic and vocal – sometimes opinionated enough to make the White Sox uncomfortable. Chicago won the 2005 World Series title under Guillen and the team has a 600-535 regular season record since he took over.
Even if the trade was 'discussed' it doesn't mean both sides seriously considered it, so let's not kid ourselves: this deal isn't going to happen. But we can still ask the question…
Which team would have won the Guillen-Stanton swap?

They can have Leyland back instead, he has TWO pennants. OOooooO

It is completely outlandish when you consider 1) how quickly managers are axed these days, 2) the professionalism (or lack thereof) of the marlins’ front office, and 3) the obvious fact that Stanton is under team control through 2016. And come on, the guy has craaaazy potential.

What a stupid poll, it´s impossible, Ozzie is a good manager but Stanton is a power hitter, capable to hit 50 or 60 HR in a season. If true, would be the worst trade ever…
Marlins not are stupids, Stanton is a great player, the best power hitter right now in the majors
moonraker45
60 HR’s in a season?
Big Davey
The Marlins aren’t stupids…
I’m sorry, Marlins not are stupids…

I think that’s my favorite sentence in months. 🙂

ya, 60 home runs, he’s THAT powerful. and no, nobody is that stupid to pen him in for 60 HRs next year, just don’t be shocked if he ever does it, because he’s capable.
moonraker45
its still outlandish to suggest 60 HR’s considering no one has hit 60 HR’s not on juice since 1961. Only 5 people in history have done it. The kid has raw talent and will be a super star, but if people start putting 60 hr/season expectations on him they are going to be sorely disappointed

i don’t think anyone expects him to hit 60 HRs but he certainly has the power to. keep in mind he just hit 43 home runs between AAA/MLB as a 20 year old.

thats a direct quote from above.
While you are being realistic, i think 40-50 is realistic, i just think some people are not being as realistic as you.

If you saw some of the half swings he took that ended up as homers to opposite field maybe you would agree. seeing him play every day he has the ability to hit 60 homers for sure, but to do so he needs more plate discipline and to strike out less. he seriously has ridiculous power though and the general consensus is he will hit 45 homers. if he had Jason Heywards plate discipline 60hr would be really easy.

This deal would make more sense if it were Ozzie for Mike Stanton, the 40-something ex-Yankee and Brave reliever.

Stanton for Eric Wedge, come on M´s

I would like to opine that not only is it as outlandish as it sounds, it is MORE outlandish than it sounds. this is the dumbest thing ive ever heard of.

Let me get this straight – three years ago the Marlins would not put Stanton in to the Manny trade when he was in low-A ball, but now when he’s one of the best young hitters in baseball who put up power numbers that rival all time greats they are going to trade him for a manager that is an every day PR disaster?
Whoever is sourcing you this rumor should be lobotomized.
Sniderlover
I can’t believe there are even a few people that voted Marlins would win the trade. Seriously?
O971
Best rumor ever.
The funny thing is I can’t honestly think of a manager who would actually be a worse fit for Mr. Loria’s Marlins.

I’d like one of the currently 15 people who voted Marlins to explain their rationale… or are they just all jokes? Absurd, haha.
Big Davey
It’s thoughts of trades like these that get people fired. Woof.

If I were to guess what topic would be the on the top of MLBTR when I woke up, a proposed “Ozzie for Stanton swap” would probably be near the bottom of what I expected.
bigpat
Yea, you can’t make stuff like up. This has to be one of the strangest rumors I’ve ever heard.

So far 24 out of 430 people are saying the Marlins would win the trade.
We now have a baseline for the ratio of insane:not insane amongst MLBTR readers.

I meant to vote for the White Sox, but accidentally clicked on the Marlins… maybe that is what happened with the other votes too.
