The Giants are interested in MLB home run leader Jose Bautista, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (via Twitter). ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported today that the Blue Jays are asking for elite young players in exchange for Bautista, but the Giants must be getting used to such demands, since they're eyeing other top hitters.
The Giants remain interested in Corey Hart and David DeJesus, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Adam Dunn and Jorge Cantu are also on the team's radar.
Cantu has drawn interest from the Rangers and Angels; the Nationals are reluctant to trade Dunn; the Brewers want Jonathan Sanchez or Madison Bumgarner for Hart; and the Royals have a steep asking price for DeJesus but teams are still interested. None of those bats will come cheap and the Giants know that better than anyone. They're presumably willing to give up talent to improve an offensive attack that ranks ninth in the NL.
The Braves, Padres, White Sox, Rays and Rangers are among the teams that could also be bidding for hitters, so the price could remain high until the July 31st deadline.
I would go all out for Adam Dunn, honestly. You could really solidify a middle of a lineup with Dunn/Huff/Posey/Panda once he gets his stuff together

No Way trade for Fielder. He is a Huge fat ass, is slow in the field, and his numbers are worse than the past few years. This trade would be similar to the Barry Zito huge contract….
His rbi’s are down, but he’s leading the NL in home runs. He’s also been big his entire career and last week obtained the record for most consecutive games played in Brewer history.

I don’t see why that’s relevent. Fielder has a year of arbitration left, so I’m sure the Giants would look at it as a year and a half of him even if they don’t choose to try to sign him to a free agent contract. And besides, why would this scare the Giants in particular? They have shown no reluctance to deal with Boras before (with some unsavory results, admittedly).

The dude is a flat out stud. Unfortunately Bochy isn’t patient enough in young players to give him the chance. dude would go off in a place like Miller Park. Numbers here in AAA Fresno off the charts every year and last year PCL player of the year. I’d hate to lose him, but then again, I’m smart enough to know he’s going to go to waste here in Fresno
Considering the Black Hole they have in RF you would think they would give him a better shot at the big show. Schierholtz is a defensive replacement (at best) and putting Burrell in LF and huff in RF downgrades the defense considerably. a Huff-Torres-Bowker OF is a lot better than what it is now.
Bowker hasn’t been able to hit in the Majors. He’s a career minor league guy.

I think an fair deal would start with Hart and James Shields from the Rays.
James Shields is a very good starting pitcher with an extremely team-friendly contract with a number of club option years. Corey Hart is a so-so corner bat with little defensive value and coming up on free agency. So no.

I would say the Giants give Brett Pill (we have Belt in the minors who has jumped to top prospect in a hurry), John Bowker (he would thrive at miller park), Zack Wheeler, Clayton Tanner, and if absolutely necessary Sanchez. But I think that would be enough to ply Fielder without giving up Neal and Belt…
Brewers don’t want Sanchez for Fielder. They want young pitching that will be around for awhile…ie Bumgarner
Bumgarner isn’t going to be traded. He has more value than Fielder right not. Young left handed pitcher that is still under team control for 6 years, has been a stud on every level, and is dealing at the major league level.
Linececum, Cain and Bumgarner are going to cost more than most teams can afford or would want to trade.
Personally, I would take the pass on Hart. His numbers aren’t consistent enough for me and I agree with 55, he would be another Rowand. Same goes for Werth-less. I personally would like a left handed power hitter like Dunn or Feilder. They both have more than enough power to drop bombs in the pond and would compliment what we already have quite nicely.

Giants offense are on a roll right now and they are in the tops of runs scored this month. Adding a piece like Fielder or a speed/avg guy like DeJesus only solidifies the lineup. While DeJesus adds to the top of the order Fielder will add the knock out punch that the Giants don’t necessarily need but if they do acquire him they have a very potent offense for the post season if they get there. My ideal lineup doesn’t have speed, but does have pop with average.

i personally think that dejesus fits the bill in terms of affordability and fit more so than the other guys being talked about… the giants need a guy who can hit to the gaps and have good ABs. forget the power guys and focus on professional hitters.
You get enough good hitters in the line up you can score a lot of runs, but every contender needs a legit bat in the middle of the order.
Your reasoning would work out if our guys had a higher OBP and could run, but they are station to station guys (except for Torres) and just flail at everything.
Fielder is not worth the prospects. In order to keep him past 2011 it will take an epic amount of money that the giants won’t have once the pitcher’s contracts start getting even MORE expensive.

I like your positivity about Sanchez but he hasn’t played 3B since 2006. Granted he played it well, but his defense at 2B is way more valuable than Uggla’s. I dunno, I just don’t want Sandoval going to 1B because his D is worse at 1B than it is at 3B.
I’d do it. Sandoval is better at 3B but he’s not going to cost us games if we move him to 1B. Uggla is a HUGE upgrade over having Renteria or Ishikawa in the lineup.

just cause your asking for elite players doesn’t mean you’ll get them. Bautista’s ceiling is a Carlos Pena type player good power low average. You don’t get elite prospects for decent bats. I think something like Ehire Adrianza + Brett Pill would be a pretty good haul for bautista. And if im the giants i still pass…….

Proof? People said that Bautista couldn’t keep up the home runs back in May, but he’s still going! It’s possible that he’s never hit like this before because he’s always been a non-regular since 2007, and on a shitty Pirates team.The fact of the matter is in his last 591 plate appearances, dating back to last September, he’s hit 36 home runs and driven in 85RBI, and that’s only 5 months, not a complete season!

Hitters like Prince don’t come along very often and Bumgarner isn’t Cain or Lincecum. Brewers are looking for front line starters not relievers and SF needs a power hitter. And you have him for 2 pennant runs and if you can’t sign him you would get 2 supplemental picks.
Brewer fans should know better then anyone what Bumgarner is capable of he may not K 200+ a year but could easily develop to a very solid #2 with his control and composure. I think i would trade Cain before i would trade BUmgarner at this point with age and team control taken into account.
Sanchez and Wheeler is too much. They a want a top 50 hard throwing pitching prospect along with a top 100 prospect right. Then how about Zach Wheeler (#48) Thomas Neal (#96) Brett Pill and Brandon Crawford. Still a lot to give up but i think it’s pretty good for both sides.

If the giants trade some pitching or prospects for a bat, then it would have to be a big one like Dunn, Fielder, or Bautista. Otherwise it is not worth it.
Someone noted in the MLBTR Chat that Neither DDJ or Pods is in the lineup today, calling way for a possible trade in the works.
I’d like to add that neither is Alex Gordon in AAA.
(Gordon is the first to get called up if DDJ or Pods gets traded. Kila being 2nd, or 1st if Gullien gets traded)
Lets see the N.L. get some bats as opposed to the star studded A.L. East. Rangers can’t add anybody due to financial constraints. Both S.D. & ATL should end up with big bats. One will get Hart, the other is left with DeJesus. Not bad.
