Rosenthal’s Full Count Video: Gonzalez, Torre, Millar

By Luke Adams 2 | May 8, 2010 at 3:45pm CDT

Ken Rosenthal's latest Full Count video is up at FOX Sports. Let's check out the highlights of this week's clip….

  • Given the Padres' success so far and the slow starts by some clubs who may be interested in Adrian Gonzalez (Mariners, White Sox, Braves), it looks for now as if the slugger could be traded in the offseason rather than in July.
  • If the White Sox made a play for Gonzalez, they wouldn't want to extend him for $20MM+ annually past 2011.
  • Friends of Joe Torre indicate to Rosenthal that the Dodgers' skipper may not want to return next year if the organization is still handcuffed financially by Frank McCourt's divorce. Rosenthal suggests that the Mets, Cubs, or Braves might end up being options for Torre.
  • Rosenthal questions the Cubs' decision to part ways with Kevin Millar, noting that the club could have used the 38-year-old's energy and clubhouse presence. The St. Paul Saints will be the beneficiaries of that clubhouse presence now.

I respect Torre, but, I want the Braves to go for a younger guy to be the next manager.

care to cite a real source for Torre’s comments? Or are these just WAG by these supposed “friends of Torre”?

Well, no manager who has been talking about an extension will tell anyone that is respected by the public that he may not want to come back… then factor it is Joe Torre, and you are gonna have to either believe ‘friends’ or not believe the story..

sure, that was sorta what I was hinting at…but as I recall this is MLB Trade RUMORS not MLB Unsubstantiated “Facts” I read on a blog somewhere from a guy who knows a guy that had a cousin who had a sister who’s friend dated a guy…who knows all about Torre… 😉 So, this was why I asked for a source or reference to a source. 😉

I was basically saying that there’s no way that we’ll get an actual source… Torre would kill them if they were telling the media what he’s thinking

I’m more inclined to believe that Torre would retire.

Torre may not last the whole season, the whole orginization is a mess.

Rosenthal is nuts! Millar has nothing left in the tank, and even if he did make the team he would be gone anyway because Tracy got sent down when Castro got called up

    Joe Torre a Brave again?

That would be awesome, IMO. He’s cut out of the same mold as Bobby Cox as far as old-school managers….not to mention, he’s been a Braves manager before. Remember 82? (LOL)
