As the 2025 regular season continues, here are three things we’ll be keeping an eye on around the baseball world throughout the day today:
1. White Sox 40-man move incoming:
It was reported yesterday that the White Sox are calling up top infield prospect Chase Meidroth for his big league debut this weekend. Meidroth, 23, was one of the key prospects the White Sox acquired from Boston in the Garrett Crochet trade. Though not a consensus top-100 talent like headliner Kyle Teel, Meidroth was coming off a .293/.437/.401 slash line at Triple-A with the Red Sox last year and this year is off to an even better start with Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate through nine games, as he’s gone 8-for-40 with a double, two stolen bases, and three homers. Before the White Sox can call up Meidroth, however, they’ll need to clear a spot for him on their 40-man roster by designating a player for assignment or transferring someone to the 60-day injured list.
2. Crochet to return to Chicago:
The White Sox are getting their first big league returns from the Crochet trade just as Crochet returns to the south side in a Red Sox uniform. Boston is kicking off a three-game set against the White Sox in Chicago today, with Red Sox southpw Sean Newcomb on the mound opposite White Sox righty Davis Martin. The main event will have to wait for Sunday, however, as that’s the day Crochet takes the mound against his former team, who will send Rule 5 pick Shane Smith to the mound opposite their former ace. Crochet has been brilliant so far for Boston, with a 1.45 ERA through three starts. Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1:10pm local time in Chicago.
3. Angels on a roll:
The Angels have been one of the league’s most surprising success stories early in the season, thanks in large part to a phenomenal start from youngster Kyren Paris. They’ve won each of their first four series to open the 2025 season, and this weekend they’ll go for their fifth straight series win against their division rivals in Houston. The series kicks off today with young righty Jack Kochanowicz (3.89 ERA in 13 career starts) on the mound opposite Ronel Blanco (2.80 ERA in 29 starts last year). On Saturday, southpaw Tyler Anderson (3.81 ERA in 31 starts last year) takes the mound against Astros youngster Ryan Gusto in his first career start for Houston. The series then wraps up with veteran Kyle Hendricks on the mound opposite Hayden Wesneski, the pair of whom were teammates on the Cubs in each of the past three seasons.
Meidroth is actually 8-30. He’s taken 40 PAs
It doesn’t matter. The point is that you can’t make judgments based on tiny sample sizes. Look at guys like Gage Workman and Cam Smith, who had phenomenal spring stats. And what did they do coming out of the gates? They pooped on themselves. It’s mice to see early success, but it doesn’t affect future results one way or the other.
Aww rats!
You had a typo.
Cat got his type
Mice catch !
coop – ST stats are worthless. Players experimenting and more than 60% of the players aren’t even major leaguers.
Early regular season stats do have some value.
Remember – “Meidroth was coming off a .293/.437/.401 slash line at Triple-A with the Red Sox LAST YEAR”
2024
At bats – Ave – OBP – OPS
437 – .293 – .437 – .838
Is NOT a small sample size
Just look at what Rowdy Tellez did in ST compared to what he’s done since opening Day. SEA actually bought that con, and now they’re stuck with him.
solar – Rafaela hit .316 with a .935 OPS in ST ….. he is now batting .205 with a .484 OPS!! LOL!!!
Hoskins looked very draftable with 6 HRs in 42 ABs and a 12/9 K/W. You don’t expect that to continue, but you also don’t expect a .451 OPS.
Kenny from South Park?
thats nice – .450 OBP plays well. Been lostening to the White Sox games, we already need a spark, Jacob Amaya has been awful at SS.
On a positive note, the White Sox rule 5 pick Shane Smith is off to a nice start. Looks like he is going to stick on the roster all season.
the angels won’t stay like this for long. just give it a week and they will somehow find a way to be below .500
@zacknetofan. Besides the whitesox they have played teams that should be around .500. We will see how they do against Houston and texas
Cleveland it a good team and in all reality, the Halos should have swept them all 3 games if not for a super human effort by one man. Still 2 of 3 from Cleveland and Tampa is a good start.
@redstitch. Should’ve said .500 or better. Cleveland is a playoff team. Tampa might get screwed because of George steinbrenner field. They might be giving up alot of homeruns.
They for real this year. Wow, Adell hit 20 homers last year and he is batting 8th. Strong line up. Strong pitching. Strong fielding. The 4.5 angels will not look back. Strong April (rare). Strong may. Watch it happen. The umpires are calling on the angels side. Remove doubt. What you see is a good sample size of this years magic.
@goldmasters. Not worried about the offense. Just don’t think Hendricks, Anderson will hold up against the powerhouse teams. They will be fine against the younger teams because they pitch smart, but teams with a loaded lineup will pick them apart.
Soriano is an ace, Koch is a four and Kikuchi is a 2 or 3. The staff isnt similar to past years.
Yeah Anderson and Hendricks are time bombs in the rotation. Hopefully Detmers figures it out when one of these guys falters. Loving the ground ball outs Soriano is inducing and Kochanowicz doesn’t need to strike anybody out if can keep getting weak contact outs. Would love for Bachman to finally give us something with Joyce going down.
@stretcharmstrong. Bachman might be done hopefully not but he has T.O.S. I think at some point Ian Anderson or detmers will swap spots with Hendricks. He did better last year out of the pen.
This is the best pitching staff theve had in 15 years
One big difference in the team (Angels) this year is that they have nasty dudes in the bullpen. It’s been years since that was the case. That fact is really going to make a difference this season so long as they stay healthy.
Team has solid starters and relievers so they will stay in contention unless the injury bug hits again. Ron Washington is a players manager so I’m not surpised…
Joyce to the IL with right shoulder inflammation. Darrell -Hicks back up. Don’t count on Bachman, he can’t stay healthy. There isn’t much pitching in the upper levels of the system. Hopefully a couple of the prospects can make the leap to Anaheim.
Meidroth is an on-base machine without huge power. The SLG this year is a big outlier. Looks like a natural lead-off man.
Crochet has been “brilliant” for just one of the three games.
His first game he went only 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 walks with only 4 K’s.
His last game he went only 5 2/3 giving up 5 hits and 4 walks with only 5 K’s. He got lucky with an error leading to 3 runs not being charged to him.
He needs to pitch at least 6-7 innings for nearly every start. To accomplish that, he needs to reduce his pitch count. To accomplish that, he needs to improve his control. To accomplish that, he needs to stop overthrowing.
For what he’s getting paid, he needs to provide at least 175 IP this year like Houck and Crawford did last year.
He’s getting $3.8 million for 2025.
Fan – So you’re saying Crochet can suck this year because his monster contract doesn’t begin until next season? Haha!!
He’s got a guaranteed $170M contract extension, he needs to pitch like a $170M pitcher.
Fever: This doesn’t have to do with Crochet, but as far as pitch count, that seems to be the one thing keeping Skenes from going longer into games. I noticed that from his first three big league starts. This does: You have to remember that Crochet was on the White Sox. Overthrowing might just be his glee over being rescued from the Titanic. He’ll be alright.
FPG: “He (Crochet) needs to pitch at least 6-7 innings for nearly every start. To accomplish that, he needs to reduce his pitch count. To accomplish that, he needs to improve his control. To accomplish that, he needs to stop overthrowing.”
==================
Crochet has accomplished that!!! He has pitched 18.2 innings in 3 starts this year. Crochet is doing fine.
Where’s Crawford?
hayzee – Carl is probably in Houston running his record label.
Or did you mean Paxton?
He had a knee issue apparently most of last season, tried to rehab it and it bothered him early in ST. So he’s on the IL, not sure if he has pitched yet. I don’t think so, or Cora would have provided updates on him when talking about Bello and Giolito.
Ridiculous take. They didn’t pick him up expecting him to eat a massive number of innings, and no one with any knowledge of his history or baseball in general should use that as the primary data point to evaluate him.
matt – Innings and ERA are THE two most critical data points for a starting pitcher.
Fried 174 IP
Burnes 194 IP
Skubal 192 IP
Sale 178 IP
Houck 179 IP
Imanaga 173 IP
Wheeler 200 IP
Cease 189 IP
Lugo 206 IP
Ragans 186 IP
Those are the top SP’s based on last year’s Cy voting.
I don’t know what’s worse, that you call 175 innings “massive”, or that you don’t understand the importance of SP’s doing their job for at least 175 IP so their bullpen doesn’t get overworked.
If you had taken a couple minutes to do the research, you wouldn’t have posted such a ridiculous accusation.
The target used to be 200 IP for a starter. Now it’s 175? With so many starters going only 5 innings, the new target may fall to around 150 IP. The more they’re paid per year, the less they work off the mound. Nice work if you can get it.
real – I totally agree! And as you can see above, some people here are brainwashed into thinking 175 is a “massive” number of innings.
MLB is trying to bring back real starting pitchers by floating a minimum innings per start requirement, I hope they do it. Not only will it help the bullpens, it should prevent injuries as well.
If you had taken a couple minutes to consider the context around this specific pitcher, you wouldn’t be spouting off with misinformed hot takes. Last year was Crochet’s first as a starter, so to think he’s suddenly going to go from a carefully managed workload to being a bulk innings guy shows how little background you actually have.
matt – You are the last person who should be talking down to anyone.
And I am the last person that anyone should talk down to.
I took the time to enlighten you with the IP of TEN of the top starting pitchers from last season. And instead of thanking me and apologizing, you insult me even more?
One last time:
It’s NOT 2024 anymore.
Crochet is fully recovered from his TJS and he himself has confirmed NO RESTRICTIONS WHATSOEVER THIS YEAR.
Despite pitching as an opener from July thru September, he still threw 146 innings last year.
Increasing his workload by 29 innings this year is not a big deal …. we are talking 5 more innings a month for God’s sake. He’s only 25 years old, wake the hell up. He’s not soft like you claim him to be. Maybe YOU couldn’t physically handle pitching an extra 5 innings a month, but he sure as hell can.
What makes your argument even more moronic is that PITCH COUNT matters more than innings. Like I said, if you’re so damn concerned about him breaking down again then you should be focusing on his overthrowing and poor control that’s caused him to throw more pitches than he needs to.
Now cool it with the attitude and educate yourself before talking down to others.
I believe they were pointing out his primary flaw, not using it as the primary data point to evaluate him. To be an ace, ALL the numbers have to be there, not just quality of innings but quantity of quality innings. No teams pays $170MM for a quality opener.
stymee – Excellent post, thank you!
Yes it’s incredible how some people here want to pay more for less.
Don’t we have enough of that already with groceries, services, etc.
Well, Fever Pitch Guy, let’s agree to rescind the trade that sent Crochet to Boston for prospects who have thus far shown absolutely nothing at all. I’d gladly take. Rocket back. You can have all those “prospects.”
real – Chase has a 1.050 OPS in AAA, that’s showing “nothing at all”?
Regardless, Red Sox Nation would love to have the trade reversed. Of course your team would have to foot the bill for the $170M extension.
Then my team could use three of the prospects to trade for Skubal.
Imagine believing you speak for an entire fan base.
Olmtiant to lead the Nation on Sunday!! Need to start a streak again… and with games in Milwaukee and Wrigley this could get expensive… Hoping Brais comps me two behind a beam at friendly confines …..
olm – After Sunday you’re handing off the baton to FPG!!!
Go to Tampa instead of Wrigley, great seats are selling for just $9 ….. not kidding!! Let some other fans fund Tucker’s contract extension.
Beams aren’t a problem for Brais ….. all you gotta do is “tilt” ;o)
Lol, nicely done!!! Honestly would love to see in Milwaukee… win or lose the tailgating is always a big WIN!!!
olm – Have you been to American Family Field before? I have never even been in Wisconsin.
Never been to a game in Chicago either. I’ve been in Illinois though, I stayed in the Belleville Basher’s hometown for the ’04 World Series.
Only 22 days to go …… I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!!!!
Oh my many games!!! Use to go to at least 2-3 every year old county stadium… knew the 80’s brewers almost as much as Redsox.. When it became Miler park maybe a handful… Haven’t been to Wrigley in years.. 10-15… fun fact… saw Billy Sims 2nd nfl game at county stadium..When Barry took 20 I said boy he’s got some big shoes to fill in Detroit!!Lol!!!
Not to take away from the Angels strong start but they did have their first 6 against the White Sox and Cardinals.
Rick – Agreed, both weak teams ….. and you can add the Rays to that list as well. I picked them to finish last in the division, they seem to be headed in that direction.
@fpg. Angels had a losing record against teams under .500. They had a winning record against the dodgers and Yankees. Idk i think cards, and rays will be around 76 wins.
Rex – Your Cards and Rays predictions seem reasonable.
Some people think the Rays will be contenders because of their pitching, I don’t see it. And their pitchers get injured more often than just about any team.
@fpg. I will admit i didn’t know anyone on the offense side. Rays might drop in the standings because of the stadium. Right field is only 320ft. Trout did a line drive homerun. I just think besides the whitesox they played some half decent teams. Guardians should make the playoffs
Rex – Absolutely the ST stadium will hurt the Rays, especially after May.
Rex: That’s fine just as long as the Tigers do, too. KC might make it again if they can get some OFers. It would be nice to see three teams from the formerly weak ALC get into the PO again.
U R just a negative Nancy! They will hang around all year especially when they get Neto and Moncada back healthy!
Well they can only play the team in front of them and this year seems different in the early going because they are winning series against “beatable” teams
The Cardinals were 3-0 when they faced the Angels. And had home field advantage in St Louis. So, wouldn’t minimize that series. Angels also beat Cleveland and Tampa Bay, they’re no slouches.
I think its far too early to judge any of this but this is the internet and this is what we do..how about this the worst defensive red sox team ever…imagine if devers was actually in the field lol it can always get worse..
Sometimes it takes awhile to find the balls.
Pool – It’s true the catcher defense is poor as is Casas. However KC is just going through typical rookie growing pains, Story needs to get familiar with KC, and I’m certainly not worried about Abreu or Duran.
Bregman’s errors are quite surprising and concerning though ….. he’s on pace for 41 errors, far more than Devers ever had in a season. LOL
Temperatures in the 30’s the last few games haven’t helped the defense. Especially a guy like Bregman that’s not used to playing in the cold. He seemed to make adjustments last game getting closer to 1B before throwing.
Let’s not discount the two spectacular diving catches Rafaela made in the Jays series. The defense is a work in progress but it’s better than last season
Rsox – Ummm ….. two of Bregman’s errors were in Baltimore (82° and cloudy, no rain) and the Sox home opener (67° and sunny).
:O)
Fever: Fear not. Sent Zavala is on his way to shore up the defense behind the plate.
Seriously, Fever? Bregman has been a game changer for the Sox with his defensive play—on balls that would have eaten Devers alive. Projecting from a few errors in the first two weeks with a guy that has a long track record is like projecting Devers to hit ,050 from his first 21 at bats, or projecting Tuffy Rhodes to hit 488 homers based on his three homer performance in the first game of the season years ago (I don’t believe he hit ten that year or any other). I’d agree that Crochet hasn’t been brilliant, but he also has t been the disastrous signing you make him out to be. Seems like you cherry pick the guys and deals you approve of and look for any numbers to back up your (reasonably informed, to be sure) know-it-all opinions. You hated the Crochet deal from the get-go because you felt giving up Teel was a massive blunder. You then use any shortfall on Crochet’s part, regardless of how many games in we are, to justify that belief. Did you really believe that a staff of Houck, Bello, Giolito and Crawford was going to be an improvement on what we saw last year? And do you still believe that they should have dealt Mayer instead of Teel in the Crochet trade?
steldar – You’ve been reading my posts, that’s fantastic!
Thank you for your response, I will do my best to reply to each topic you brought up.
All offseason and last season people here insisted Devers was a poor fielder, and the numbers backed that up. People used Errors and DRS among other stats to support their belief about Devers. All we heard was “Devers has the most errors every year blah blah blah” even though we ALL KNOW there were factors behind that, including the ginormous amount of innings he played.
Anyhoo ….. you can’t pick and choose when you use stats vs when you use the eye test. Stats were used as a reason to demote Devers, so stats will be used for Bregman …. especially when we all know Bregman fanboys like you are gonna say your eye test shows Bregman to be the best fielder on the planet.
Bregman is statistically the 4-worst defensive 3B in MLB right now (min 100 innings). He has ZERO DRS.
He’s tied for the MLB lead in errors with 3 (also Matt Shaw).
He’s got the 2nd-worst DEF in MLB with -0.4
He’s tied for the worst Range in MLB with -1
And he’s tied for the worst OAA in MLB with -2
So your insistence that Bregman has been spectacular in the field is not only inaccurate, it’s hilariously laughable.
And I don’t give a damn about track record, because fielding is just as volatile as relief pitching if not more. You love Bregman and you hate Devers, I get it …. that’s your prerogative. But the numbers don’t support your opinion of how Bregman has performed on defense this year.
Secondly, where I am projecting anything? “On pace” is not “projecting”., they are two entirely different things.
Where did I say Crochet’s contract extension is a disaster? Sure I’ve said it was not a good idea, but I constantly take a “Time will tell” approach with everything. I hate making predictions, and yet here you are accusing me of doing just that? Shame on you.
I have repeated stated Crochet has immense talent, my biggest concern has always been his health and his unproven durability.
You’re a Crochet fanboy, I get it …. that’s your prerogative. But when somebody writes in an article that he’s been “brilliant” this season, I’m gonna set the record straight. That’s all I did, no need for your white knighting.
I am one of MANY who disliked the Crochet trade and the extension, yet you come after just me? Why is that?
My opinion of the trade hasn’t changed because of two week’s during the regular season ….. IT’S THE SAME OPINION I’ve had SINCE the trade.
I said IF one of the Big Four had to be traded, I’d rather it would have been Mayer instead of Teel. My stance hasn’t changed on that, why would it? Mayer still needs to prove he can stay healthy for a full season, just like Casas.
My TOP preference would have been replacing Teel in the trade with another prospect that wasn’t one of the Big Four. The Red Sox overpaid, with the trade and the extension, everyone knows that.
Okay I believe I’ve answered all your questions. Hopefully this will help you realize baseball players are just people, you shouldn’t idolize them nor should you feel angry just because others don’t idolize them as well.
Haha, this has nothing to do with idolizing. I simply don’t buy into the notion that you should be the Red Sox GM. I don’t white knight anyone (except Willie Mays as a ballplayer and a few of his contemporaries), nor do I think star players (e.g., Devers) suck. I’ve played and seen enough quality ball in my days to know that Devers, though not a consistent disaster, was always going to be an unreliable third baseman. We’ve seen great (Lowell) and decent third basemen at Fenway. Raffi just seemed not to be becoming a pro’s pro down there. I don’t know what to think about Casas’ fielding. Some plays he looks great; others he looks like he just put on a first baseman’s mitt for the first time. I like him as a hitter. I agree with you that the jury is still out on Campbell. As for Bregman, I don’t think he’s the second coming of Mike Lowell, but I do think he knows his way around an infield. Is it possible he has lost a step and will prove the Sox brass wrong? Of course it is, and you and your followers in Red Sox Nation can legitimately (and will, certainly) crow I told you so from the rafters. I thought he was a good get—unfazed by pressure, a grownup in the room where one was sorely needed. Would I rather have had Soto? Of course, but I don’t think your part of the Nation would have cheered on an $800 million, 15 year deal.
The bottom line is that your posts, which I do read because you are obviously an informed fan, bug me mostly because of their smug “I know more than the entire Sox front offfice and actually know every detail of why they do what they do” approach. “Everyone knows” they overpaid for Crochet. Really? Who exactly is everyone? Sounds like our President. “Everyone knows the stock market will collapse unless I’m elected.” The experts I’ve been reading and listening to seem to think the Sox did great by being bold enough to do what it took to get a front line pitcher and a solid righthanded bat who could help settle down the infield. If the Sox could have had Crochet for a bundle of lesser pieces, there’s no reason to believe Breslow would have done that. That doesn’t make either acquisition perfect—they improved the team, I think most would agree. Your collection of stats—some laden with recency bias—doesn’t tell me that. Bregman is a worse third baseman than Devers. I don’t envy you having to spend the entire season looking for evidence to support your view that both acquisitions were mistakes. If Mayer and/or Crochet go down with a serious injury you will have the pleasure of telling everyone you knew they blew it.
Another day we can visit the question of how awful Cora is. Unlike you, I believe his strengths outweigh his strategic errors. Obviously everyone was questioning his decision to pitch tonSpringer yesterday. In fact had Abreu not pooched his throw they’d have had a good shot at the runner from third. Clearly his calculus was that he didn’t want another baserunner who could stretch the lead while the team is in a serious (and hopefully correctable) slump. Not a simple call, to my eye, though it obviously felt that way to most in the moment. Keep on writing—despite our disagreements I enjoy reading your holier-than-thou takes. You’d make Dan Shaughnessy proud!
To be clear..i was being sarcastic with the worst defense ever comment..point is its too early to judge on many fronts..ie 14 games for the team and 3 starts for crochet and for those wanting to turn meidroth into the next great obp machine lets let all of this breathe a bit like wine and see where we are in mid june
Pool – I totally agree, some people here are very reactionary and jump to conclusions without thinking or even spending any time to confirm their initial thoughts.
Case in point, people here thought Rafaela’s strong ST meant he would have a Mookie-type career. They assumed he would be the everyday CF for the entire season.
They also assumed Priester would be a #3 SP this season.
They also assumed Bregman would continue to be a GG fielder.
And they assumed Crochet would be the new Pedro or Sale.
Obviously none of those things has happened, at least not yet.
Let’s just chill and watch what transpires, rather than acting like you’re Nostradamus. NOBODY here is Nostradamus. Past performance doesn’t guarantee future results.
Spot on. Fully agree with this take!
Sarcasm, okay, but I was a little surprised by some of the defensive stats I’ve seen. With Story and Bregman, and Rafael f/t in CF, I expected better. And I think they’ve looked better.
They have…over a larger sample size than 14 games..ive had bad weeks so far be it from me to judge on such a small sample size with much better track records and 5 months to go..course internet again..me aside everyone else is perfect..lol.(sarcasm again)
Us Angels fans need this. It’s been a tough decade watching the Dodgers do what they’ve been doing, and then doing it with Ohtani. We need this y’all!
Ron Washington’s contract needs to be extended. This doesn’t work without him.
@teamspirit. Yeah they should extend him to perry’s contract.
Enjoy it while it lasts. The next 9 games will be a big test for the Angels against the Astros and Rangers on the road and then home for the Giants
@rsox. They should be able to handle the Astros. The talent level is close to the guardians. Rangers and giants might be a challenge. I’m just more worried about Hendricks and Anderson getting lit up.
It’s been a really fun start to the season. Obviously some guys will cool down but then again adding Neto will be a boost.
I’m just enjoying it while it lasts.
As a Halos lifer, all I could ask for this season is progress. And so far that is what I see.
Give some credit to O’Hoppe.
The good start for the Angels is not sustainable. It’s in the DNA of the organization to fail year after year.
It sucks our fanbase is so chalk full of losers
Don’t be so hard on yourself
A losing team has loser fans
From 2000 -2012 they were second in playoff appearances
I agree this is not sustainable for the Angels but the biggest difference thus far has been starting pitching keeping them in games. They have won games they usually would lose last year. The bullpen has been great which it could be all year and of course O’Hoppe and Paris have been clutch. When they get Neto back and can stay healthy they could win 80-85 games.
@coachburger. Yeah i agree. It’s because I don’t trust the starting pitching. Mostly Anderson and Hendricks. We will see how they do against Texas and san Francisco.
93 wins, you heard it here first
That’s true. One of those games Kenley shut down seemed liked he was surprised. He got lucky that day.
Oh boy Crochet is pitching Sunday!! Not good!! Olmtiant is the kryptonite for our # 1 starters.. exhibit B…. 1986 Clemens has one loss on road… late 90’s Pedro pitched decent.. left with lead only for reliever to give up 3 run bomb to Joe (mfer) Crede… Sales first time back gets shelled and only game of his life by Deven Marreo saved me!! Throw in Pap,was perfect in save opportunities only to give up tying HR to Jermaine Dye.. and lose in extra innings… Can’t they save GC for opener in Tampa and bring up that Tony Robbin’s guy?? I do much better when Kyle Snyder’s / young John Lester’s and RIP Timmy would get the starts….
olmtiant: This is the 2025 White Sox, not the 2005 version. Should be a three game sweep by the Red Sox no matter who’s pitching. Depending on his pitch count, I have Crochet getting into double figures in Ks Sunday. Just wish I could see it.
Avenger I hope you’re right!! But the Olmtiant curse is(was hopefully) strong… so much so I waited till November in 04 to celebrate just to be sure!!!
Does anyone know how many Ks and IP Crochet has this season?
avenger – Yes, I do.
People can discount these wins for the Halos all they want. But a win is a win and winning series is something we didn’t do the last few seasons. Good to see Trout healthy and playing, the kids and vets stepping up and the pitching and hitting working. I know…I am cautiously optimistic . It has been fun so far. Playing our division rivals will be a good test to see if it is real. Go Halos!
DG good for you and Halos!! The late great Earl Weaver said a win in April is just the same as one in September…..
The White Sox’s promotion of Chase Meidroth (.267/.450/.600 in 9 Triple-A games) lines up with Garrett Crochet’s return to Chicago this Sunday—now in a Red Sox uniform after being traded in December. While Meidroth has flashed elite plate discipline (8 BB in 40 PA), he has yet to debut in the majors. Crochet, meanwhile, has posted a dominant 1.45 ERA over his first three starts for Boston. Though early results are promising for both clubs, projecting definitive surplus value or WAR swings from this trade is premature. Notably, the deal that brought Crochet to Boston cost the Red Sox four prospects: Meidroth, Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, and Wikelman Gonzalez—making it one of the winter’s boldest pitching gambits.
