This week, host Darragh McDonald is joined by Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors to discuss…
- The Rays no longer having a deal to build a new stadium (2:15)
- If the league is pressuring Stu Sternberg to sell the Rays, but why didn’t they do the same with John Fisher and the Athletics? (6:40)
- The Rangers dealing with injuries to Jon Gray and Cody Bradford (recorded prior to the Patrick Corbin signing) (14:05)
Plus, we answer your questions, including…
- Who is a more likely trade acquisition for the Mets, Sandy Alcántara of the Marlins or Dylan Cease of the Padres? And who would command a larger trade package? (20:50)
- Should the Pirates trade one of their catchers? (24:20)
- How realistic is it that the Mariners have better offense than last year and are in position to use their prospects for deadline upgrades? (28:40)
- Should the Yankees try to plug holes with veterans or give playing time to younger guys? (34:25)
- The Tigers are trying Javier Báez and Spencer Torkelson at different positions. Are they trying to increase the trade appeal of these players or delude themselves into thinking they could actually provide value? (38:25)

Why does the intro song to a baseball podcast sound like Wings of a Butterfly by HIM?
cyber – It’s a Canadian thing, eh.
It doesn’t
Cease trade rumoring is officially a national past-time, right up there with knitting and videogaming, even surpassing the “why not sign Bauer?” chatter. How can so much material be extracted from the same dead story?
The reason baseball left Oakland is because Oakland is a sewer of a city with crime that’s out of control and unfettered by local government. Tampa/St Pete is a lot safer place to take your family to go see a game.
Baseball left Oakland cause the A’s wanted the city to pay for a stadium and the city told them to touch grass.
Didn’t have sand to pound so…
Oakland has some of the highest crime rates in CA, higher than SF and San Jose, but it’s not even top 20 in the Country.
St. Louis, Kansas City, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, NY, LA, Miami are cities with MLB teams that have higher crime rates.
Even Las Vegas has a higher crime rate than Oakland.
Long story short, crime isn’t the reason why the A’s are moving. Sorry if facts derail your talking points.
Lot of crime in DC and that’s before you leave the White house
Lot of crime in Toronto, San Diego, Atlanta, Tampa. Then they hired the Dog McGriff and he helped take a bite
You can always tell from the comments section where people get their political talking points they seem to want to regurgitate on a baseball rumors site for some reason.
Yeah what’s the deal with left field or lefty pitchers we don’t need that silly woke stuff more Maddux less Maddow
Simply beautiful.
Why are the Cardinals allowing John Mozeliak to remain with the Cardinals in 2025???
They have his replacement hired.
Mozeliak has done nothing positive this offseason.
Plus —- Anything he has tried to do during the off-season —- whether it pertains to resetting the team or trying to trade a man on a no-trade contract — has failed miserably!!!
Just his presence around the Cardinals Organization has built up total animosity between the players, owners, management and Fans alike.
If the Owners allow Mozeliak to remain employed and he is introduced at the Opening Day Ceremonies—— it will be the absolutely worst thing they can do!!!
Mozeliak will be BOOED so loud they will be heard across the entire state of Missouri!!!
It will be a total embarrassment for the entire club.
Wish they’d hire new people to do this podcast,Darragh McDonald sounds like he has breathing issues and has a weird way of speaking,
Figures, nerds!!
What level of disrespect do you operate at?
Plus-plus levels. Near-elite but lacks nuance.
I feel good about the the Mariners offense starting the season IF everyone stays healthy. But then, they started LAST season in 1st place for a couple months then swooned…
No offense, but there’s no offense
Ding dong the deal is dead, deal is dead, deal is dead, ding dong the wiki deal is dead
The Mets don’t get either of those guys. They will get someone less talented for more money than any other team is willing to spend.
I’m not following. Please explain slowly. Thanks.
So if (or when at this point) the rays relocate where could they go? Nashville? Utah? San Antonio? Montreal?
If they were to move the Rays, it’d be tricky because every viable landing spot is also a viable spot for a new franchise. Nashville is the likeliest spot for a new team, so probably not there.
My vote would be move them to New York and have a third team there. They’ve had 3 teams there before. Plus, they could keep the name and just re-interpret it for a third time…
The New York Ray’s. The logo could be Ray Romano’s face. He could throw out the first pitch at every home opener.
I’d move them to San Diego and make them a NFL team
Congratulations on your 100th episode, Darragh! Keep up the good work.
Having two catchers who can (theoretically) hit seems like an obvious competitive advantage that few try to gain.
Baez play a passable SS? Even hurt he played pretty well at SS defensively. His defense has been good this spring. The issue is/was/will be his hitting. Having Baez play different positions gives AJ more flexibility in filling out his line up card. Unless Baez turns into an absolute offensive monster he isn’t going to be the primary SS.
Anthony was correct on Keith. He came through the system as a 3B until he hurt his shoulder. Apparently didn’t need surgery but never regained the full strength needed to make throws from 3B so he was moved to 2B. Now playing 1B as a nod to Torres signing since he wasn’t willing to play another position. Plus gave us a hedge if Tork didn’t improve. That said Tork has had a great spring so being able to plug him in other spots helps get his bat in the line up.
Happy 100th!!
