I always enjoy Steve’s chats!
He brought up a great point, if the A’s sign Pivetta it’s only a 4th-round pick they’d lose. I still think the Braves could snag him though, and they were the top team in the recent poll as well.
“The Rockies exist in their own bubble that is entirely dependent on the whims of the sport’s most insular and overly optimistic owner. I don’t know how they’ll win under Dick Monfort.”
And that’s why nobody hates the Rockies …. cept Rockies fans
Loved the saga of the cats.
Like “The Rockies exist in their own bubble…”.
That said, I thought their fanbase was content with how this quirky ownership views things? They sure do draw well. My Orioles have put together 3 winning seasons in a row and attendance is far below Colorado.
Rockies fans appreciate the emergent stars Tovar at SS, Doyle in CF, and look forward to RHP Dollander breaking with the team.
The jury is out on most of the remainder of the team players, save perhaps McMahon at 3B. The Kris Bryant signing appeared to fans as an attempt to salve the wounds of the departures of Arenado, then Story and Gray with little to no returns, let alone sending future payroll to the Cardinals for Nolan.
Fans are tired of the blue sky prognosis for the future, and Bud Black does not appear to be the one to lead the youth movement the Rockies are slowly revealing.
Colorado has a strong baseball fan base, hence the strong attendance numbers. However, half the fans in the stands are transplants, and retain loyalty to visiting teams.
Remember, the AAA Denver Bears/Zephrs drew a half a million fans annually in the 70’s and 80’s.
Great stuff Sportsc. Thanks for the local intel.
Oh, I am a Tovar fan. Wish a guy with his skill set played SS here in Baltimore not Henderson.
Tabby cats are tricky. There’s a doppelgänger in our neighborhood of our tabby Freddie, though Freddie is much bigger. On our cameras, it’s harder to tell.
No such issues with our tuxedo named Mookie.
Love Steve’s optimism regarding the Mariners.
I think Detroit’s spring training storyline will be the resurgence of Spencer Torkelson. I think it’s the most likely of the most unlikely scenarios.
