Crazy the baseball rumor mill is so dead that MLB trade rumors is posting basketball trades…anyways the main driving factor behind this trade is if Luka Doncic stayed in DAL he was eligible for a 5yr-$345M super max extension. DAL was hesitant to give him the max extension he was going to demand because of his work ethic. He leads the league in “blow bys” plays in which he is the nearest defender when an opposing ball handler gets a clear path to a basket. His D is weak and his work ethic is questionable. AD & Kyrie fit better then Luka & Kyrie, now that alone wouldn’t be enough to trade a 25yr old superstar for a 31 yr old superstar but when you take the conditioning and effort in to perspective it makes SOME sense. Also are the Lakers really ANY better right NOW? They now have two Point Forward players in Luka & LeBron who are questionable defensive players, for LeBron his excuse is his age and stage of his career, the Lakers also don’t have any big men now. In the here and now this trade might not be a benefit to the Lakers but obviously over the course of the next year and a half it is if not further. But who knows if Luka work ethic really is that questionable he might blame the Lakers for costing him the $345M max extension he is no longer eligible for and maybe he refuses to re sign with them. Lots of layers to this trade at this point. Point is Luka effort lead to the Mavs somehow feeling comfortable enough to make this trade and feel AD is an adequate replacement.
