The ohtani contract is bad for baseball. Deferring such a large amount of the contract is nothing but circumventing the luxury tax. I understand that deferrals aren’t new but there should be some sort of cap on them to limit the percentage. Even if the deal is “only” $460 million the dodgers are avoiding the luxury tax in a way that shouldn’t be allowed. Hopefully the lockout after 2026 addresses this and caps deferrals at 10-15% maximum.
