Veteran utilityman Ehire Adrianza has decided to retire after 12 Major League seasons. The 35-year-old Adrianza made the official announcement on his Instagram page, thanking the many people who contributed to his success.
“This journey has been incredibly challenging, filled with ups and downs, but every step along the way has been a blessing that I cherish immensely,” Adrianza said. “Since my childhood, I dreamed of the possibility of winning a World Series, a goal that once seemed so distant and almost unattainable. However, thanks to my effort, dedication, and the unwavering support of each one of you, that dream has become a reality. I still find it hard to believe that I have had the honor of playing more than a decade in the Major Leagues. I never imagined I would achieve so much, and it’s astonishing to reflect on this experience.”
Adrianza has been part of six different organizations over his career, and he saw big league action in the form of 624 games with the Giants, Twins, Nationals, Braves, and Angels from 2013-24. His long career saw Adrianza play roles on World Series-winning teams in San Francisco (in 2014) and Atlanta (2021), with Adrianza getting 10 pinch-hit at-bats during the Braves’ postseason run.
Hitting .237/.307/.352 in 1578 career plate appearances, Adrianza was able to consistently latch onto MLB rosters due to his ability to play almost anywhere on the diamond. He made at least 16 career starts at six different positions (all four infield positions plus the two corner outfield slots) while also making a few cameos as a center fielder and pitcher. The Outs Above Average and UZR/150 metrics gave Adrianza plus grades over his career at shortstop and third base, his two most frequent positions.
Adrianza was usually a part-timer or bench player who was only pressed into more regular duty in the event of an injury, though this happened often enough that he was a useful player to have on hand. His 114 games with Minnesota in 2018 was a career high, followed by his 109 games with the Braves in 2021. In the latter season, his ability to come off the bench and make the odd spot start made him a valuable member of an Atlanta team that had to overcome some significant injuries on its way to the championship.
We at MLB Trade Rumors congratulate Adrianza on a fine career, and we wish him all the best in the next phase of his life.

Just say you don’t know ball.
deweybelongsinthehall
He was on two WS winners and I too never heard of him. Proof that baseball is a regional sport at least for me ..
LordD99
I follow baseball intensely, including playing single-league fantasy baseball requiring in-depth roster knowledge down through the minors, and I also don’t know who this guy is.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Dcftw
He played 5 games in 2023 and 8 games in 2024. His lifetime WAR, over 12 seasons, is .8. He is the proverbial replacement paper. He still made millions of dollars. The “who” question is entirely reasonable. No need to insult a fellow fan for not knowing who this journeyman replacement paper is.
dcftw
Don’t be a white knight. It’s a stupid, tired, needless comment that gets posted under articles about anybody who isn’t a known star. The article says who he is.
Monkey’s Uncle
I’ll wager that he says the same thing when your name is brought up to him.

Same.

I barely remember this guy and I read all the box scores every day of the season. I looked him up. Played every position on the field except catcher. Made around 10 million bucks. A fine career all told. Good luck to him in his next chapter.
Keithyim
You could, like, read the article. They explain who he is.
TigersLoveCinnamon
@keith don’t feed the troll
Slappy Dappy Doo
In this case Keith is the troll though.
The Usual Suspect
@ Slappy Doo. Nope. He’s not the one disrespecting someone’s career on Christmas Day (someones who never got so much as a cup of coffee with an MLB team) and, yeah, people should at least read an article before commenting. Peace, man. It’s Christmas. Congratulations to Adrianza. I saw him play a couple of times.

And Happy Chanukah to all my Jewish friends.

Chag oreem samayach anyway.

I like guys like Adrianza who make a pretty solid career out of being the last guy off of the bench. Congrats on a fine run.

Shows ya man. Show up to the ballpark ready to play and you never know whats going to happen.

A Swiss Army knife. Might we see him on the coaching side of things somewhere? Who knows. Good luck and happiness!

Congratulations, 12 years a big leaguer and two WS!

One of those guys who was basically interchangeable with a minor league players, but for some reason stook around and made cash. He probably had a good attitude and was a good teammate

Working hard and always being ready to play>having plus plus raw skills but no drive
The Usual Suspect
@ Klewdude. He had a terrific glove but couldn’t hit much. I don’t know that that makes him interchangeable with most minor leaguers. He was a superior defender at 3 IF positions and serviceable at 1B. How many minor leaguers can say that? He was a valuable guy to have at the end of the bench.
RonDarlingShouldntBeInTheHallOfFame
He was Tyler Wade before Tyler Wade.
Congrats on a long, fruitful, career Ehire! 12 years is a HUGE accomplishment!
Reynaldo's
On this important occasion, I also think of Giants legend Joaquin Arias who also shared some time with Ehire.
Jean Matrac
Ah, Joaquin Arias, forever linked to ARod, and Robinson Cano, as the perfect example of the difficulty in analyzing young talent.
DigglinDickers
No idea who that is.
Pete'sView
You obviously focus on other sports.
ChipperChop
Well if you’d read the article instead of Digglin your Dicker you’d know who he is.
DigglinDickers
Are you offended that I have no idea who he is?
TigersLoveCinnamon
I’m more offended you have no reading comprehension
DigglinDickers
I read it and asked my self who is this guy.
DigglinDickers
Why are some of you folks so sensitive that I’ve never heard of this guys?
TigersLoveCinnamon
I’m just worried cause you obviously can’t read, cause the article explains it perfectly. I’m sorry you feel the need to hate on a 2x WS champ
DigglinDickers
Like I said, I read it and never heard of the guy. I’m sorry you’re so sensitive.
gbs42
DD,
Why do you need to continue telling us you don’t know who he is?
DigglinDickers
I’m just wondering why some people are so sensitive for me not knowing who he is.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
You should have just pretended you knew who he was. Just nod your head like everybody else.
Paleobros
DD, damn dude you’re pretty sensitive about people being sensitive about you not knowing who he is.
The Usual Suspect
@ Ignorant. Or, better yet, just not commented on something he knows nothing about. The ol’ Abraham Lincoln quote about fools is a good one to live by.
The Usual Suspect
@ DigglinDickers. Nobody is. They’re probably just irritated by you chiming in on a subject you know nothing about. Do you do that in every conversation? “Hey, everyone, you’re talking about people I don’t know! Why don’t I butt in and keep repeating that?! What fun!” Why does it have to be about you and what you don’t know? Merry Christmas.
DigglinDickers
I see you’re very sensitive also.
rememberthecoop
In case you hadn’t noticed, the whole world is sensitive these days. That’s why everything is so PC. Still, I have to admit you’re getting annoying.
DigglinDickers
Oh well if people are annoyed by me.
Jean Matrac
The fans here aren’t annoyed or offended by your comment. Just amazed that you would be so willing to expose your ignorance about a ball player with a 12 year career, who made the roster of 5 different MLB teams. There’s nothing wrong with being a casual fan, just don’t understand your need to announce that about yourself.
DigglinDickers
Sure buddy, I’m ignorant because I never never heard of a guy.
Jean Matrac
Now that is a paradox. Apparently you’re also ignorant of what ignorant means. Ignorance is defined as not knowing, pal.
DigglinDickers
What ever you say my sensitive friend.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Jean- What a ridiculous comment. There are over 1000 players on a 40 man roster. Most of the guys at the end of the bench are lucky to be replacement level (like this guy) and some are below replacement level. Why the hell would average
Fans feel compelled to recite the names and stats of replacement and below replacement players.
The only people who do that sort
Of thing are people in the industry
and those who have nothing better
To do with their lives than to demean the so called casual fan.
Jean Matrac
Your comment is absurd. The guy had a 12 year career, played for 5 teams, and was mentioned often on MLBTR.
Your strawman argument is what’s ridiculous. No one said, or implied, that anyone should know his stats. We were talking simple recognition of a name who’s been in MLB for over a decade.
He was obviously more than just a replacement level guy. They don’t have 12 year careers.
In no way did I demean the casual fan. There’s nothing wrong with being a casual. fan. What is wrong is the casual feeling the necessity to post to everyone else posting comments that they don’t have any idea who a player is.
Being ignorant of who a player is is nothing to be proud of. That’s best kept to one’s self.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Your argument is tendentious and statistically incorrect. Yes one can obviously have a 12 year career and objectively perform barely better than replacement. Most average
Fans , including those like myself who have followed teams for more than 50 years, do not know replacement level players, especially those who have not played more than a few dozen games over the last couple of years. Am I “proud” that I did not recall this player, as you repeatedly intone? No.
But I’m not ashamed to profess my ignorance either. As a condescending blowhard who is still a little wet behind the ears I don’t think you understand that sentiment.
Big Hurt
I was surprised to see just how bad his numbers were – a career OPS+ of 80 and WAR of 0.8 in over 600 games. I remember his with some clutch hits for the Twins, but clearly fewer than I thought.
Anyway – congrats, he honestly never even had good minor league numbers, so he must have done an incredible job adding value in other ways to be able to stay in the big leagues for so long.
Baseball77
Coming up through the Giants’ org, he had a reputation for a very questionable bat balanced with a very elite glove. The article mentions that his defense at short and 3rd were superlative. Would guess that is what kept him around for so long.
Jean Matrac
He had little value with the bat, but that isn’t why he had a 12 year career. His glove had big value. When he was in the Giants’ MiL system is was regarded as the best defender in the org. Keep in mind that he and Brandon Crawford were in the system together.
Big Hurt
I know defensive metrics can be troublesome sometimes, but pretty much every defensive metrics shows him as average to below average. Again – he clearly had value or he wouldn’t have stuck around this long, but it’s like finding a needle in a haystack… or trusting the dreaded ‘eye test’.
Jean Matrac
The trouble with defensive metrics is they’re far more susceptible to sample size than offensive stats. Fangraphs, the inventor of UZR, said in regard to that stat, that a minimum of 2 full seasons should be looked at before coming to conclusions. As a part-time player Adrianza might have been much better than the numbers indicate.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Why do we need to “keep in
Mind” that he was in the system with Brandon Crawford? What an absurd and condescending comment
Jean Matrac
Wow, Do I have to explain to you that Crawford was an elite glove, and that the Giants thought Adrianza was the better defender? Or are you one of those people that will nit-pick which words I used rather than the substance of it?
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Jean – I’m neither of those sorts.
My comment concerns neither your words or the substance of your so-called argument. I am commenting mainly on your pompous tone, amply displayed in your most recent comment. You’re probably just 25 years old.
Jean Matrac
Funny that you would use a pompous tone to accuse the same of others. I’m sure (at least in your mind) that your interpretation of me, by my comments, is totally accurate. But if your estimate of my age is any indication, your being off by a half-century, would suggest otherwise.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
There you go again. behaving like a
Disgruntled 25 year old. I do not pretend to know- or interpret the behaviour of randos on the internet. Go yell at another cloud, you clown puff yourself up and take pride in your deep and abiding knowledge of this .8 WAR player. You’re swell, Beaver. .
Jean Matrac
Ah yes, the real you comes out with the need to resort to insults.
Jean Matrac
Ignorance means not knowing or unaware. When someone says they’ve never heard of Adrianza they are ignorant of who he is. Pointing that out is not being insulting, it’s simply stating a fact.
When I said i was amazed by the number of people who hadn’t heard of Adrianza, the implication was of those that read MLBTR. When a guy gets mentioned a bunch of times, including 9 times in the last 2 years, on MLBTR it is amazing that so many were clueless to who he is.
Not sure why you’re so offended, and so upset, that you need to try and define who I am, and insult me over my opinion. The comments sections are where people post opinions.
Based on your responses, you seem to have a closed mind. I can see it’s made up, and I don’t need to defend, or explain myself to you. So I’m done with you. You’ve wasted enough of my time.
Red Sox Restoration Project
Is it sad I’ve never heard of this guy? When the writers here actually post worthy articles, maybe I’ll contribute. No offense but this isn’t news
El Kabong
Not to worry. There won’t be any articles written anywhere when you die.
Red Sox Restoration Project
I wasn’t asking for one when I die, so that’s good. But it’s one your conscience, not mine
Red Sox Restoration Project
“On your conscious.” Spell check is ridiculous
Red Sox Restoration Project
Honestly, it’s articles like this that cloud the real rumor articles. This is MLB Trade Rumors, not MLB Retirements and the articles I’m looking for that are about rumors have been lower on the reel because this one gets in the way.
El Kabong
It’s a baseball site. Period. If you don’t want to read a story, scroll to the next one. Bragging about your ignorance on a topic is not a good look.
Red Sox Restoration Project
I just go to the comments. Much easier. Not sure how there’s ignorance in that, but maybe it’s the fact that I don’t care. I’ll start caring when they take these terrible ads off and they actually redirect me to the one who responds to me rather than a useless thread of everyone.
It’s completely by choice, you’re right about that. But I’m not bragging. This is a very annoying site but I like the conversation despite 60% of the topics not being relevant.
El Kabong
You’re inviting the entire community to mute you. Best of luck to you.
rememberthecoop
Just pay for the ads to go away like I did. It’s a worthwhile investment.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
No one’s bragging about ignorance el Kabong. This guy was the proverbial replacement level player.
It’s not a coincidence that many fans have not heard of him.
He was not particularly good. Yet he made millions. Only in America.
Red Sox Restoration Project
Their choice whether to mute me or not. If they mute me, there’s one less rude person I deal with. Works for me, since apparently having an opinion here makes you hated. It’s why I’ve been through three accounts
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Stupid retort
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Elkabong – what a stunningly stupid retort
NashvilleJeff
@Red Sox: Sad because you’ve never heard of him? Not really. I’m a Braves fan and I know who Adrianza is. It’s newsworthy that he retired to those of us who follow baseball. Does that make you sad?
Red Sox Restoration Project
No, sad because the writers write news about the Royals being interested in Juan Soto. Aaron Judge could fart and that would be news to them
TigersLoveCinnamon
He’s got 2 rings, 12 seasons, and almost 10 mill in earnings. So just because you’re a casual, and don’t think so. Yes, it is news
MacGromit
MLB pension too, certainly more than a quick cup of coffee. Solid bench guy that fills whatever injury your team has and save the team a 26 man spot for a higher impact player. All that is certainly not nothing despite not being a household name. Congrats on a solid career.
Paleobros
RSRP,
Don’t dwell on being sad; think of the fact that you have never heard of this guy as an opportunity to learn something new, unless you are allergic to that.
The Usual Suspect
@ Red Sox Restoration Project. Why are you assuming everyone is waiting around for you to “contribute?” It is news to baseball fans for whose teams Ehire played for. It’s not all about you and your contributions.
Red Sox Restoration Project
When did I ever say others were waiting for me to contribute? Never even implied it
NashvilleJeff
@Red Sox: ….”maybe I’ll contribute” is the quote from your post at the top of this thread. More than just “implied.”
Red Sox Restoration Project
Except it’s completely out of context and you didn’t use the full line of text, nor did I even intend it that way. You must be the fake news of the liberal media, congrats.
Jean Matrac
Red Sox Restoration Project, Wrong, it is news. I was a big fan of Adrianza when he was in the Giants’ system. His was one of the most spectacular gloves I’ve ever seen. I kept hoping the bat would come alive. If he could have even approached league average with his hitting, he’d been an everyday SS. If he could have hit maybe 10% above league average he would’ve commanded a $100M deal. The fact that you don’t know he is, says more about you than him.
Red Sox Restoration Project
I’m actually very surprised that I haven’t heard of him to be honest. I will say, you have all informed me well. I still think articles like these are less important, however.
Jean Matrac
I won’t argue that this is news that’s unimportant to many. But I think still worthwhile to those who were familiar with him. There are many articles on MLBTR that I just skip over since they aren’t important to me. But I don’t post that in the comments.
Old York
439th best SS in the history of the game. That’s pretty good. He won’t be elected to the HOF but I’ll vote for him to be elected.

2 rings and don’t forget the pension.

World Series ring-mates with Pablo Sandoval on the 2014 Giants and 2021 Braves. Nice career.

So I guess this means that the Braves won’t bring him back. He’d fit in with the rest of the moves they’ve made so far.

I still have no idea how this guy had such a long career. Neifi Perez with a better glove
Texas Outlaw
Perez was a far better hitter with a much more profound career.
TigersLoveCinnamon
Ehire’s career ops+ is better than neifi’s. Nothing about neifi’s career was profound. Try again
Texas Outlaw
I’m looking at counting stats in comparing their careers.
TigersLoveCinnamon
Lmao neifi played in coors a whole lot, you’re either a child or clueless
Texas Outlaw
A true gentleman always falls to name calling when discussing something. Congrats.
100% I agree his numbers were a product of Coors but it doesn’t change the fact those numbers are greater. But all good. Checkmate, congrats on your internet victory and Merry Christmas.

In 2021 game 6 Braves vs dodgers he had the big pinch hit double against Walker Buehler that lead to the 3 run home run from Eddie Rosario. Huge moment(s) in the post season.
He was a great role player

I remember him and Belt in the fun 2010 season in San Jose in which the Giants were league champions. Both were glove ready for the Majors.
Ehire was ahead of Belt in the autograph signing. What a great sig!
It seems the Twins got Giants players who then had their best years with Minnesota. I go back to Dan Gladden even.

Jean Matrac
I guess you don’t scan MLBTR every day like a lot of us. A quick search revealed he’s been mentioned many times (didn’t bother to count) in posts since 2016. And, over the last 2 years, he was mentioned in 9 articles, with his name in the headline 4 of those 9 times.
azcrook
Always was reliable when called upon
bcjd
He’s basically Alex Cora with half as many at bats. Slash lines near nearly identical:
Entire – .237/.307/.352 OPS .658
Cora — .234/.310/.338 OPS .648
The big difference is quantity of play, not quality:
Ehire – 624 G, 1578 PA
Cora —1273 G, 3825 PA
bcjd
Minor correction:
Cora’s BA is .243 not .234

There are guys like this. In reality he is a very talented athlete. Not a star or an every day player. Filled a role. Hit just enough to earn his roster spot. Even managed to hang around 3 years to many.
Jean Matrac
It amazes me that so many people had never heard of Adrianza. I guess that explains the many clueless posts that plague MLBTR’s comments.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Jean- there is zero correlation between MLBTR user’s awareness of this guy’s career and the stupidity of comments on this site. For example, you apparently have deep inside knowledge of this peripheral replacement players career and that has not deterred you from waxing ignorant and bombastically stupid
Jean Matrac
You’re being obtuse. Lack of knowledge has a direct correlation to the numerous posts that appear to be written without sufficient information.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Jean – you sure have lots of confidence in your ability to discern the motives of rando posters on MLBTR. You are either a troll, disingenuous or remarkably naive.
Jean Matrac
Please tell me when I said anything about anyone else’s motives. Once again you need the strawman to knock down.
And it’s funny how you accuse me of that without proof, yet seem to know for sure that I’m “a troll, disingenuous or remarkably naive”.
I’m willing to admit I know nothing about you. Based on what you’ve written, maybe you should admit you know nothing about me.
AgeeHarrelsonJones
Jean – I know you are someone who wrote “It amazes me that so many people had never heard of Adrianza.” so you appear to be someone who publicly professes amazement. You ave also used the word “ignorance” to refer to your fellow MLBTR readers. So, no, I’m not going to profess I know nothing about you. You are indeed a troll, disingenuous, remarkably naive, and/or downright mean-spirited..You may also be an amazing husband or wealthy retiree or transgender but I cannot discern that from your posts on this site. Given your age you may want to see a neurologist or psychiatrist..
UGA_Steve
No current articles for the Braves, so I am going to throw it out here …
Bregman takes a discount to sign with Braves and play the position he wanted to from the get go in the majors … SS.
I readily admit that I have thought all along the Braves are trying to reset their CBT counter to 0 rather than go to 3, but man, Bregman flat out tore it up the final 75% of the year. He’s probably the second toughest out at the plate out of the whole FA pool behind Soto, and he still has decent range and is rock solid defensively on everything he can get to.
I know it’s a stretch, but he might be one of the few pieces that I think AA would be willing to sign, as it looks like they will save money on pitching and wait until the deadline to add as needed. I think it would rock the baseball world. He would lengthen the lineup, add some insurance as I think he can play 2B or 1B if needed as well (and he is the kind of guy that would gladly do it).
Come on AA, shake it up baby.
NashvilleJeff
@UGA Steve: I thought I was alone when I had the same thought about Bregman being able to play SS. I have more confidence in that than I do in AA’s willingness to give Bregman the amount and years he’s probably seeking. Would it be unrealistic to think that the Braves could sign Bregman to play 3B and move Riley to left field? Still like the idea of Bregman on a 5 year deal to play SS and possibly replace Ozzie at 2B if the Braves don’t re-sign him after his options are gone. Guess I just flat out like the idea of Bregman in a Braves uni.
