The Yankees announced that outfielder Duke Ellis went unclaimed on waivers. He neither has the requisite service time nor the previous outright necessary to become a minor league free agent.
Ellis, a Texas product, is a speedster who bounced around as a depth option. He played with the White Sox and Yankees this season and also spent time in the Seattle and Mets systems. Ellis got into 11 regular seasons games, mostly as a pinch runner. He collected his first big league hit in five at-bats. The Yankees gave him one more pinch-running appearance in October.
The 26-year-old will remain with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and should be in camp next spring as a non-roster invitee. Ellis has a middling .237/.323/.337 batting line in his minor league career, but his speed and ability to play all three outfield spots give him a chance to crack the roster as a fifth outfielder.

Good thing Cleveland is now the Guardians,
Yankees wouldn’t stand a chance against them
Without
THE DUKE !!
Chances against the Braves looking shaky also.

Has he tried jazz?

He took the D train to Yankee Stadium…wait, that’s not it

Not the Duke!!!!!!!! I’d keep him around just because of his name.

As a fan of the UNC Tarheels, I’d get rid of him just for his name.

The Yankees doubling down on their current roster by extending Cole and paying Soto $500M+ would be crazy since that puts them nowhere near where the best NL teams are.
And, I do mean “teams”, because the Yankees could not beat any of the NL’s top 5 or 6 teams(Mets, Brewers, Phillies, Padres, Braves) in a 7 game series and they already proved they’re nowhere near the Dodger’s level of play.

As a self-proclaimed Yankees hater, why would you assume that the Yankees would be done shopping after bothering to retain Cole and re-sign Soto? They’ve got holes to fill at 1B, 2B, LF, and the bullpen.

Do you realize Yankees gave the Dodgers not 1 but 2 games that would have been wins if their brain dead manager make the right moves. As bad as the Yankees played they should have been up 3-2 heading to LA for game 6. Dont fool yourself as they won 94 games with a closer who blew 14 saves plus a lineup with dead wood from 6-9. Rest assured they will have a balanced lineup better than when Soto was on the team.

“Not 1 but 2 games”…Had the Dodgers not basically conceded game 4(with a 3-0 lead) before it started, the Yankees would have been swept. Beyond that, we can talk about “what ifs” and “would have beens” until the cows come home.
And, the Yankees’ defense, swing & miss and baserunning is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s available to any team that can take advantage of it.

“Cole just agreed”…Good job breaking news. And Cashman finally showed some cajones by not bowing down to the agent.

I mentioned it before mlbtr. I’m guessing you learned it from me so I did break the news 🙂

I TOTALLY got it from you. Even after watching MLB for about 53+ yrs, I still learn new things here on MLBTR almost every day. Good job.

Well, back to tickling the ivories with one eye on his phone. Not to worry – White Sox should be contacting you within a day or two.

Even going back to high school, Ps prac, prac, n prac covering 1st on any ball hit to there left towards 1stbaseman, drilled into your head so it becomes natural. And in HS u’d be running before n after practice for that mental (controllable) error. Lucky if whole team wasn’t running for his costly lapse. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals!
