With all four Division Series tied at two, here are three things we’ll be keeping an eye on around the baseball world throughout the day today:
1. NLDS Game 3 today:
Both sets of NLDS matchups will have their third games today. The Phillies and Mets are set to suit up at Citi Field in New York at 5:08pm local time. The Dodgers and Padres will take the field at Petco Park in San Diego at 6:08pm local time. In Queens, lefty Sean Manaea (3.47 ERA) will take the mound after a strong rebound campaign opposite right-hander Aaron Nola (3.57 ERA). The Dodgers will send former ace Walker Buehler (5.38 ERA in 16 starts) to the mound amid a season where he’s struggled to return to form after nearly two calendar years on the shelf following his second career Tommy John surgery. The Padres will counter with offseason addition Michael King (2.95 ERA), who has excelled in his first year with the club.
2. MLB investigating dispute between Machado, Roberts:
Tonight’s NLDS game between the Dodgers and Padres comes with an additional layer of intrigue as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic noted that the Dodgers have asked the league to review an alleged incident between club manager Dave Roberts and third baseman Manny Machado, wherein Roberts believes Machado threw a baseball at him between innings during Game 2 of the series on Sunday. Per Roberts, the ball ultimately didn’t come close to hitting him thanks to netting around the dugout but was thrown with “intent behind it.”
Machado, meanwhile, told Rosenthal that his throw was no different from the way he’d throw a ball toward any dugout, but not before questioning whether Game 2 starter Jack Flaherty intentionally threw at Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. While it’s unclear if anything more will come of the situation following the league’s review of footage, the discourse following an already tense Game 2 that saw fans throw trash at Tatis and Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar seems likely to leave tensions high entering a pivotal Game 3 of a series currently tied at one game apiece.
3. MLBTR Chat today:
With the postseason now in full swing, 22 of MLB’s 30 teams have focused their attention on the coming winter while the rest of us have our eyes glued on playoff baseball. If you’re wondering about how the remaining contenders stack up with all four LDS tied 1 to 1 or how your club could approach the coming offseason, MLBTR’s Steve Adams is holding a live chat with readers at 3pm CT today. You can click here to ask a question in advance, join in live once the chat begins, or read the transcript once the chat is complete.

Don’t know where to put this as there’s no article on it yet, but all-time great Luis Tiant passed away at the age of 83.
He is remembered mostly for his years with the Red Sox, Indians and Yankees.
RIP El Tiante, thoughts and prayers to his loved ones.
avenger65
Mays, Rose, Tiant. What a lousy year for baseball legends.
Fever Pitch Guy
avenger – Don’t forget Cubbage, Bean, Brumley, Burroughs, Cepeda, Gardner, Grote, Gullett, Harrelson, Herzog, Holtzman, Jeter, Kranepool, McCarty, Ortiz, Ott, Virgil, Zachry, Williams and Washington to name a few.
Bucsfan4ever
They don’t make them like those guys anymore
scarfish
Burroughs was a tragic story.

Tiant was a great one
Fever Pitch Guy
Bucs – Every New England kid in the 1970’s imitated Tiant’s windup.

You must be a Padres fan
BaseballisLife
I’m not a Padres fan, am a fan of a team in the other side of the continent, and I agree with him. It is the whiniest thing I have ever seen from a major league manager.
Bucsfan4ever
Not all of the Dodgers are classless like their manager
proton
Machado is the cry baby. You remember him when he came into the league? What a punk.
Dennis Boyd
He has matured. He is now a father. That helps A LOT. I recommend this for every man. Be a father and be an attentive, involved father. Even ‘punks’ like Machado improve greatly.
Longtimecoming
Proton – pretty sure you are glad no one calls you what you were at 21 – well, if you are 21.
It’s called maturity and while I agree with what he was, you need to realize he hasn’t shown that character for the last few years in SD.
Simm
This reeks of desperation from Dave Roberts.
YankeesBleacherCreature
He brings the drama for sure and trying to get under Machado’s skin.
letitbelowenstein
Yeah. Because sweet Manny Machado is such an angel.
RunDMC
You mean starting Walker Buehler in a pivotal G3? Absolute desperation. Yeesh.
aragon
Especially aftee he was robbed of an expensive watch at a horse racing.
JoeBrady
Granted, I am skeptical of everything, but do people still wear watches, and a $100k watch to the racetrack? And don’t celebrities get private booths for just this reason?
aragon
It was reported that while leaving he and his wife were surrounded by many people and someone unclipped watch band and took the watch.
Dennis Boyd
Unknowingly robbed or was it collateral to Ohtani’s bookie?
BaseballisLife
More likely he was drunk and left the watch somewhere and didn’t want to tell his wife.
CardsFan57
Watches are now just flashy jewelry. Yes, wearing expensive jewelry in uncontrolled areas is very risky business.
El Niño
Desperation and corruption. This is dodger PR taking the story away from the disgusting behavior of their fans and Ken rosenthal amplified it.
PhilliesBob1980
All the series are tied at 1-1 after two games. Not tied at 2-2.
herecomethephillies2018
Not a fan of game times all being listed as local times either. Nick’s my favorite MLBTR writer but this was a weirdly written article, must need another cup of coffee.
Fever Pitch Guy
here – Nick is a rookie, mistakes are to be expected. People need to cut him some slack.
BaseballisLife
No. If you are being paid for your writing, and he is, and you are asking people to pay to read his writing, and they are, then Nick needs to do much, much better. None of his articles would pass muster even at a small town newspaper.
Fever Pitch Guy
Life – We don’t know he’s getting paid, maybe he’s an intern?
Either way most readers are getting the articles free, so it’s kinda silly to complain about errors and omissions.
herecomethephillies2018
Nick has worked for MLBTR for at least 14 years, TD did a write up about him even in 2010. What’s the service time cutoff for rookie eligibility?
I also said he’s my favorite writer on the team, how is that not cutting someone slack?
Fever Pitch Guy
here – You’re caught in a bold-faced lie. Tim said Nick was in High School in October 2016, that would make him no more than 25 years old.
So you’re saying he’s been working here since he was 11?
I can’t stand liars.
And BTW I said PEOPLE should cut him some slack, I did not say YOU.
NYCityRiddler
Yea! It’s like people complaining about smog, the air is still free. What a bunch of maroons! Ahahaha!
herecomethephillies2018
The article wasn’t written 14 years ago? I see it was edited to add info about other writers, since when does a mistake make someone a liar? You sound like a real treat to be married to.
Point still stands that the man has been working there for 3.5 years, not 14. That’s still a rookie in your eyes? Should I now call you a liar and say how much I hate liars?
Also, no one was giving him slack then lol. You’re literally telling the no one complaining to give him slack. Maybe you should give other commenters slack, especially when you’re calling people who’ve been in a job for nearly half a decade as still cutting their teeth.
Fever Pitch Guy
here – Age shouldn’t matter. I won’t research it, but if I had to guess his articles began around a year ago. I think he replaced the New Zealand guy. Either way, I’m defending the guy because so many people are pointing out his mistakes. I did it in a positive (he will get better with time) and truthful way though, rather than claiming he has been writing here for 14 years.
Giving him slack? Isn’t that the same as cutting him slack? LOL! Either way, Bob was doing it here, and plenty of other people with other articles.
I’m ready to move on here, I’ve defended him and that’s the important thing. And yeah I’m my wife’s dessert every day ;O)
BaseballisLife
We do know he is getting paid. They put up ads from time to time looking for writers and it always talks about getting paid.
I don’t pay BECAUSE of the errors. He is costing Tim at the very least my money. I’m quite sure I’m not the only one.
hiflew
Let me preface by stating that I do not like Manny Machado at all. However, if he was trying to hit someone with a baseball, that person would be hit. Roberts is really coming across badly in this scenario.
wreckage
Don’t like Roberts, nor Manny, but no one is 100% accurate 100% of the time. Clemens didn’t hit Piazza with the broken bat. And Ryan didn’t hit Ventura clean with everyone of his shots.
Also haven’t seen the clip where this supposedly happened. Not sure why someone of Manny’s presence would throw at Davy’s at this time of year.
hiflew
Clemens didn’t throw bats for a living and Ryan didn’t throw punches for a living. Machado is one the best in the world at throwing a baseball though. He might not be 100% accurate, but he would be better than “it ultimately didn’t come close thanks to netting.”
YankeesBleacherCreature
@wreckage It’s also an auto game ejection and possible immediate suspension even in the playoffs. Why didn’t any of the umps catch it and phone it in to MLB HQ? You don’t have to like Machado but he’s not stupid and is a vet.
I Believe We Can Win
Throwing a warm up ball he’s using prior to ohtani coming to the plate into the dodgers dugout that bounces into the dugout is an auto game suspension? Since when lmao.
Seriously. Manny throwing a warm up ball softly into the dodgers dugout cause he plays 3B which is closest to the dodgers dugout to get ready to take the field warrants a suspension? No. No it doesn’t.
tiktok.com/t/ZTFPQxgHB/
YankeesBleacherCreature
If there was intent.
For Love of the Game
I wouldn’t call it “softly,” but Roberts was in no way endangered. Manny may have been trying to send a message. They’re both combatants and trying to get under their opponent’s skin. Best for us to just ignore both of them and their antics.
I Believe We Can Win
What intent? Lmao
Yu Darvish was warming up. Ball hit the ground. Catcher threw ball to 2nd then to manny. Manny threw the ball into the closest dugout cause Yu got a new ball from the ump.
Dave didn’t even notice the ball bouncing into the dugout
The whole thing is stuoid.
I Believe We Can Win
If a ball double bounces into a dugout it’s a soft throw and there’s 0 intent behind it esp since it was a ball that needed and was replaced during warm ups
A hard throw with intent is something 80 mph+ where you’re chucking it at someone with the intent of hitting them or scaring them. Kind of like when pitchers hit batters or throw behind batters.
JoeBrady
This feels like one of those sketchy moves that managers think will inspire the team. Most hitters have probably taken a 98 mph FB off of one of the body parts. So, meh.
Old York
@hiflew
Someone didn’t notice that errant throw in GM1 where he airmailed the throw way over the head of the 1B man. And that was in a routine play, not something where he was throwing from shallow LF or anything.
BaseballisLife
The ball rolled directly through the opening in the netting where the bat boy is supposed to be standing. Roberts was 5-6 feet from that opening and behind the netting. Roberts was not even paying attention because players throw in to the nearest dugout a ball that is being taken out of play at least once per inning. Often more than once per half inning.
Butter Biscuits
The players and other coaches in the dugout did see what Manny did and there was intent.
hiflew
I didn’t notice it because I have ZERO interest in watching a game between the Padres and Dodgers unless they figure out a way to have both teams lose the game.
Mojo37
I don’t about the rest of you but I have been hanging around here all day in the hope that I would find out what hiflew thinks of the Padres-Dodgers.
Brew’88
@hiflew. I have it figured out for you. Get your favorite teams to win better so the Dodgers and Padres are out of the playoffs,
Old York
@Brew’88
That would be nice. Both teams are triple-A teams anyway. Just shows how bad the NL West is.
B-rocker
From the Why Not Use Facts? Department:
Which of the 6 MLB divisions won the most regular season games in 2024?
Take your time. I will wait…
Old York
@B-rocker
I guess when you’re playing trash teams like the Rockies & Giants 13 times each, those are extra wins.
B-rocker
Spin it any way that makes your day
hiflew
Well that sounds about the normal amount of daily productivity for a Dodgers fan. Now that you know, maybe you can go do something else.
hiflew
@Old York
It doesn’t matter how good or bad an in division game is, those games will always only add one win to the total. NL West teams will always go 104-104 against each other no matter how good they are. The determination of total wins comes from how they do against teams OUTSIDE the division.
B-rocker
Oh yeah I forgot your posts and insights matter more. Silly me.
Old York
@hiflew
Evaluating a team based on the wins has proven to be pretty irrelevant, given that we’ve given trophies to teams last year that were not even close to 100+ wins.
fox471 Dave
Yeah the Dodgers just won 98 games and the Padres won what, 93 games? You probably missed this but they weren’t just playing each other.
B-rocker
Well now you have it both ways troll. Which is it? “Extra wins”or “wins are irrelevant “? Well done.
Mojo37
lol. now wins are irrelevant. wow York.
Old York
@B-rocker
You brought up wins to make some ridiculous claim that the NL West is so great. Wins are irrelevant.
B-rocker
Hahaha
you would be the expert in “ridiculous claims” labeling the Friars and Dodgers as “triple A teams.” You’re a joke.
Mojo37
happily tonight’s games begin soon since the level of discourse here has devolved as the day wears on. enjoy the games, those of you who don’t have zero interest.
Longtimecoming
York – your standard is as outdated as you are my old friend. Everybody plays everybody these days.
Longtimecoming
Wreckage – look up the clip – it was a flick of the wrist multiple bouncer that skips into the dugout for the ball boy to get.
Then get back to us.
I Believe We Can Win
Dave Roberts is a clown.
We have video of manny throwing the ball into the dodgers dugout and in no way shape or form would the ball have hit anyone hard. It literally bounces softly into the dugout
tiktok.com/t/ZTFPQxgHB/
JoeBrady
If that clip was the actual throw, the MLB should fine Roberts for unnecessary whineyness. Manny literally threw the ball on the ground right in front of him.
I’m rooting for the LAD, but what a nothing-burger this is.
Mojo37
I usually back Doc but this is a lame complaint. Weak, Doc, very weak.
straightuphonestguy
The funny thing is he is right. Machado was egging on him and the Dodgers dugout with some extra oomph on the dugout throw. I don’t know why you don’t go out and get in the ump’s face when it happens instead of waiting until the next day to state your case. I think the moment passed, and Roberts should’ve downplayed it when talking to the media on Monday.
Mojo37
maybe “he is right” but in the larger scheme of things the Machado ball toss is not worth blowing it up to an MLB review.
Settle the beef, all the beefs on the field, It’s time to put up or shut up. Go Blue.
straightuphonestguy
Should be a great game. I don’t mind chippy between players/clubhouse staff, just hoping no fans feel the need to retaliate for perceived slights. Good luck to LA!
BaseballisLife
The ball rolled into the dugout. We have all seen Machado throw on the target missiles across the diamond to the 1B. There was no extra oomph on that throw. If he wanted to egg on Roberts that ball would have hit the netting directly in front of Roberts. Instead it went exactly how and where you expected it to go. On the ground and to the opening into the dugout between the protective screen.
straightuphonestguy
I thought the same thing at first, but the ball clearly hits the dugout padding/netting then bounces on the ground. IMO it’s all gamesmanship — Teo and Flaherty jawed at Machado who took exception to Flaherty pitching Tatis inside and hitting him. Frankly I love all of it, it’s the good kind of postseason chippiness. I’m just stunned Roberts wanted to keep it going in the media presser a day later.
MR. Q
If you watched the video where Machado throw a ball to Dodgers dugout, prior to that it was used as warm up ball by Darvish.
Higgy tossed the ball to 2nd base but it hit the ground, and need to be replaced before the inning started. Machado scoops the ball and throw it to the bat boy at Dodgers dugout but then Dave is angry as he thought it was aimed at him. The ball even bounces 2 times before it reach the dugout as it was only softly thrown.
3 finger split
I’ve seen Machado toss a ball towards the third base dugout on more than one occasion and it’s never been with malice…Dave Roberts is begging.
Why would you poke a bear?
Tatis is as hot as the sun, so you hit him and now you whine about Machado?
Great job Dave…Losers Complain and Winners just keep finding ways to Succeed
MysteryWhiteBoy13
Literally see that same throw toward the dugout ten times a game
jdgoat
Lol. If the video that is circulating where Machado BOUNCES the ball into the Dodgers dugout and then Roberts yells at him is the one that he’s upset about, I hope the league issues a fine to Roberts for wasting their time.
For Love of the Game
Nah, just give him a towel to cry into. It’s just postseason theatrics.
JoeBrady
LOL! If I were Manfred, my response would be “Wait, you were serious about that?”.
whyhayzee
“Game 2 that saw fans throw trash at Tatis and Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar”
Those fans need to be identified and never allowed into a game again. Ever. That’s BS.
Brew88
It’s not BS to the few LAD fans that become annoyed by players who play with joy for the game and believe they can beat the Dodgers. I mean, how dare they!
Bucsfan4ever

There either.
Brew88
Roberts was also quoted as saying the Padres have enviable energy that his team lacks, and that they drew emotional energy from Tatis being plinked by Flaherty. Incredibly, Roberts then said that his Dodgers would not try to manufacture drama, per se, but needed to find an incident to draw energy from.
I guess so
What is especially bothersome, stealing Roberts’ term, is that this sort of nonsense only stirs potential for further violence with some fans in LA. Roberts might want to focus on the game instead.
Gwynning
A.k.a. “hot garbage”

I hope this doesn’t escalate in this week’s games. Padres FO sent email/ public address to Padre fans to stay cool, practice code of conduct. It’s just a game, but these are strange times.

BlueSkies_LA
I believe you are suggesting that it’s unusual for managers to get themselves into arguments with umpires or get themselves thrown out of games or otherwise jawbone in order to fire up their players. Because that never happens?
Brew88
Happens. Though the manager doesn’t typically openly broadcast the intent to manufacture a drama though through media interviews. I’m guessing some of the more intelligent players might not be as whipped into a frenzy by such tactic. But some violent fans might.
BlueSkies_LA
Not a lot of what happened on Sunday can be called typical and would not call it an effort to whip them up into a frenzy. Getting them to play like it really matters would be enough.
Brew’88
I get this is a tactic, we went through it in 2022 against the Mets with Musgrove’s sweaty ears.
And I think LADs look like they care and are playing hard. That steal by injuried Freddie was crazy bold. Hopefully Roberts can get them to play like it matters without making up drama, right after saying he needs to make up some drama – it’s not a great look. My hope is it plays out on the field, not through the national media.
3 finger split
I get that Freddy Freeman wants to win and I think he is a gamer and class act BUT if Dave Roberts gave him the steal sign knowing he has a bad ankle then that’s not crazy bold…that’s just CRAZY STUPID. Here is the problem that creates…Freeman can’t DH because Othani is the DH so you blow up Freemans ankle and now he either plays on one leg or he sits…. maybe pinch hit a la Kirk Gibson.
Brew’88
When he stole 2nd I just thought that his high ankle sprain wasn’t so bad after all but seeing him taken out of the game Sunday (when the game was still close) revealed otherwise.
BlueSkies_LA
Sure, but my point is I’m pretty sure Dave Roberts doesn’t give a hoot what fans or the media think of his comments. They are directed at his players. Keeping in mind this all started with Profar’s little league taunting of the fans. The only difference is, a player pulling that stunt in Little League would be benched immediately. None of this is a good look for baseball and I suspect it is already generating some discussion behind the scenes.
Brew’88
Hey Blue, I don’t agree with your take this time. Roberts whining about Machado’s toss to the ball boy was an emotion that started when Profar caught Mookie’s HR? Was the problem that Profar enjoyed the moment? How many little league games have you been to with a crowd of people in LF stands? Maybe “it” started when Tatis hit a 118 mph ball that no OF could catch rubbing the fans the wrong way. I don’t know. Maybe playing hard and trying to win is a sin when playing against the Dodgers?
I honestly didn’t see taunting by Profar. I saw joy, then I saw him running from projectiles. And I see no connection to why Roberts is now making up nonsense in attempt to change the narrative.
straightuphonestguy
What was his little league taunting of fans? Being excited for making his *first ever* home run robbery in a playoff game that preserved the narrowest lead? Giving a ball to the guy he made the catch in front of (and taking it in stride when the dude chucked it because that fan knew how to banter)? None of that explains anything about Tatis getting bottles and cans thrown at him in RF or the bullpen who literally had nothing to do with what was going on in the field of play dodging projectiles.
BlueSkies_LA
Clearly, his enjoyment of that moment was directed at the fans in those seats. He didn’t even reveal that he’d caught the ball until he’d milked it and Mookie had completely rounded the bases. It doesn’t take more than a handful of the 52,000 fans in the stands to become annoyed by this kind of showboating and also inebriated enough to act out and create a bad situation.
I remember as a kid going to Mets games at Shea when Pete Rose played LF for the Reds. The bleacher bums taunted Rose relentlessly and threw beer cups at him, and he’d give them what they wanted by jawing back at them. Another bad look for baseball all around. Never thought I’d see anything like it again.
And again, Roberts isn’t directing his comments at the fans, so he isn’t trying to create a “narrative.”
straightuphonestguy
I do not care in the slightest for fans who can’t process their liquor or emotions and let it spill out onto the field. I’m sure everyone in this thread has born witness to hundreds of backbreaking moments as baseball fans and I would guess the majority never succumb to throwing items. Make it a dry section, station security in every row, start issuing lifetime bans.. there are much more elegant solutions than a ballplayer can’t celebrate a great play too hard because the peanut gallery is in their feelings.
Brew’88
These are young men playing a game. How do you feel about the Dodger dance at 2b after a double? I’m fine with it. I’m even fine with Kelly making faces at Correa. Look, if this is the first time since Pete Rose that you’ve seen a player celebrate a great catch and engage the fans playfully (probably receiving some f bombs from the fans), then that’s curious. I’ve seen that thousands of times (not just Padres games) and most fans and managers of opposing teams don’t feel entitled to take it issue with it to the point near riot.
Regardless, I disagree that it started the issue that Roberts is bringing forward with Manny’s toss to the ball boy. That narrative brought to the media and MLB commissioner Monday and today is cute (Little League-ish even), but not related.
BlueSkies_LA
I am talking entirely about taunting fans. This is a definite no-no, as I’m sure every player is told by their team and probably also by the commissioner’s office. And it wasn’t as if Profar’s first inning antics was the only such incident in the game. In fact, it was one of at least three. The reason why a professional ballplayer should never deliberately incite fans is really too obvious to explain.
Gwynning
“Let the kids play” Blue. Fans root, cheer and watch. Fans don’t get the privilege to interact with the field.
BlueSkies_LA
You could try to respond to something I actually said. I mean, try at least.
Longtimecoming
Brew – even add to it that very likely, some fans shared a few comments 10 minutes prior to that robbery when JP trotted out to LF to warm up.
That fan OFer banter tends to start first thing.
Longtimecoming
Blue – I was a Big Red machine fan back then but pretty young and without internet but my memory is they Rose to 3b because of batteries or pennies being thrown at him.
Brew’88
I did try (sigh)
Brew’88
Well, if what Profar had to say to Marty C. end of game can stand up to what the opinions of some are, since Profar was there and all, it’s that when he dove into the stands to catch the thing he was hit with threating words from fans. But players are used to that and don’t typically respond. I actually thought Profar’s backward bunny hop while hiding the ball for a few seconds was a playful thing one would expect from a young man playing a kids game, and not inciteful or disrespectful. But that’s just me.
Regardless, anyone using Profar’s actions as justifying violence, or making up reasons to suspend players, doesn’t have the game at best interest
Brew’88
I can count 6 times and 2280 ft that the Padres incited Dodger fans on the other side of the outfield wall
BlueSkies_LA
I’m surprised by how completely you are mischaracterizing what I am saying. Every single report of this incident that I have read to date acknowledges that Profar taunted the fans. All used that exact word, in fact. So it might actually be true. It should not matter if one iota if a fan made allegations about his parentage, a professional ballplayer should not engage the fans. The players are the professionals, not the fans.
The blindingly obvious reality of a playoff game is you are dealing with 52,000 excited spectators, many of them drinking, so it takes only 0.001% of them behaving badly to create an incident. This has nothing to do with “justifying violence” and I am a honesty shocked that you would even suggest such a thing. No matter what you may imagine is in the game’s best interests, I am quite certain players inciting fans is not one of them according to MLB.
Further, I don’t know where you get suspensions, let alone making up a reason for one, since I never suggested such a thing.
BlueSkies_LA
Yeah I remember the battery throwing incident. Not sure if that happened more than one time. One of the reasons Rose got so much guff from fans is he gave them what they wanted by barking back.
Brew’88
Honestely, I was trying to address your believe that Profar’s fence event somehow incited Roberts to play the Machado case. I think they are unrelated. By the way MLB just ruled the Manny toss a non-issue.
I’m sorry you feel shocked by my not caring too interpret “taunt” as a thing. I really don’t care that much if fans think Profar taunted or not. Home fans while losing a big game can blow things out of proportion. If you know Profar aside from some incorrect narratives, you’d know he’s a quiet unassuming individual.
Regardless, I’m more interested in the game than devolving into semantics
Brew88
You said above that “it all started with Profar taunting the crowd” By saying that, you’re implying that the.violence that was “it” that ensued, was the result of Profar’s catch and hop hop. I’m shocked you would imply that because I have found you to be one of the more sensible here at mlbtr. Most LAD fans in know were embarrassed by what happened. Definitions of taunting may vary but it happens in sports daily. What I saw Sunday night from LAD was a team and fanbase that couldn’t losing with grace

What I like about baseball is all the great actors at play in the presentation. Even though I understand it’s similar to WWE, it’s still fun to watch the drama play out. This should make for a good Game 3 performance.
Old York
MLBTR needs to get an article up for Luis Tiant. Decent FIP of 3.47 in his career.
Rest in peace.

BaseballisLife
I have seen the video. The ball was thrown on the ground and went through the opening into the dugout 4 or 5 feet from where Roberts was standing. You see that same throw from players on both teams multiple times per game. That might just be the whiniest thing I have ever seen from a MLB manager.
I guess Roberts didn’t like his team getting their team kicked in in historic fashion at their house. Tough beans. Maybe play better next time instead of whining about a ball thrown out of play properly.

Let’s just wait until LAPD CSI forensics team finishes generating their official report after examining Machado’s exit velocity, trajectory, and field position.

Ice-T took one look at the video and said “Sheeeeeeeeet…”

If look more closely at the video, there was a second ball thrown towards Roberts from the grassy knoll.
Drasco0366
Roberts barely escaped with his life! I just hope he can manage effectively this evening and he doesn’t have any long term lasting effects from such a traumatic experience.
I also hope all the fans are okay after seeing such violence in the baseball field.
Gwynning
“Back and to the left…”
Drasco0366
This is no laughing matter. Roberts has been traumatized and so have I. I need to call my mental health expert.
Gwynning
You have one?!?! Jk Drasco, cheers bub
Drasco0366
Prayers for Roberts

It was Roger McDowell all along!

He must’ve caught a glimpse of us as we poured that beer on his head

“As I turned
around, I saw Roger McDowell behind the bushes over by that gravely road…”
Gwynning
“It was McDowell.”

I get that Roberts is just trying to fire his team up, but never in my life seen a more ridiculous complaint. REALLY, bad looks for the Dodgers, their fans, and their management this series..
BlueSkies_LA
You might want to consider whether he cares about what you or any other fans think.
Jerry Hairston Jr's Toupee
Roberts’ bootyhole is puckering up cuz he’s watching San Diego steal the Dodgers’ thunder again….
3 finger split
Here is the difference between the Padres and Dodgers…The Dodgers just let their fans do it and the Padres sent out an email to their fans that basically said. Bring the Noise and Energy but Stay Classy San Diego.
Petco is going to be rocking tonight, and I’ll be there.
Screw Screw Dodger Blue
Go Padres

Maybe if Macado had not ruined Pedroia’s career, purposely spiked a 1st baseman for no reason or thrown his bat at an opposing player this would be a non-story.
Drasco0366
The whole Pedroia thing was completely over blown and wouldn’t have happened if Bogaerts made a competent throw. Manny didn’t alter his course in an attempt to break up a double play and players regularly slide over and through the bag. No runner is going to risk an injury jamming his leg into the base. The fact it hit DP was just bad luck.
I don’t even know if “spiking” Aguilar was that big of deal either. It seems way more risky to me for Machado than Aguilar and bumping a guys calf with your shin isn’t going to cause an injury.
Drasco0366
For the record, I’m not a Machado fan at all even though I wanted the Cubs to sign him. He’s always appeared to be a selfish player (but I don’t know him personally or professionally so I can say that for a fact). I can say, from reports, that is very well respected in the MLB
Mickey Solis
You Dodgers scumbags don’t deserve another home game & I pray to whoever is up there you don’t win because I know how much you will enjoy it especially that arrogant spoonfed pr*ck Dave Roberts whose job anyone could do with that roster he’s been gifted. Scummiest fans and city on earth. Please God let San Diego finish this series at home. America is on your side, Padres. #BeatLA
Mojo37
always taking the high road Mickey. at least you are a dependable a-hole.
OPACY
And there you have it……the reason the LA Dodgers didn’t even consider making Manny a long term offer when they had him after the O’s traded him. Bad teammate and clubhouse guy!
Brew’88
There what is had? Big ticket FAs rarely are extended before becoming FAs (ex. Trae Turner, Corey Seager). I bought into the false narrative that Manny was hot-headed many years ago and didn’t like his politics, but as a Padres season ticket holder, during Manny’s tenure with SD he’s been exemplary team leader on and off the field.
Drasco0366
Maybe Machado has matured but I always hear how respected he is throughout the game.
Harper had/has the same reputation for a lot of fans but I’ve met and interacted with Harper quite a bit in the past and he’s always green great. As a disclaimer, I have Asperger’s and I have always gotten along best with people who have personality “quirks”
fox471 Dave
Of course, now that Machado is a Padre he is a model of rectitude. Please!

Escalating nonsense, Friendly rivalries are one thing but game two was beyond the pale, Who wants to watch MLB devolve into the WWE? Buck up. Earn the $$ you’re getting. Entertain us with your skill, not your egos.
sdpadsfan11
Dave Roberts is not the right manager for the Dodgers. They need a manager with a poker face and a cool head; not one that’s thin skinned and gets all butt hurt about small stuff.
MLBTR needs to hire editors
“Meanwhile” needs to start the sentence. As a conjunctive adverb, it can’t come in the middle between commas.
