Mark said earlier in the year not give up on the Astros.
I wrote that David Stearns was known in Milwaukee for making a series of what appeared to be small moves, but the cumulative effect results in a major impact.
Notice how this year we’ve heard little from Mets owner Stephan Cohen regarding player moves, nor have we seen the Mets being big players before and during the season in trading their youngsters and taking on salaries of veterans as they have previously under Mr. Cohen.
Instead we see Stearns turning over the youngsters on the roster to the coaching staff. Those that got better received more playing time and produced. Those that didn’t were sent to the minors or moved. This is the way all winning teams do it. Mr. Cohen wanted to play rotisserie league for real knowing he had the most money to spend. MLB doesn’t work like that. Organizations win. Coaches / instructors are important both in the majors and minors. Managers are important (the Mets have a solid baseball person). Scouts, analysts, analytical personnel and those breaking down film are important. Stearns has put an organization together the past 2 years. They’re going head to head with Dombrowski in Philly and Anthopoulos in Atlanta. I like Mike Rizzo in DC, but he just doesn’t seem to get pitching.

Would COL really resign Charlie Blackmon to a one year deal worth 8 figures, just for old time’s sake?
RunDMC
Yeah, I wonder what he means to ticket sales/attendance with that 1/13M deal he got to be a neg WAR player. 3 of their top-4 prospects are OF with Condon more than likely being a fast riser. Unless they give him full-time DH spot, which they’ll need for Bryant. Seems like a great time to move on.

It’s the Rockies, so yes

Marky Mark, I joined too late to ask what’s on your playlist?

It seems to me that in no way would the Brewers be interested in Bo Bichette. Partially it’s because I’ve never been particularly high on him, but more importantly is that the way the Brewers do things
o To begin, Bichette is a FA after the 2025 season. I don’t know what team would put together a package for him after his 2024 season. Surely someone desperate. Add in that Bichette is due over $17m in salary for 2025. That’s a pretty big gamble for a small market team.
o Not only can Joey Ortiz play SS, but Brice Turang and Andruw Monasterio can as well.
o The Brewers as other small market teams prefer to build up their young players by working with the coaching staff. It’s cost justified, and they can retain the player for years after he hits stride. The 3 young men above fit that criteria. I expect the Brewers intend to keep them for the next few years, as well as most of their top prospects..

When trade possibilities are discussed for teams such as the Brewers, Rays, Guardians, D-Backs, and Orioles; 0ne would have to find a pretty unique situation (such as the O’s needing an ace and having a farm system overloaded with quality infielders ready to come up to the majors) for them to give up (a) quality young player(s) for a one, or even a 2 year rental.
Russell Branyan
Agree, I’d be shocked if Ortiz isn’t the SS on OD next year. He clearly has the glove to stick there, so would be a big waste to invest anything into that spot.
The Brewers need to replace Adames bat, not his glove(which hasn’t been great this year). 3B is clearly the spot to do that.
Russell Branyan
He mentioned a guy I could see the Brewers targeting, Brett Baty. That’s the type of guy the Brewers target, young controllable bounce back candidate with prospect pedigree that would solve alot of the Brewers deficiencies if he gets right. 3B, LH, and power.
They never spend real prospect capital on guys with 1 year of control, and don’t see Bichette as the type of player that makes them change their process.

The Nationals have been my favorite team to watch this season. Definitely exciting.

With all due respect Mark was wrong about Jansen. The ONLY reason the Sox made that trade was because Jansen is righthanded and McGuire is lefthanded, and the Red Sox had promised to pick up a RHB at the deadline.
The Red Sox have been playing Wong around the field because they had Gasper on the active roster who was the third catcher. Nothing would have prevented them from doing the same with McGuire as the second catcher instead of Jansen.
Of course the change totally backfired as Jansen is far worse defensively and has continued his horrific hitting slump that began with the Jays.

I believe Kevin’s question regarding where Kris Bryant will play next year wasn’t what team but position.
Fever Pitch Guy
Kevin – I agree.
Mark Polishuk
Oops! Uh, in that case, first base or DH might be the best bet to help keep Bryant healthy.

The Padres attendance is 2nd in MLB behind the LAD. Their attendance per game is 3rd in MLB behind the LAD and the Phillies and ahead of the Yankees.
This year has been a smashing success and a 180 from last season. I can’t see them looking to replace Preller or having a fire sale when he’s had such a great year and the team is vibing so well and they’re selling out left and right.
I am curious if they look to retain Profar and/or Kim, both are such great fits that I hope they do. Higgy has been great, but Preller has a nice 3 year streak of getting solid catching production from unlikely players in Alfaro, Sanchez and now Higgy. So I imagine he leaves and they look for the next one on the cheap.

Verlander got lit up again… Is there a chance he moves to a closer role Like Smoltz did? I know he wants 300 wins, but this move will keep him in the game.
