Let’s design the Yankees new unofficial mascot, The Bleacher Creature.
Gwynning
YBC! YBC! YBC!!!
He should appear soon…
Fever Pitch Guy
Gwynn – I just found out TCBY is still around, thought they were gone long ago.
I remember when they were first founded, makes me feel old!

@2:07; liked “… just make the QO to Santander, and collect the pick”.
C Yards Jeff
Oops “collect” not “take”.
Gwynning
Extend “somebody” > re-sign Santander
C Yards Jeff
I agree Gwynning. Love to see the Os resign Tony Taters. I’m afraid the big market hounds will out bid any offer the Os make. Ugh.
Mullins. I’d extend him. Small market Os can afford him. Yes, he’s slowed a bit out there in CF, but his baseball movements to the ball are elite.
Gwynning
I agree on all points, but I’d rather see Gunner or Adley extended “first”… but Ced might be more of a priority because of his remaining control issue. Cheers brah!

Steve nailed the “Maddux” comment.
Greg Maddux was one of a kind. Not just his control but his intelligence. It blows my mind that Maddux would call his next pitch by how he caught the ball coming back from the catcher, all the signs and shaking the catcher off was all theatrics.
C Yards Jeff
I’m curious if a guy like Maddux would be elite in today’s game.
Part of the beauty of Greg’s game was his thinking which included strategy in between pitches to a hitter. The pitch clock destroyed that part of our national past time. Destroyed it.
Greinke, another beautiful baseball mind, walked away from the game not because of age, but because the pitch clock thinger took away the fun out of F’n with hitters in between pitches.
drasco036
I don’t think the pitch clock would affect Maddux. Maddux knew what he was going to throw a pitch ahead, he signaled his next pitch to the catcher by catching the ball a certain way.
C Yards Jeff
Hmm. Good point. You got me rethinking this.
yeasties
I saw something on youtube recently, they figured Maddux wouldn’t have made it today because you could tell which pitch was coming just from analyzing his video.
drasco036
Yeah because they didn’t have video in the 90’s?
Maddux’s catcher admitted that Greg called his own game and how he would catch a ball would determine the next pitch. Then he would do some type of body mechanical move to indicate location but it all looked so natural that no one knew what was happening. Now some YouTuber with the benefit of this knowledge claims that you could tell what he was going to throw. It’s laughable. The entire league couldn’t figure out Maddux, 27-29 teams had no idea, during a time where sign stealing was so notorious that teams would change them every couple innings but that guy claims he would have figured out Maddux.
Would maddux have the same success? Maybe, maybe not. Guys are just better now but he was very intelligent, a master game planner, his accuracy was so precise a catcher literally caught him with his eyes closed and he always threw from the exact same arm slot with the exact same action.
Fever Pitch Guy
Jeff – Check out Bowden Francis.
Dude throws 92-93 max, and he’s been dominating. Last 4 games he’s pitched 29 innings with a 0.62 ERA, 6 hits, 3 walks and 32 strikeouts. He’s a true PITCHER, and he’s starting tomorrow.
C Yards Jeff
FPG; sweet. I’m on it. Thanks for the intel.

The Orioles can replay the QO route for years. If Eflin pitches like 2023 and his first 5 Os starts, he’s a QO in 2025 and they get another Top 30 pick. Their three extra Top 30s in the 2025 draft will be MLB ready (if ever) in 2028-29. That’s when Adley, Westburg, Cowser and Gunnar approach or reach FA.
Gunnar and Westburg were picked later than the QO slot for revenue sharers. The pressure to extend any of their pre arb guys before their last arb year is minimal if they draft well with the bonanza of 2025 and 2026 picks.
Atlanta Jack
I was never a Cub fan but there never was a player I respected more than Gregg Maddux.
Gwynning
Seeing Gregg spelled that way made me think of Gregg Jeffries!
