Someone suggested contracts for Juan Soto:
Yankees $550mm
Mets $600mm
That question would be much more interesting if the two teams were not in the same city.
What if the Sacramento A’s offered him $50mm more than what the Yankees offer?

the difference isn’t 50M, it’s more like 25M-ish; because of taxes. gotta remember Sam takes a good chunck of those Million $ salaries

I don’t think the market for Soto is going to be anywhere near where Steve thinks. There just aren’t enough teams who spend at that level to drive the price up.
The Yankees already said they have limitations.
The Dodgers may be a little gun shy after the way this season played out.
That leaves the Mets. They basically will be bidding against themselves, and I think Stearns is smart enough to realize that.
The noise about Toronto and Philidelphia being in that market is just noise.

What about a return to Washington?
DonOsbourne
I would love to see that for the Nats fans, but I get the feeling that bridge is burned. Washington has a lot of OF talent right now anyway. They might be better off spreading the money around.

Orioles fan here. Tragic that the Yanks are indicating he’s probably not coming back. Not every elite player that goes to the Bronx feels comfortable playing in the Bronx. Soto flourishes. If he leaves; it’s sad for the game. Damn Stanton contract!

Dodgers, NYY, NYM, Phillies, Giants will all be in the mix and Seattle, Toronto, Nats should be too.

I’m sure they need one starter, but who from that list won’t be pitching in Detroit in 2025?

Excellent control (7.5ish BB% off the top of my head) but mid Ks. Annually excellent at run prevention. Runner-up to Yamamoto for the NPB ERA title in ’23. Would seem to be getting “better” with age.
Might be a savvy mid-rotation guy for an eager club!
