Mark, you didn’t exactly answer the question whether the Os will regret trading Norby. That’s a clear “no”. He was never going to be a MLB player for the Os, not even as a bench player. Holliday, Gunnar, Westburg and Mayo left no room for Connor Norby.
The question not asked is whether Rogers was the right pickup. Too early to answer. Was he an upgrade over Cole Irvin in the short term? Yes. Was there a comparable P with 2.5 years control available? Can’t think of one.
You can’t evaluate the deal by saying Norby and Stowers worth more than Rogers if one of the other 28 teams had them to trade. Only Elias had managed to draft and develop two entirely expandable assets like Norby and Stowers. My expectation was that they’d be secondary pieces or traded for draft choices or younger prospects,but those aren’t deadline deals for a contender.
Samuel
“Trading both Norby and Stowers for Rogers was the most surprising trade of the deadline for me, since one of those prospects alone would’ve constituted a nice return for Miami.’
–
The argument is that they have control over him for 2.5 years as opposed to 1.5.
But I think there’s something else……
The O’s trades were illogical. While they’re trying to fix Kimbrel in their pen (pitched for Philly last year), they got 2 bullpen pitchers that Philly was disappointed in – Seranthony Domínguez (I thought he was their future closer 2 years ago, he’s regressed badly) and Gregory Soto. In return the Phils got Austin Hays to (primarily) play LF.
I think both teams simply wanted to get rid of those players to open up roster spots to try others. Today the O’s color commentator said he spoke with an official that said what I wrote when they acquired Eloy Jiménez – he was stuck with a crummy organization that can’t set a professional tone for their players. If the O’s can get something out of him….fine. If not they’ll dump him before the end of the year. It was worth a shot.
–
In the case of the O’s their days of playing small ball at times are over. They’re murders row now, and if they screw up on D they’ll just outhit their mistakes. They’ll try to hold it down of course, but it’s no longer a top priority. And they’re clearly committed to their young players – Mateo and Urias will follow Hays out the door; Mullins probably and possibly even Santander. A few of their starting pitchers as well….time to try some others.
–
As for the Phillies – the dog days of summer have started. They’ve started regrouping the past few days and are getting ready for the stretch run.
–
Both the O’s and Phillies are going to the playoffs this year. Whether either team cares if they do it as a division leader or a wild card is something we don’t know. Many people believe it’s best to play through a WC series to stay sharp. Got argument’s either way.

Samuel, “In the case of the O’s their days of playing small ball at times are over.”
I hope they know where to draw the line, though. For years, instead of acquiring pitching and speed, the O’s signed guys like Cruz, Davis, Trumbo, etc. just so the fans could “ooh” and “ahh” over homers leaving the yard.

Toronto adds a ton of salary in the offseason every year, only to jettison it at the trade deadline if possible. Already wasting millions of dollars this season, insane fans are asking if the Blue Jays will spend $240 million and up for Soto in the offseason. Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it over and over. The franchise is a joke.

” It could be that the old “Cardinal Way” needs to be shaken up or updated a bit, since STL isn’t getting all the impact they could from their farm system”.
LOL
Come ‘on Mark.
The “old Cardinal Way” went out years ago, which is why I stopped following the team. You think that mentality would bring in a catcher like Willson Contreras to run a contending pitching staff? And exactly how good have their pitchers been in years…even what Yadi was calling games? That was an organization known for decades as developing pitchers out of their farm system. Now they do what all poorly run teams that have above-average revenue streams do – they buy their pitchers in FA or take on their salaries in trades.
–
And don’t forget how Mike Schilt was dumped as he fought to retain “the Cardinal Way”. Gee, for the first time under Preller the Padres are playing decent baseball…they just need to dump some me-first guys by next season.

Manager of the Year in AL – Stephen Vogt (if the Guardians keep it up).

LMAO. If you think Eloy Jimenez makes the Orioles ” Murderers Row” You’re quite delusional. he’ll have tiny bits of success then regress completely or get hurt. It’s a race to see what happens first. He starts to suck, Or he ends up on the IL. He”ll never change. Anthony Rendon 2.0.
Samuel
Unclemike1525;
I have no idea how you got that out of what I wrote.
Take a deep breath……

In regards to Eloy, just give me the 2014 version of Delmon Young over the next couple of months and I’ll take it.

Unclemike1525;
In turn, I got that out it of your post.
You think I wrote that one guy they got – that I say may not even be there at the end of the year – is changing that team? He’s a figgin’ crap-shoot, long-shot. Do you even know the other position players that are now taking over the O’s on the field? Have you ever watched even one of their games? Do you know what you’re writing about?
People come on this board blowing everything out of proportion and then pointing a finger at another poster.
You’ve been doing that here for years.
Get a grip guy.
Whoooooo………
Samuel
Mike;
Did you know the O’s were leading all of MLB in HR’s, were 2nd in Runs Scored, and leading in OPS BEFFORE THEY GOT ELOY?
Other than hating on some teams and players, what about baseball do you know?

There’s a few things you can count on with Samuel.
He will take 3 paragraphs to say what anyone else can say in one sentence. It won’t make any sense. When you call him out on his own dumb post he will try to turn it around and say you said the dumb thing he posted. He still thinks he’s in the third grade doing 500 word compositions. The next intelligent thing he says will be the first. So I’m not wasting any mor time after this.
