A’s left fielder Miguel Andujar is undergoing surgery to address a core injury, manager Mark Kotsay announced this afternoon (X link via Martín Gallegos of MLB.com). Oakland placed him on the 10-day injured list when they recalled infielder Nick Allen today; the A’s can move Andujar to the 60-day IL whenever they need a 40-man roster spot.
Oakland brought in Andujar via waivers from the Pirates last offseason. They agreed to a $1.7MM salary to avoid arbitration. A meniscus repair cost him the first six weeks of the regular season. Andujar returned in late May and went on to have an alright season. He played in 70 games and hit .285/.320/.377. That’s essentially league average offensive production. His 319 plate appearances represented his highest total since his 2018 rookie campaign, when he popped 27 homers as the Yankees’ everyday third baseman to earn a runner-up finish in Rookie of the Year voting.
The righty-hitting Andujar had huge platoon splits. He mashed left-handed pitching at a .411/.459/.536 clip in 61 trips. His .256/.287/.341 showing versus righties was far less impressive. Andujar certainly won’t maintain that kind of production against southpaws over a big sample, yet he kept his strikeout rate to a meager 9.8% clip in those situations. That could be enough to get him another shot as a short side platoon bat going into next season.
Andujar surpassed five years of major league service. He’d be due a modest raise if the A’s want to keep him around for his last year of arbitration. The A’s don’t have a single guaranteed contract on the books for next season. Brent Rooker will be their only arbitration-eligible player of note, and he’s going through the process for the first time. Even by A’s standards, there’s ample payroll flexibility to retain Andujar if they feel he has any untapped upside at the plate.

Haven’t heard anything about the new “stadium” or the “move” in a while. You do the math.
Bucket Number Six
At least he’s doing better than that other player. What was his name? Ashton Frazier?

The Tropicana gets knocked down next month . A’s will play in Sacramento and hopefully will be rid of the Lets go Oakland roaches. Even one dork showed up in Cincinnati .

Reread the comment right now. And how dare you use that language.

The Teopicana gets knocked down in October. Its already just a frame, its 3/4 gone.

Allegedly

It has to be talked about everyday?

This is probably the end for him on the A’s , because Seth Brown will probably man LF in 2025 with Soderstrom taking his 1B spot back . Andujar did provide some nice assists with his arm , but the lack of power is now explained with his core injury .
baseballhobo
I hope Brown gets non-tendered.
Rsox
Andujar could be back next season as he is still arb-eligable, even if he’s non-tendered there’s always a minor league deal.
I do wonder if the A’s will continue to play roster musical chairs as they try to endear themselves to the Sacramento fan base while also trying to help Sacramento prove it is MLB franchise worthy

It’s a fact that the A’s will be stacked when they go to Las Vegas, but I could see them make the playoffs in Sacramento
But if they made the playoffs there, a triple A park would not be suitable for a playoff game
Who knows what they would do, keep it there? Hope that the coliseum would be willing to house them for the playoffs? If it’s still even up by then? Are there any NFL stadiums in California that can fold into a diamond? (Baseball at sofi stadium would be awesome ngl)

It is not a fact the A’s will be stacked when they go to Vegas. That would take a certain cheapskate billionaire to spend some of his inherited money, and he’d have to find players willing to play for a lame organization.
LordD99
Their hitting should improve in Sacramento, but their pitching, long aided by the Coliseum, will be a mess.

Haven’t followed him this year but if he’s been playing with a core injury that required surgery, if deemed healthy, he’ll find another MLB job. Those stats against lefties even if unsustainable, prove there’s a job waiting for him. Has his defense improved? That was always the real knock.
StudWinfield
He’s close to an average corner OF’er. Got plenty of arm but struggles with range most likely attributable to his reads and footwork. Great to see him continue his career as a corner utility player but he still doesn’t have the power to be a everyday option. I expect him to be non-tendered but would not be surprised if he gets a 1 yr/$2 mill deal somewhere. He’s really not worth going to arbitration with.
Rsox
Could be another (albeit defensively worse) Rob Refsnyder for some team off the bench: a guy who absolutely kills lefties

If Seth Brown is the best the A’s can do for left field next season, the team is in big trouble.

At what point do the A’s attempt to put a competitive team on the field?
Suncloud
After they finally come to terms with their failed “move” from Oak-town and own up to reality of being in Oak-town long term. Even if they “move” to Las Vegas, they won’t be accepted. They would be hated and rejected there.
NYCityRiddler
Kinda like anytime you move, huh? Ahahaha!

Yes, because every team that has moved to a new city has failed! Dodgers, Giants, Braves, Expos/Nationals, Philadelphia A’s, Kansas City A’s, Orioles,… You would think they would have learned by now!
Clofreesz
So apparently the Yankees failed?
LordD99
The Yankees never moved. They were the AL’s first expansion team.

Here.
EDIT:
(Apparently, the Yankees WERE an expansion team. Never knew that. Always thought they moved from Baltimore to New York)
LordD99
It’s understandable because for the longest period it was accepted that the Baltimore team moved to NY and became the Yankees. The New York Americans at first by name, then the Highlanders, then the Yankees. In recent years, it became clear that they had no direct connection to the Baltimore orioles franchise. That said, there is still some disagreement and I do leave open the slight chance there may have been a link between the two teams. The answer lies in a landfill somewhere in NY. All the early records on the formation of the Yankees, early contracts, etc. were in something like a safe that was accidentally thrown out when they refurbished Yankee Stadium in the mid-70s. In it was a treasure trove of history, and it would be an actual treasure fortune to whomever could find it.

Wow
Such an unlucky guy
If not for all those injuries, especially that shoulder, he would have been a star
DR2020
Poor guy can’t catch a break since his almost rookie of the year season. Always rooted for him.

Good season Miguel, get well and we hope to see you back for a winning season for the A’s next year!
