Left-hander Joely Rodriguez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Red Sox and elected free agency in lieu of an outright assignment, per the transaction log at MiLB.com.
The 32-year-old Rodriguez had two stints with the Red Sox this season, pitching a combined 13 2/3 innings with a 5.93 ERA but more encouraging secondary marks. While Rodriguez’s 18.8% strikeout rate is a few percentage points shy of league-average, he issued walks at a tiny 3.1% clip and kept the ball on the ground at a gaudy 59.2% rate. Metrics like FIP (4.93) and especially SIERA (2.87) are far more bullish on this year’s work.
In 170 2/3 innings in the majors, Rodriguez has pitched to a 4.80 ERA. That pedestrian mark belies more encouraging strikeout and ground-ball numbers (22.5% and 56%, respectively), although Rodriguez’s ability to miss bats and keep the ball out of the air have both been undercut by sub-par command. He’s walked 10% of his career opponents and struggled to strand the runners he does allow (career 64% left-on-base rate).
This year’s 90 mph average sinker is down nearly five miles per hour from Rodriguez’s peak, but he still pitched reasonably well in Triple-A and still managed to pile up grounders in bulk at the big league level. He’ll be a depth option for clubs seeking lefty relief in the season’s final month.

Fever Pitch Guy
$4M spent for 24 innings of 6.20 ERA pitching
Only in Boston!!! Pinch every penny so it can be wasted on garbage!!

Fever, let’s see if the Sox will splurge. Why not sign Rogers to team with Hendriks next year?

What’s even more amazing is Sox are keeping Garcia Who pitched 11 innings given up 21 hits and 14 runs so far for the Sox
Hopefully their just waiting for him to love off the DL to DFA him
Sox67
lol. Move off.

Well, good or bad, they got Joely just by signing him. They gave up four guys for Garcia, which was ridiculous.. That, along with Nick Yorke hitting .367 for Pittsburgh’s AAA team while Quinn (The Eskimo) Priester is blazing along with an 8.10 ERA is why the next Sox move should be the firing of Breslow.
deweybelongsinthehall
I loved Yorke’s potential but apparently Priester has it too. Cost to get pitching is steep. While it’s too early to grade this trade, it was worth a shot.
all in the suit that you wear
Priester will totally change the way he pitches and it may take some time to accomplish. The plan for Priester:

Uncle Pedro’s Dancing Kittens
Agree that Garcia was a bust. Yorke was blocked and .367 in AAA doesn’t mean he is going to hit in the majors. Like Dewey said pitching is going to cost you a pretty penny. Give Priester some time before you give up on him. Definitely not time to fire Breslow. This team has played above expectations, maybe he will have some money to spend in the offseason.

I’ve decided I’m done with this place. Seems like more and more people here don’t appreciate me, and they think they know it all, so I don’t need to waste my te preaching to the choir. With that, I say adieu.

Hasta la vista, baby!

You haven’t been here long enough to be appreciated. I met my wife 42 years ago this weekend and I’m still wondering how appreciated I am…

I had a wife once. Don’t no more. I’m like a free man in Paris. Unfettered and alive.

Know that feeling Dewey.. Longer together, less it seems huh? Known mine like forever, her brother a friend of mine since school days.

For what it’s worth, Bryan Bello, your avatar is yummy.
Kidding Right?
A pedant? Maybe I am.
The expression “Preaching to the choir” means that you’re wasting your time trying to persuade people who already agree with you. A politician who only “speaks to the choir” is a politician who is blathering on about things their audience already agrees with. A similar idiom is “beating a dead horse”.
Then again, internet arguments that “fall on deaf ears”, or are described as “like talking to a fence post” are, equally, a waste of time, even though they represent the opposite of”preaching to the choir ”
You wouldn’t annoy people here by preaching to the choir, but you would probably bore them.
I’ve created, managed, and occasionally participated in online message boards for over 30 years, and I’ve never seen an argument won.
Ok Yankees Fan
Yankees need a good lefty reliever. Could a reunion be in the offing?

Problem is ‘good’ and ‘joely’ are like oil and water, they just don’t go together.
