TODAY: Rosario has turned down the outright assignment and elected to become a free agent, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman writes (X link).
AUGUST 10: Rosario has passed through waivers, and the Braves have outrighted him to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers, according to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It is unclear if Rosario has accepted the assignment; the veteran outfielder has more than enough MLB service time to reject an outright assignment without forfeiting any salary.
AUGUST 8: The Braves announced Thursday that outfielder Eddie Rosario has been designated for assignment. His spot on the 40-man roster goes to right-hander Parker Dunshee, whose contract has been selected from Triple-A Gwinnett. Atlanta also optioned lefty Dylan Dodd to Gwinnett and recalled outfielder Eli White.
The 2024 season has been the worst of the 32-year-old Rosario’s decade-long big league career. He’s split the season between the Nats and Braves, tallying 319 plate appearances in spite of a disastrous .175/.215/.316 batting line — including a .154/.181/.282 slash in 84 plate appearances since being released in Washington and signing in Atlanta.
Rosario, the 2021 NLCS MVP has been in a free-fall at the plate for the bulk of the past four seasons. While a well-timed surge following a trade from Cleveland to Atlanta in ’21 helped fuel the Braves’ World Series win that year and set the stage for a two-year deal to return to Atlanta, that contract didn’t pan out as hoped.
Rosario spent the 2022-23 seasons drawing regular playing time when healthy, but he managed only a .240/.289/.408 output at the plate in those two seasons. The Braves declined a $9MM club option over his 2024 season, and Rosario lingered on the free-agent market into March before signing a minor league deal with the Nationals. He returned to Atlanta on another minor league contract after being cut loose in D.C., but he hasn’t been able to recapture any of that late-’21 magic. With the trade deadline now passed, Rosario will be released within the next couple days.
As for the 29-year-old Dunshee, he’ll be making his big league debut after grinding through eight minor league seasons and twice becoming a minor league free agent. Originally selected with the Athletics’ seventh-round pick back in 2017, the Wake Forest product spent six-plus years in the A’s system before being released last April and signing a minor league deal with the Giants for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. He latched on with the Braves on another minor league pact this past January.
Dunshee will now get his first crack in the majors, and he’s more than earned it. Splitting the season between Double-A (14 2/3 innings) and Triple-A (32 1/3 innings), he’s worked to a combined 2.30 earned run average with a massive 33.7% strikeout rate against a 9.2% walk rate. Dunshee is a fly-ball pitcher who’s been fortunate this season in the sense that he hasn’t allowed any home runs. That level of home run suppression isn’t sustainable for any pitcher, but Dunshee’s strikeout and walk rates create plenty of intrigue on their own, even with some regression due on the home run front.
This one belongs to the Reds
That was brief.

As much as we hoped it worked out for nostalgia sake, 78AB .154 BA, it’s not surprising. Thanks for ‘21 Eddie!
Paleobros
I’m a Braves fan, but nostalgia is a toxic impulse.
Curly Was The Smart Stooge
Soler as well? UGH, I knew AA wasn’t perfect
scarfish
‘Nostalgia is a toxic impulse’ is genius
Definitely using that
SocoComfort
Atleast Soler is batting above the Mendoza line unlike Rosario and Duvall.
Braves Butt-Head
Well he could go to Gwinnett you never know
bigalcathey
I don’t see anyone else picking him up
solaris602
Yeah, I think the next stop needs to be the Mexican League or Asia if he intends to keep playing. The magic has clearly abandoned him in MLB.
Brain Fantana
Well… that didn’t work. Lot of pieces to address after the season to deal with depth issues for the Braves.
MacGromit
Oh no! Say it ain’t so, Eddie! The warm fuzzies are gone.
Clofreesz
And… he is gone.
Skyrider123
Too many injuries and down years from players to overcome. Adding Soler at the deadline doesnt appear to have worked.

End of an era

Eddie and Jorge were great the first time around, but that was lightning in a bottle. Neither should have been reacquired, especially Jorge.
mlb fan
“Especially Jorge”..Alex A. has mostly been brilliant as Atlanta’s GM, but no GM bats a 1.000 in this business. Jorge Soler is possibly(probably)Alex A’s biggest mistake to date.
Mercenary.Freddie.Freeman
Jorge’s 24 at bats is a pretty small sample size. Plus he is starting to hit.
mlb fan
“Pretty small sample size”…I include the SF at bats and some of the SF fans I’ve spoken to on this site couldn’t wait for Soler to be moved. Soler is a streaky player(some years good but most are mediocre or bad)but in my opinion his inconsistency makes him undependable.
bhambrave
The biggest problem with getting Soler isn’t his effect on the team this year. It’s the fact that he’ll be around for two more years after this one, and that his contract is pushing the Braves’ first round pick down ten spots.
BravesFan2024
Yeah let’s look at the mostly brilliant track record of Alex A.
-Traded William Contreras (and more) to get Sean Murphy… at a higher salary no less
-Traded a number of players for Olson while letting Freeman walk and extended him for a little less than what it would have taken to sign Freeman
-Ignored to corner outfield for years. Finally tried to add Kelenic this year to address that hole which is at least an attempt but has come with mixed results.
-Ignored the need for a SS when a bunch were available 2 years ago
And a number of smaller deals, like Solar and Rosario this year, that aren’t worth mentioning either way.
To pretend Jorge Soler this year is his biggest mistake is an utter joke. I’m so sick of this free pass the users on here give him. A true assessment of him is that he’s been about average. He’s had some really good moves and some really bad ones. He’s squandering a golden opportunity with all this young talent to rack up multiple championships. He wasn’t here piecing together Albies, Riley, Freeman, Swanson, Acuna, Fried, Strider, Harris, and Contreras…. He literally inherited all of that.
He’s been average. Most GMs would have put together at least one WS win inheriting that group. So far he’s got 1. If he was this God you all make him out to be we would have more than 1. Again he’s not bad, but he’s not that good either. Just be honest and stop glorifying him. It’s disgusting and undeserved.
braveshomer
I agree, he rode the coat tails of Coppollela for most of the ‘Core’ we have now. He was very savvy in the young players extension but has otherwise overseen talent at multiple positions get worse. Way over paid in multiple trades and have rushed way too many Starting pitchers up from the minors. Some things have worked great especially the bargain finds, otherwise I don’t get the genius label myself….However, I disagree on the Freeman situation. Freeman could cry all those crocodile tears he wanted to lol, but it was pretty clear he wanted to go to LA.
mlb fan
“He’s been average..disgusting and undeserved” You’re clearly biased and clearly have a horse in this race. The reason I can say this is because you wrote a very long post and never once mentioned that A.A engineered a remarkable turnaround in ’21 and won a World Series. Without his best player no less. I’m not from Georgia or an A.A fanboy, but I do know quality when I see it. And I’m guessing that A.A must have stole your girlfriend or wife. Am I right?
its_happening
AA, up until the Tulowitzki/Reyes trade, was easily the most overrated GM in baseball. Did nothing significant, zero success. But did a couple things right, such as extending Bautista and Encarnacion.
Similar to the extensions to Acuna, Albies and others. He also likes to draft pitching. A lot. But he came into a good situation in Atlanta as they were on their way up.

Straight up, you’re not a Braves fan, you’re just a troll.
“-Traded a number of players for Olson while letting Freeman walk and extended him for a little less than what it would have taken to sign Freeman”
No one let anyone walk-The Braves did not let Freeman walk, Freeman walked himself. If he wanted to be a Braves lifer he would have said where do I sign. Instead, he said he left it in his agent’s hands and his agent “didn’t tell him what was going on”. Go tell your bull#*it some place else-‘Braves fan2024’.
Last but not least, how do you think this team would be going with Strider, Acuna, Albies, and Harris not injured. Would they have done better? Then you’re asking AA to go out and basically ‘fix’ that. With who, exactly?
AL B DAMNED
One of those players traded for Olson was Shea Langeliers, who has more homeruns than Olson and Murphy Combined! Braves problem is they need to *FIRE SNITKER* !
User 401527550
100% I don’t know why there is a cult following on this GM?
Smacky
$18m for Cole Hamels to pitch 1 1/3rd of an inning.
UWPSUPERFAN77
You forgot Duval in 2001
User 401527550
Might not hear about him in the big leagues ever again.
EM41
I never understood why the Braves re-signed Rosario in the first place.
And I never understood why they kept playing him almost every day.
Hopefully when Harris is activated next week, the Braves will DFA Duvall.
bhambrave
Duvall is still productive against lefties. He’s good enough to be a bench/platoon piece.
LFGMets (Metsin7) #BannedForBeingABaseballExpert
Eddie Rosario hasn’t been the same since hes had eye issues. Thats one of the worst injuries you can get in baseball. Its hard to see a 100mph fastball or a nasty slider with blurred vision
UWPSUPERFAN77
Thank You for the insight!

Braves are scuffling, Mets May pass them in the standings. When you look at the Braves batting averages then it’s no big mystery.

@teddyj
*have passed.

So….these sabermetric numbers just don’t make sense to me. Stanton hits .190 and Rosario hits .150 but Stanton is rewarded by keeping his job while Rosario is cut? They both are pretty unbearable to watch but everytime Stanton steps to the plate we are told how he mashes the hell out of baseballs? Is that when he actually makes contact or isn’t on the IL where the powers that be hides him in order to protect the narrative we are told? Rosario actually shows up and puts forth effort and we are told how dismal his performance is even though he’s only had 149 appearances this year? Damn! Give him 300-400 appearances like Stanton has been afforded and he would probably break the .200 barrier which Stanton can’t! Homers aren’t everything!
Paleobros
If Stanton had the Rosario contract and not the Stanton contract, he’d prob be gone a long time ago.
EM41
Stanton’s OPS is .771, Rosario’s OPS with Braves is .463
Yankees owe Stanton about $75 M (not including the $40M owed by Marlins
Braves owe Rosario nothing after his release.
UWPSUPERFAN77
TO BBF: Stanton was better this year. He is owed a lot of money. Even the Yanks do not want to Eat a big contract!
jaybest
Stanton will never try to do much better because he already has a guaranteed contract. Rosario doesn’t have a long term contract.
Niekro floater
Now bring back Joc since we’re traveling down memory lane. Is AA a relly good GM or a very lucky one ?
EM41
AA is a good GM who makes mistakes, just like every other GM
dpcollects
If he’s healthy, it might behoove Rosario to accept a MiLB assignment to see if he can regain his stroke and be a September (28-man roster) call-up for the Braves. It would be an uncommon move for a veteran of his stature but might not be a bad move either.
AL B DAMNED
*FIRE SNITKER* *!*
Why doesn’t anyone in the media question Snitker putting in a Lefty (AJ Minter) in a tie game (8/7) with 2 runners on base, to face 5 Right handed batters due up? (4 RH + 1 Switch hitter). The 1st Lefty Bat due up was 6 batters later, which they used a pinch hitter anyway, but the point is WHY? does he make these stupid moves and nobody questions him! Snitker’s Analytics team must be a 2 headed coin, loaded dice, or “ASK JEEVES”!
UWPSUPERFAN77
I saw it. he manages by the Gut, kind of like Murphy for the brewers!
vacommish
He should also never bring Chaves into a game where the Braves lead or are tied.
ih8tepaperstraws
Be careful what you wish for. We’ll gladly take schnicker in Saint Louis.
UWPSUPERFAN77
They broke up the 3 Amigos of 2021! Only DuVal and Solar remain!
vacommish
Duvall should be next but there is no talent behind him on the MLB or MiLB depth chart.
Rsox
Lightning usually doesn’t strike twice. It’s why the Braves will probably due one of their patented salary dump trades to get rid of Soler next winter
UWPSUPERFAN77
Is Solar hurt? He took a big hit in Mondays games against the wall?
AL B DAMNED
Luke Jackson will have more homeruns than Jorge Soler..AND Jorge Soler will have more strikeouts than Luke Jackson.

Who won the game? Haven’t had a chance to grab the paper from the end of the driveway.

The Braves acquired Adam Duval, Eddie Rosario and Jorge Soler for the 21 season. All three are back but shouldn’t be.
Hamilton Miller
I am excited. If Rosario does end up at Gwinnett. I would love to see Eddie and Yuli Gurriel out in the field at the same time. Just might put butts in the seats for the rest of the year.
Does this mean that AA is actually looking to build ‘something’ in Gwinnette that looks like a complete team? Maybe the Stripers can win again and set the stage for the next crop of players to come through CoolRay.
Skyrider123
Looks like Rosario accepted his return to Gwinnett as he is listed on their roster.
TradeAcuna
The Braves stinking it up is the best thing to happen to the team since 2021. They need to rebuild completely. The core is not good and Soler and Rosario are not good anymore. The Braves got lucky they caught fire in the playoffs in 2021. They would have been destroyed otherwise.
Acoss1331
Eddie is going back to join The Cruisers!
citizen
Roasrio was good in his first week back then tapered off. The pitching is starting to wear. The milwaukee series was probably another low point. I don’t think there was one impact player like a Ozuna available, except a jonathan india, whom the reds probably dont want to part with and the braves don’t want to give up a lot considering they aren’t running away with the division let alone the top wild card any more.
Rishi
Look at Parker Dunshees career hitting if you want to see something truly remarkable. It says he plays CF too. He has never gotten a hit. At any level. Ever.
libertybell444
Phils are thin in the OF and going through a rough patch. He might get a one week job and if he sticks good and if he stinks bye. Who knows.
UWPSUPERFAN77
I give him a pass. Not much money owed, so He is not stealing it!
wifflemeister
Atlanta needs to pay Luke Jackson whatever it takes to make him go away and never come back. He is truly awful.
Dumpster Divin Theo
Can’t really fault Rosie from taking a pass on Gwinnett. Gwinnett hasn’t been the same since she started dating Coldplay, should have just stayed as Tony Starks assistant

the way this team has been with luck, and aa likes to send up send down, he should have just stayed
