The Yankees and Padres are two of the teams expressing interest in left-hander Blake Snell, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman writes (links to X). Reports surfaced earlier this week that Snell was drawing interest from pitching-needy contenders, and New York and San Diego are the first clubs specifically known to gotten in touch with the Giants over Snell’s availability.
It remains to be seen if the Giants will actually move Snell, or be deadline sellers in any real capacity given that the team is still just 4.5 games out of a wild card berth. Snell is himself a major factor in San Francisco’s renewed hopes of contention, as the southpaw has been almost untouchable since returning from the injured list. Over his last four starts, Snell has a 0.75 ERA and a 35.7% strikeout rate, highlighted by a 15-strikeout gem of an outing against the Rockies yesterday.
This is the type of rotation-carrying production was what the Giants were hoping to receive when they signed the reigning Cy Young Award winner to a two-year, $62MM deal back in March. However, Snell’s lengthy stint in free agency and subsequent lack of proper Spring Training work wreaked havoc on his performance, resulting in two IL stints (with an adductor strain and a groin strain) and a 9.51 ERA over his first six starts in a Giants uniform.
This recent injury history will obviously weigh on the minds of any team that does approach the Giants about a Snell trade, not to mention the fact that Snell can opt out of the second year (and $30MM salary) of his contract. The presence of this opt-out clause means that Snell isn’t exactly a rental player, thus creating extra financial risk for an acquiring team, and some difficulty in working out an acceptable trade package with San Francisco. Snell’s recent form increases the chances that he might exercise his player option, but if any more injury issues arise, Snell could pass on his opt-out and remain on the books for that hefty $30MM payday next year.
Snell is naturally a known quantity to the Padres after pitching with San Diego from 2021-23, but the financial aspect of a Snell trade is particularly noteworthy for a Padres team that is trying to remain under the luxury tax threshold this season, in order to reset its penalty status after two years of overages. San Diego’s acquisition of Jason Adam from the Rays earlier today resulted in a pretty minor financial hit, though the Padres had to give up a hefty prospect package to obtain the reliever. Payroll aside, there is also the broader fact that it seems rather unlikely that the Giants would trade Snell to a division rival.
The Bronx Bombers have long had Snell on their radar, and the six-year, $150MM offer Snell reportedly received from the Yankees in January is the highest contract known to be on the table for the left-hander during his elongated free agent market. As Heyman notes, the luxury tax is also a factor given that New York has already topped the upper tier ($297MM) of tax penalties. RosterResource estimates that the Yankees’ Competitive Balance Tax number is just shy of $312.9MM, and thus they would face a 110% tax on any further salaries added to their ledger.
Longtimecoming
I like a Snell reunion tour. If he pitches like he did in 2023 for the last 2 months he could be the difference maker. I think he gave up maybe 3 ER’s all of Sept!
towinagain
agree. Picture this rotation…
Cease
Snell
King
Waldron
Musgrove/Vasquez maybe a Darvish return
Musgrove or Darvish in long relief(crazy) until building up arm strength
That’s a quality rotation there!

Ah, Webb, Ray, Snell, Birdsong, Harrison. That’s a quality rotation there!
Poolhalljunkies
Lol if he pitches like he did yesterday

He’s got 5 er in his last 28 innings…. Dude is his old self
Brew88
After the heavy investments into winning this year, and being not that far from serious contention, and now getting both Snell and Ray on track, I’m not sure the Giants are eager to sell.
Jean Matrac
It’s complicated. Yeah, Snell is looking good. As is the 4 game winning streak, but it’s been against the Rockies, who are terrible on the road. And it was just last week, that they lost 2 of 3 in Colorado. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them falter a bit against the A’s. On top of that, there are 4 teams between them and the last WC spot. The playoff odds are less than 20% according to Fangraphs. I hope they will be eager to sell if the returns are good.
frugalfarhan
Gonna cost you Jones or Dominguez for Snell yankees!
yanks2323
yeah ok!!! Pass the pipe
Balk
Nah, you’ll be passing on Snell though…haha
Anthony maresca
Not a chance especially with the opt out clause. No team parting with a top 30 prospect in all of mlb especially owed 40 million total if he does not opt out
Salzilla
Get real, nobody is paying a top prospect for him.
Poolhalljunkies
Then you wont get him..pretty simple
padam
And the Giants can eat the $30M+ next year as well.
Rob Schumann
You are dreaming if you think Snell will bring back a return like Domingguez. He is pretty much a rental that has been on the IL twice this year already and only pitches 5 innings a game. Young cheap controllable TOR arms bring back prospects like Domingguez. Rentals like Snell don’t unless they are having a CY caliber year and a team is desperate. There are controllable TOR pitchers available if the Yankees were to make those prospects available.
2014giants
Get real giants aren’t giving him away either!
reehs131
No, it won’t.
yanks2009
Not really because of his next year salary
Pete'sView
I think Yankees are too in love with Dominguez.

As a rental, why would SF care about trading to a division rival? I know he has an option.
Simm
Exactly, you take the best package.
sad tormented neglected mariners fan
God padres and Blake snell again would be something but he would probably push them over the tax
He would be a good fit on the Yankees but the Yankees have to gear up to sign Soto to a mega deal
El Niño
The Giants would just have to pick up the salary and the padres would have to offer more value for that.
mark1623
Padres appear to have about 12 million in room under the tax, which is about what Snell would have left. Padres are also gaining about 100k in room for every day Darvish stays on the restricted list.
Simm
No, snell is only being paid 15m in salary this year. So his tax number would be 5m or about. The 17m he got from a signing bonus isn’t transferable.
He would fit in and still lose e about 6m. Plus the padres are either further under the tax because they aren’t paying darvish while he is gone.
Anthony maresca
Soto not returning to Yankees at his asking price. Consider him 1 and done. Cashman is a moron as he knew the chances of Stop signing an extension was zero
Blackpink in the area
Snells 30 million dollar salary for next year is paid out 15 million in 2025 and 15 million in 2027. So that would help the Yankees pay for it.
JoeBrady
That discount wouldn’t amount to much. Estimating a 4% discount for CBT, the 2nd $15M tranche might be valued at $13.8M.
Blackpink in the area
It’s not just the discount for the time value of money it’s that it doesn’t have to be paid right away.
Jean Matrac
It’s the AAV that counts which is $30M. The deferred money might save them a little since the value of that $15M is slightly less a year later, but it’s not going to save the Yankees very much.
Pads Fans
Snell would cost the team he is traded to just $5 million towards their CBT. The Giants have to pick up the signing bonus and the prorated portion of his $15 million salary.
The option doesn’t apply until its exercised so that would be on 2025.
jimd-2
I expect SF to hold onto Snell. The Giants remaining schedule is very favorable and they have a lot of games left vs SD and Arizona. The Giants rotation is just now taking shape with Snell now being dominant and Robbie Ray back from Tommy John..
Balk
I agree, I would actually like to see him extended too to be honest
Zombie Bukowski
Giants ain’t making no playoffs. That’s their last series against the Rockies, the Diamondbacks and Padres are starting to play well too.
Brew88
18 of the Giants next 23 games are against teams with losing records. They may not make the playoffs, but what matters, in terms of Snell’s availability, is if they want to keep it together and try for playoffs.
OldSaltUSN
Yep, if the Giants front office sells Snell, they’ve just communicated to the manager, coaches, team, and the fans, a “no confidence” vote for the 2024 Giants. They’re only 3.5 games back in the wild card race, with plenty of baseball left.
On the other hand, if the GM ~~ believes ~~ this team doesn’t have the pieces required to make a serious run, it’ll require some stones to sit tight and do nothing as the TDL passes in a couple of days.
Heck, that’s where we are at. There are may six or ten MLB teams begging the baseball gods for help, begging their TEAMS to either quickly fail or run away with it for a couple of weeks (as the Pads have almost done) to prove the team has a chance at the post season. Man, it’s tough being one of those GM’s.
As far as the Padres go, Preller has no chance to figure out a trade to get the Padres a starter, without selling off top farm pieces that may cripple the Padres for 3-4 years in the future.
No chance whatsoever.
That’s exactly what I thought before Arraez ….
… and before he got Cease
…….and it was gonna be a sure losing season when the Padres lost 3 starters, an all-star closer, the best 2023 relievers…
Yep, Preller has no chance, but

Zombie…I didn’t ask for your opinion, but I’ll play along, how are the Friars and Dbacks going to hit against a great pitching rotation? Giants, if they add, could make a push just like any other team. Lots of games left, Giants have the easiest schedule out of all of them.

Fringe prospects for Snell but why do it with Trevor Bauer out there? Makes no sense when he’s been cleared and players have done much worse and were guilty but got second and third chances. There must be more we don’t know. Maybe it’s political? Certain Political affiliation seems to be a major concern in this woke environment. If any players shows any favoritism towards DJT the athletic jumps on it and the team is forced to answer for it. Maybe that’s why Bauer will not be signed? Just a thought….

That is called a free society so anyone who hopes this guy doesn’t pitch in the majors again should give there true feelings why that is and please don’t say he is mean and made mean tweets because how many jerks are playing in the majors who are actually guilty of crimes?

I think a GM ~~ NOT ~~ signing Bauer to at least a minor league contract is malpractice. You buy pitching where pitching is available, and at the price one can afford. If Bauer can’t cut it, or fails a later PED/morals cause in his contract, kick him loose with little $$$ lost. The potential upside is huge.
I’m sorry, but I don’t by the argument that Bauer is worse than say, the PED riddled ballplayers of the last few decades, some of who are going to the Hall of Fame. I mean, it’s not like he bet on baseball or something baseball related. He’s just politically incorrect, and there’s a whole LOT of talent like that playing in the MLB every day.

Again, one side of the political spectrum doesn’t walk their talk. They’d censor Mother Teresa if it matched their goals. Yeah, let’s all figure out one way or another to “SILENCE” those who disagree with our political (or other) points of view.
That’s transparent path to tyranny.
By the way, the OP wasn’t the guy who specifically injected politics onto this thread. However, the rabid response about Bauer certainly CONFIRMED his original claims. I mean, have they talked about the BASEBALL potential of this VETERAN BASEBALL player? No, they just try to silence those who mentioned his name.
Well, none of us have a dog in that hunt. Some MLB club will grab Bauer is he’s still capable as a major league pitcher, or none will either because of social pressure or MLB Front office “graylisting” against Bauer (i.e. unofficially banning him and prohibiting any franchise from signing him). Nothing we can do about it, either way it falls. Bauer was an arrogant SOB (that’s not a capital crime, by the way), and got himself into his mess. It’s his mess to get out of, or retire a fairly rich man. Not tragic no matter how it turns out.
OldSaltUSN
True, it’s not like banning books. It’s more like preventing books from being published, i.e. the same effect by different means. You didn’t just hit mute. Your urging everyone else to hit mute.

One might suggest that having 100s of posters on mute, because of their opinions, is a more serious problem than people posting those opinions.
sfjackcoke
This isn’t about Bauer’s politics which he actually shares with most MLB owners. It’s actually quite simple, the story was VERY UGLY and VERY PUBLIC. He mostly didn’t dispute what happened, his claim has always been it was all contractually consensual and that is the problem.
Most of America would consider his private bedroom behavior deviant, add that to his prior public persona and MLB was done with him from that moment forward. MLB is big business, what advertiser in stadium, on TV, wants to have Trevor Bauer in frame next to their name?
billysbballz
Actually he in fact disputed them all. Please provide facts and not feelings. He even went on news networks to dispute them begging for a team to sign him at league minimum. He even said he will not tweet of that is what it takes to be back in major leagues. I don’t follow Bauer but I followed the process and saw many posts all over social media to know enough that if he’s not found guilty of a crime than why is he not playing in the majors especially when we all know he is good enough to pitch in every major league teams starting five!
mz90gu
I never understood why gms are so scared to sign players like this because of “backlash” All you gotta say is he was found innocent its low risk and had a good interview.
Why would people care at that point its about producing and winning,so I agree sign the dude who cares,as far as cancer well he does play in Japan and has been fine so that comment doesn’t really apply.
The Crow's Nest
Owners want money players. The fact that Bauer is not playing here says a lot. It means owners and managers don’t need an unpredictable destabilizing influence in the clubhouse. Track record. For Professor Dubious, who suggested that he has been totally cleared,’Where there is smoke, there usually is/was fire.’
sfjackcoke
This is not a GM/baseball ops decision alone, it needs all of baseball ops, business ops and the team ownership’s sign off. Playing MLB is not a right, it’s a privilege.
By all accounts Bauer didn’t have many in his corner before all this happen, not sure who in MLB would want to go to bat for him. Can you imagine being a VP of Baseball ops and even broaching the subject with team ownership?
Julio Urias is the first “two time” offender under MLB’s domestic violence program. I think he has an uphill battle on his hands and likely will take a similar route to Bauer and go play somewhere else. Wander Franco’s situation is not good either where Urias costs himself ~ $100M in free agency and Wander might blow up his $180M guaranteed contract.
oldgfan
How awesome is cut & paste ?
Not.
padam
Did you ever consider that it’s because players can’t stand Bauer and he’s a clubhouse cancer, as opposed to going the political route? Using politics as the excuse is just a weak minded attempt to excuse someone of being an a-hole in life.
BBSmoke
Another discussion involving a pitcher, another post from you mentioning Bauer. He’s not been signed because he’s a clubhouse killer. It’s that simple. Go back to your other conspiracy theories, like Qanon, a faked moon landing, or the earth being flat.
OldSaltUSN
“Go back to your other conspiracy theories, like Qanon, a faked moon landing, or the earth being flat.”
Ya know, not everyone in this country is a left-wing Democrat narcissist, as you appear to be. You just insulted half the country with partisan innuendo. It’s inappropriate for this or any other social media thread.
Again, it’s not unusual, but it is disgusting to see the Dems not walk their “Democracy” talk.
OldSaltUSN
@Beisbol
“Why do so many military dudes not have any idea what democracy is?”
Maybe because we and our brothers BLED to defend the real thing.
It’s not subjective, i.e. “OUR DEMOCRACY”. It’s the Constitutional democratic republic. US democracy is not woke “OUR DEMOCRACY”, exclusively defined and held by the political left.
Anyhow, I was talking about a baseball player named Bauer. Every single thing I’ve posted has been in response to others trying to ostracize and shutdown other posters, and prevent hearing their points of view, including their opinion that Bauer deserves a chance to play in the MLB again..
Honestly, I hope you understand that, because us “Old Navy” guys fought for YOUR Constitutional rights and security, also. No one I ever served with, considered American democracy and government, parochial. That happened sometime about 2009, or maybe earlier. (It’s a whole ‘nother, non-baseball discussion.)
Go Padres, and I hope you enjoy your baseball season.
BBSmoke
First my comment wasn’t a knock against the right. Simply a knock about the constant conspiracy theories regarding Bauer. Secondly I picked three of the dumbest theories imaginable to compare to the one on Bauer. If you want to be narrow minded enough to associate Qanon, flat earth theory, or a staged moon landing with all Republicans then you’re the one calling your party morons…not me. In fact, I typically don’t talk politics at all, especially on a baseball forum. And lastly, learn to take a joke.
OldSaltUSN
CBeisbol’s quote of the OP, is just letting everyone know how evil the OP is, just like Bauer, and that we should all mute or try getting him banned, because …. ahhh

I’m probably next.

Mattingly was a horrible manager. No thank you. Hire Kim Ng and let her choose if you’re going to axe Cash.

This could be a move the Orioles could make. They have tons of payroll flexibility and wouldn’t need to give up a ton of prospects if they take on the payroll.
Pete'sView
All along I’ve thought the Orioles made the most sense for Snell. Question is only if the new owner wants to go for it, but I could see the birds winning the WS if they grabbed Snell. That’d be quite a rotation (Burnes, Rodriguez and Snell).
alumofuf
No Snell! Huge mistake to get him. Price is too high for his salary and what you have to give up. This article is a joke.
Blackpink in the area
You have no idea what teams would have to give up to get him.

The way snell is pitching the 30 million this year may well end up being worth it. If I am the Giants at this point I don’t let him go for any thing but his full salary. If a team is worried about the extension then they shouldn’t be asking about him in the first place. In fact they should be wanting him to opt-in and knowing he won’t. If he keeps going like this he will sign for much more next year. Personally I hope the Giants hold him and he sticks around for 2025.
Blackpink in the area
If you are a Giants fan not sure why you would want him gone. It’s just money and it’s not your money. The Giants probably should just keep him and hope ot all works out.

$5 million is all the acquiring team would be on the hook for this season. Have you seen his last 4 games since he returned from the IL?

Padres are not going to do this unless SF pays a good chunk of it. That will cost a king’s ransom in prospects. I just don’t see this happening.
Blackpink in the area
The contract is in the red as of today although he’s pitched great his last 3 starts. Giants would do this as a way to clear some payroll but that’s not really a Giants move so I dont think he gets traded.
Simm
He is owed a whopping 5m this year. Padres can easily afford him.
Candlestoked
Simm SF won’t let a rival get an asset of any value. No way.
Jean Matrac
With the opt-out, I don’t think the Giants care about trading him to a division rival I don’t think they’ll have to worry about him coming back to haunt them next season. I mean he might, but only if SD or LA sign him to a new FA contract next season. Which would happen whether they traded him or not.
Pads Fans
Why? All Snell is due this season is $5 million. The rest is owed by the Giants.
James Midway
Snell signed a two-year, $62 million contract in March and his competitive balance tax (CBT) calculation of $29.7 million.
Pads Fans
Snell signed a 1 year, $32 million deal with a player option for 2025 at $30 million.
That contract was for a $15 million 2024 salary and a $17 million signing bonus. The signing bonus counts toward the Giants CBT calculation, not the team trading for him. The team trading for Snell would be responsible on the CBT for the balance of his salary for 2024.
An option is counted only if it is exercised and in the year it would be paid. It would not count for the Padres or any team trading for him in 2024. It is essentially a 1 year deal for $27 million for CBT purposes because half of it is deferred until 2027.
Phillips talked about this today on MLB Network radio.
Frankie Bani
Snell over Cortés and Rodón
Mikenmn
Cashman, don’t bite, Just don’t. You will hamstring yourself for a team that can’t go deep into the playoffs.
Not a clever name
Keeping snell allows the giants to slot in Ray and possibly Cobb. If Ray and snell keep pitching like they did this week the rotation could be Webb, snell, Ray, Harrison, birdsong, while boosting the bullpen with hicks. If you assume snell Ray and Cobb will produce which they must since they signed two of the three while injured and snell has been lights out lately, then it’s like going out and getting 2 top starters and a late inning reliever at the deadline. Even if they come up short off the playoffs they need to keep 33k fans or more engaged if they want them back next year. I don’t think a handful of new prospects will achieve that. The smart business move for sf is to buy.
Pete'sView
Only if Farhan adds two everyday bats, one of whom is a middle of the order guy.
Brew88
Thats one of the best rotations in baseball and there are 55 games left.
sfjackcoke
Snell’s contract is back loaded, his CBT # is $29M so even if SF paid all the cash, it’s a $6M hit. SD has the room, for NYY that CBT means another $6M+ in taxes.
The opportunity cost for the NYY is Soto is under contract only for 2024, a Cole, Snell 1 & 2 is tantalizing. That said if Snell were to be injured and not opt out would really be damaging to NYY, not ideal for SD either.
The team where Snell makes the most sense is BAL. They don’t have CBT problems, they have the farm and like NYY, they have a star player in Burnes only under contract for 2024. Even better the opt out moves the prospect cost down however with NYY/SD in the bidding there will be a price to pay.
The only way Snell opts out is due to an injury that wipes his 2025 season out. Even then, I wonder what sort of 2yr guarantee he might get if injured that is greater than his $32M guarantee remaining on his deal, $15M which is deferred to 2026.
The x factor in all of this is SFG ownership, they HATE selling and giving up on season and will wish to be paid (prospects) accordingly to do so. They’d lose their window to continue to be able to negotiate with Snell who is a west coast (Seattle) guy. Of course SFG ownership’s thinking is why with the exception of 2021, the team is stuck “in the middle” of let’s call it 80 wins +/- 4. You’re not making the playoffs and you’re not drafting in the top 10 either.
Not a clever name
With the schedule they have left it’s not outside the realm of belief the giants could make the playoffs especially if snell and Ray pitch like they did this week. The offense is of course concerning but starting pitching which is what has been killing them just became as strength.
Simm
Your math is way wrong. He doesn’t have deferred money. He had a 17m signing bonus which is paid in 2026. That bonus cannot be transferred to another team so a team acquiring him will be on the hook for about 5m this year.
JoeBrady
$5M in cash.
1-Who pays the bonus in 2026?
2-For CBT purposes, doesn’t the acquiring team still have to pay on $31M prorated for the time with the club?
Simm
It was reported on here like 2 days ago that the signing bonus isn’t transferable. That the giants are on the hook the entire amount.
Pads Fans
If Snell exercises his player option for 2025, half of that $30 million is deferred to 2027.
The $17 million signing bonus would count towards the Giants CBT, not the team trading for Snell.
Candlestoked
No story here. Snell stays in SF because he’s too expensive to get much value in return. Plus the Giants caught fire right at the deadline. Click click click!
mikenedy
As a Giants fan he has more filthy stuff than Rodon and I loved Rodon. In order to get the Martian the Giants would have to include bullpen help in the form of Dotel or Ta.Rogers. I have gone though the Yankees farm system but I prefer Baltimore’s. Snell could very well be the difference maker and the Yankees have not won a Series in how long? S.Jones is not enough sorry its J.Dominguez or fogetta bout it.
chip1017
Played this before, still don’t like it
JoeBrady
Just a slightly different look.
1-I’d say that this year’s contract is quite good since most of his salary was a bonus, with the disclaimer that I don’t know if bonuses are prorated for CBT purposes.
2-But more importantly, what are the chances him opting out? As well as he’s pitching, I think he would. I’m guessing that if he could sign a future’s contract, it might look like maybe $80M/4.
That would make his 2025 salary a moot point.
Not a clever name
At 80/4 I can see the Giants going for an extension. If that’s is the case he doesn’t move.
Jean Matrac
Contract value, which includes bonuses, is what is computed for the tax. So the CBT hit for Giants is $32M. Whether the bonus part transfers to an acquiring team or not is the question. A google search came up lacking an answer to that.
I’m almost sure he’ll opt-out. Even if the AAV is lower than the $30M he’s owed, he’ll want/get more years. I don’t think he’ll want to gamble on re-entering free-agency in 2026, since he’ll be a year older, and 2025 might be a down year.
Simm
It was already reported that the signing bonus cannot be transferred. The Giants are on the hook for that bonus which is 17m due in 2026.

If he’s going to San Diego, the Pads better get Don Orsillo and Mark Grant on board with the idea. They propped him up when he was there before. The guy needs a pair of dads to keep his head in the game.
dubtastic
hilarious, IF Giants trade Snell to the Pads and Snell shuts SF down for the last playoff spot towards the end of the season!

CBT# is $29.7M for each of 2024 and 2025. It’s average value of deal after factoring in deferred $, there deferrals of not only the signing bonus but also $15M of the $38M salary in 2025. $38M is what Snell is leaving on the table if he opts out OR what teams would be on the hook for if they traded for him and he was injured.
His price went up with every Giants victory this weekend against COL.

Please don’t use Spotrac. They are useless.
Snell signed a 1 year, $32 million deal with a $17 million signing bonus to be paid 1/15/2026 and a $15 million salary for 2024 with a $30 million player option for 2025 and if he exercises that option
$15 million of that would be paid 7/1/27.
That is his official contract per MLB transactions.
The signing bonus would apply to the Giants CBT calculations regardless of whether he is traded or not.
Snell will get 100% of that signing bonus even if he opts out.
If Snell opts out he would be leaving exactly $30 million on the table.
Teams would be on the hook for $5 million in 2024 and exactly $30 million if he exercises his team option.
His price is exactly what it was before that start. Teams don’t make decisions or set values they are willing to pay based on one start.

“His price is exactly what it was before that start. Teams don’t make decisions or set values they are willing to pay based on one start.”
The price for every player is set by the market and the market is fluid, it’s dynamic and a market is two teams. Jason Adam’s value on the trade market wasn’t a recent Top 100 prospect + 2 more players. Preller just paid that price so now it is, even if no other team would have paid that price.
The circumstances of the buyer(s) and the seller(s) are perpetually in a state of change. The market for starters changed last week the moment Crochet said he won’t pitch in October without a contract extension. That alone changed Snell’s market because a top of the rotation arm whom everyone thought was available a cheap salary now has an unknown x factor attached. Market is supply AND demand, real time.
As for Snell, for a guy who has the complication of a opt out seeing a 4th high quality start can give a front office the confidence that he’s pitching like the 2023 Cy Young award winner. A team could look at his botched 1st half and think
“Great, he only has 47 IP YTD will be fresh well into October”.
In 2023 he tied his all time high of 180IP in 2023 and no there’s zero chance he even remotely approaches that total in 2024 which all things equal by some measure reduces his injury risk the rest of 2024.
MLBTR laid out the motivations of those teams interested in Snell and the common denominator is these aren’t teams trying to make the playoffs, they are teams with WS aspirations and each are setup to win now, BAL with Burnes, NYY with Soto in particular not to mention the easier path the winner of the AL East will have in the post season.

Please sell. This team has been in the exact same spot for 2 2/3rd seasons, below average. If Zaidi is making future decisions because of a series against the freaking Rockies we are more screwed than I thought. There is also zero chance Snell is a Giant next year so get something for him
