Glad to see Angels keeping the core together for another season of getting ragged by comments
brewsingblue82
I like how the description says “Brewers pitching needs” but it should’ve said “Rays pitching surplus”. A vast amount of the time was spent on the Rays. Like a minute about the Civale deal and then right into all talk about the Rays.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I was just dumbfounded to read that the Rays offered Aaron Judge $300 million back in 2022. Wowzers. I guess old Stu will flex his bankroll for the right player.
Karensjer
You must be mistaken. Pennybags $tu wouldn’t even give Aaron Hicks or Jason Heyward an offer even though they are so bad that they should pay whichever club signs them. With another Rays season like this one where the hover around .500 and probably miss the playoffs, everyone will be clued in that $tu is just a cheap ass owner like 90% of them and he never really cared about winning. How else can you explain them getting to the playoffs with a decent core but never adding any noteable free agents that would push them over the edge or how they make a trade for a grade D pitcher before the deadline when there were grade A ones up for grabs. Move the ballpark to Tampa or the Orlando area, sign some guys who will be decent additions and not question marks, extend star players, and you’ll win the World Series and fans will pack the ballpark and you’ll get your precious money back, $tu!!

Joey Gallo in exchange for nothing. It’s a fair trade.
AlBundysFanClubPresident
Except nothing seems like the better option.
BannedMarlinsFanBase
Can you throw in another player with Gallo to get that nothing?
Goku the Knowledgable One
Any updates on the Pirates working to acquire Taylor Ward ?
Stormintazz
I can see the Brewers doing basically the Civale deal a few more times. High up side otherwise very little interest from other teams. Plus the cost is little to nothing.
AlBundysFanClubPresident
Pretty much their standard approach every year. I still think it’s 50/50 that they move Adames..but it may depend on if he’s in the midst of a hot (or at least warm) streak at the plate.
gbs42
I can’t imagine they move Adames this season.
Stormintazz
I hope they move him. He’s such a streaky hitter. After he goes 3 for 4 he goes silent for a week.
gbs42
Stormin,
Who takes his place, and who could replace his production?
Stormintazz
This year ? No one.
I’d rather sacrifice the NL Central for a couple decent prospects by trading Adames and Hoskins. Hoskins can opt out after one year. Adames is not an elite SS but will get close to that money when he files FA.
gbs42
You’d give up a division title and shot at the team’s first championship for some prospects?
Stormintazz
Winning the NL Central? Yes I would give that up. Teams first championship? This team isn’t good enough to win a NL Championship as it sits. Starting pitching can only get to 5-6 innings. The bullpen is starting the breakdown from over use. Team as it sits is out in the first round. They will face the best starters from opponents. ……………..This coming from a guy who has lived and a lot of times died with them since 1970.
afsooner02
They’re not making a huge splash before the deadline. They might go get one more starter but it won’t be anyone massive.
Stormintazz
One starter doesn’t fix the Brewers problem. Other issue is the bullpen is starting to show cracks from over work first half.

Remember when Scott Boras announced the Nats were for sale?

He did not “announce’ anything. He made a statement of fact on something that was already widely known.

Mariners trading j.p. Is as unlikely as the angels trading trout, it just won’t happen despite the bumps in the road

Spot on analysis of the Angels. No one knows what their strategy is.
Halo11Fan
I think I know what the strategy is. I think Arte has an owner lined up. Right now the new owner is dictating who to trade, and next year that owner will work with a new GM, who can actually make good moves.
I don’t think Arte is driving anything. Arte’s biggest mistake is destroying the infrastructure of this team, signing guys like Rendon was not his biggest mistake.
prov356
I agree Halo. I said it before that during Moreno’s “exploration”, he lined up a buyer who agreed to wait a year before completing the deal. Moreno wanted every dime out of Ohtani before he dumped the team on someone.
Halo11Fan
Prov. Arte found a buyer on his own, he hired a team that was suppose to find a buyer, Arte did better, but the finders fee is still in effect.
Once the deadline expires, it will be official.
I don’t know when the deadline expires, but I think it’s sooner rather than later.
prov356
Hopefully soon. He needs to get out of baseball.

It hurts to say it, but Fried is a Dodger next season.

I feel like there are so many people that comment on the Marlins, but haven’t watched the games over the last few seasons…and it seems Bendix didn’t look at the tape coming in.
While a rebuild can be justified for them this year, I kind of have a problem with the ‘scorched earth’ type of rebuild for them. They have had the same issue for the last few years – lack of a legit Closer. They have spent the majority of games from the start of 2020 through now handing leads to their bullpen, that their bullpen essentially blows. It has been clear that when their bullpen holds the lead, they win…and both 2020 and 2023 shows they are a playoff contender for Wild Card spots.
They don’t have an old team. They have some decent to solid position players who are 28 and younger. It feels that, if the Marlins just keep the team together, and do what they have refused to do with acquiring a legit Closer, they’d be sorted out immediately to be back around .500 and playoff contention, and then can focus on the rest of the build of the team. This full rebuild feels more like Bendix guaranteeing job longevity more than doing what makes the most sense with where the team actually is with the players on its roster when he came aboard. And it showed a lack of paying attention to the fact of how poorly the bullpen started and has been this season. Seriously, they blew half of their games in the first few weeks to dig the hole they’ve gotten stuck in. That’s a bullpen problem…not a roster problem. If they would’ve brought in a LEGIT Closer and still kept losing, then it’s time for a ‘scorched earth’ rebuild. But they haven’t. They’re blaming the enitre team for the bullpen blowing leads they’re handed. The starting pitchers have done their job for the last few years. The lineup, even during struggles, have scored enough to give leads to the bullpen. It’s the bullpen that needs a ‘scorched earth’ rebuild. Not the entire roster.
And the players are young enough that, by the time we need to replace them, you should have had a few years to have drafted better to strengthen the farm from where it has fallen to.
None of this makes sense to me. And I add, and still say, trading Arraez was a boneheaded move and clearly a tonedeaf move as well.
Are we really doing a ‘scorched earth’ rebuild with a roster of key, solid pieces that are 28 years old and younger? That’s just plain stupid. I’d love to hear some discussions about that instead of sticking to one side of what large markets fan bases prefer to hear. Give the POV of informed Marlins fans that see how ridiculous this is. Think about it! A ‘scroched earth’ rebuild with a team that made the playoffs last year, and so many players that are 28 years old and younger! This isn’t a team full of guys on the wrong side of 30. A ‘scorched earth’ rebuild for this team is just plain stupid!
baseball_is_boring
It’s all ng’s fault.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Sir, how do you explain then Miami having the 4th highest bullpen WAR in baseball and every contending team and their mother wants Tanner Scott. But you’re saying they have no bullpen and it’s their greatest weakness. That’s not really jiving with the numbers, is it??
UKPhil
Hi Ignorant, I just took a few minutes to check some numbers.
By the 16th April Scott was 0-3 with 2 Saves. The defeats were ugly and in the 2 Saves, Scott issued 5 walks. I believe this traumatized BMFB
In May, the month the Marlins went 14-13, the rotation actually managed to pull their weight and pitch over 5 innings per game. In response to this, the bullpen was very good, and Tanner Scott was brilliant.
After May, the rotation crumbled again, the bullpen got stressed and Scott lost a couple more games
For the whole of the season to date the Marlins Offence has been between 28th and 30th in pretty well all offensive categories.
The Marlins have been a frustrating team to follow this season. As of this moment, the team is 32-60, but are winning in extra inning games 8-5 and one run games, 15-13
Go figure
BannedMarlinsFanBase
@Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I love when someone who goes based on stats and tries to debate a fan of the team that watches what’s happening with their team every single time.
Tanner Scott is fool’s gold, but I love the fact that people like you who don’t see him play will love for your team to give the Marlins a good trade return for him.
Feel free to debate us Marlins fans about Tanner Scott and the rest. I will enjoy the return we get for Scott. Every Marl;ins fan will. Then the fans from the acquiring team (hopefully your team) can see firsthand what us Marlins fans see.
And @UKPhil, Tanner Scott is like what we had with Kevin Gregg many years ago. When the games mean something, he usually melts, except for a good groove once in awhile. For the most part, this year is exactly a Kevin Gregg type of season in that Scott started pitching well after he and the rest of the bullpen blew the season apart in the first couple of weeks when they blew everything in sight. Marlins were out of it by May 1st, so of course Scott started pitching well. He had no pressure.
And to both of you. When you get to see Tanner Scott pitch in a high leverage situation in meaningful games, watch his eyes and body language. You’ll see it. You’ll then see why you have to watch the games instead of depending solely on stats. Us Marlins fans have seen it with him for his entire time with us.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Mr. Marlins Fan, I wasn’t trying to pick a fight with you or attack you or give the impression that Tanner Scott is the answer to every contender’s prayers. I just wanted to highlight the discrepancy between how the metrics view the Marlins pen & your more dire assessment of it as a fan. (I did watch the Marlins close this year and last when my Mariners played them, and those were some tough games.)(P.S. no I don’t want Tanner but what is your assessment of Chisholm as a possible trade target for M’s?)
BannedMarlinsFanBase
@Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Ok, understood. But trust me. Every Marlins fan will tell you and agree that “Fool’s Gold” is a perfect description of Tanner Scott.
With Jazz, I personally don’t want him traded, but I didn’t want Arraez traded either. It’s insane that we’re doing a full rebuild with a team whose key players are all 28 years old and younger…and made the playoffs last year.
So, with Jazz, he’s not a Superstar, but a good to All Star caliber player. He’s been a decent performer on offense, but inconsistent at times. Defensively, he’s been okay in CF, but still a work in progress. The challenge with Jazz is his lack of maturity. His maturity issues are what has kept him from harnessing the use of all his tools – which could make him a perrenial All Star with Superstar performance. Maybe playing with the Mariners alongside Julio Rodriguez can challenge him. Who knows? Jazz would be a good addition to any contender. You just can’t depend on him producing as a core player, but more as a good supporting piece. But if he ever matures and taps into all those tools, he can be a top tier player. If the Mariners can get him to add with Rodriguez, I’d do it in a hearbeat, just to have those two types of young talents on their team together.
Karensjer
They could stand pat during the deadline, and with some of these injured starters coming back, their rotation might not need too much work.
The Tigers did a nice rebuild in 2003-2005 with a nice crop of rookies and some keen free agent signings, a number of them big name guys. The Marlins have solid young guys like Meyer, Garrett, Chisholm, Scott, Cabrera, Puk, and if they sign a few big name free agents to fill holes, have injury luck, they could do the same thing like those Tigers teams and contend pretty quickly.
Old York
The Brew Crew need to talk to the Blue Jays about acquiring some of their pitchers.
Problem solved!
JimOToole
Yup. Kikuchi or Bassitt would be useful, or Tyler Anderson of the Angels. The Brewers have a handful of decent prospects who are blocked or approaching the Rule 5 draft, so they can afford to swap them for pitching help, specifically a lefty starter.
jvent
What would Miami want for Tanner Scott and Chisholm from the Mets ? Would Baty , Tidwell, Alex Ramirez and a SS prospect do it ? Mets can put Jazz at 2b.
PhilliesFan91
Philly needs to go get Tanner Scott then an outfielder like Rooker or Robert Jr
SoCalBrave
Can Rooker actually play the outfield? asking for a friend
