I feel like if the Tigers win 10 games between now and the deadline, they’ll have a tough decision to make. I think Flaherty is traded, regardless of how many wins they get. His value is far too high to turn down. What makes the most sense is a swapping Flaherty for a MLB ready bat in a scenario that helps both teams. Jack has a QO, so any team that signs him will get a prospect back if they make a qualifying offer.
Fun to talk about the Tigers trading Skubal to the Os, because it would mean Elias finally understands that windows don’t stay open forever, regardless of having 7 great prospect infielders.
If they trade Mayo, you will know they are all in. I suspect they will hold on and lose in the playoffs this year because Dean Kremer has to start an important game, and they are scrambling in the off-season because Burnes is gone and they’re even more desperate for SP.
I would like to see teams wear their City Connect uniforms in the ASG. Those without – NYY, Oakland – can wear a home or away jersey depending on the location of the game – NL or AL city.
Angels – Interesting, I didn’t know those two teams don’t have City Connect uniforms. I can understand the Yankees because they are big on tradition, buy why not the Athletics?
BTW – Tonight’s AL uniforms couldn’t be more ugly.
brodie – Yeah, you’re right …. I was thinking the City Connects have been around for many years, but now I realize it’s been only 3 years and I’m sure they knew in 2021 they were moving.
The Tigers aren’t trading Skubal unless you make the trade Skubal. When I say make them I mean if Harris is called by Elias and Elias says we are going to give you Holliday, Mayo and a couple of kickers then said team is forcing you to trade him, in other words it isn’t happening. The fantasy land that some Orioles fans live in where they say we can get him and we don’t have to begin the trade with one of Holliday, Mayo, or Basallo is just that fantasy land. I don’t think the Orioles are getting Crochet without one of their big three but obviously Crochet is more gettable than Skubal is.
1. I think if the Tigers even seriously considered trading Skubal at this time they would lose what’s left of the fanbase they’re trying to build back up. It’s a fantasy to think their FO people even would consider it short of the Yankees offering them Aaron Judge and agreeing to pay 95% of his salary.
2. Mike Elias helped build the Cardinals and Astros teams that were sustainable contenders and won World Series’. I don’t think a poster on an Internet chatroom needs to straighten him out. And I doubt said poster has a clue as to what the O’s long-term plans were, where they are in them, and what if any adjustments they’re making.
@samuel – Elias was a scout for the cards and assistant to the gm during the Astros run. How does that give you any inclination how aggressive he’ll be trading prospects? As of now, he has shown reluctance to do that with the Os, and while they’ve built a great regular season team they’ve shown nothing in the postseason.
My opinion is simply that windows are never open as long as you think, so you need to go for it when you have a weakness and a ridiculously stacked farm system.
Trading draft picks should’ve been done long ago. The arguments against it are silly and never made sense. The way smaller markets trade expiring major leaguers for prospects shows how draft picks will be valued by most small markets.
Nerd – The arguments are valid and based on experiences with other sports.
What has often happened is teams that were poorly run ended up with bad records, which meant high draft picks. But instead of using those high draft picks to rebuild with core longterm players, those poorly run teams traded their high draft picks for marginally good established players that a few years later declined or left.
Kinda defeats the purpose of awarding high draft picks to bad teams, now doesn’t it?
That’s total BS FPG. That hasn’t happened often at all. What’s happened far more often is losing teams have selected those high draft picks and tried to develop through the draft.
This whole “protect teams from themselves” argument has been flawed from the start. If a team wants to trade its picks, they should be allowed to take that gamble.
What’s with the Guardians fans who want to offer up their injured and poor performing prospects for major league talent ? George Valera for Rooker? Daniel Espino for Quantrill and Diaz?? I am wondering if these were actual real people asking those questions or if Steve made them up to make Guardians fans look bad.

Longtimecoming
Pretty sure if he is traded he no longer qualifies for QO. Being on a teams roster all year is one of the requirements.

That is correct, LongTimecoming.

The a’s probably won’t get a city connect jersey until the move to Vegas is complete.

Seriously doubt Orioles POBO Elias is interested in acquiring Crochet or Skubal. One’s on a season ending innings count and the other one should be.

10 wins by the deadline? They only have 12 games before the deadline.
Their longest win streak this season is 5 games (the first 5 games of the season). They haven’t won more then 4 in a row since then.
It’s a pretty safe bet they aren’t winning 10 of the next 12.

It would be a mistake if the Royals brought back Merrifield.
