Major League Baseball announced the starting lineups for the 2024 All-Star Game this evening. The starting lineups are determined by fan vote. Starting pitchers and reserves, which are determined by a combination of player vote and the league office, will be announced on Sunday. Each team will eventually get at least one All-Star. 10 teams had at least one starter. The Phillies, which have three-quarters of the NL’s starting infield, lead the way.
The game will be played at Texas’ Globe Life Field on July 16.

No Cubs? Guess all that pleading for votes struck out. Mostly like the Cub hitters do.
What no Halos? It was rigged!
Logan O’Hoppe, Tyler Anderson, Carlos Estevez, and Luis Rengifo are the only ones with any sort of shot.
@Unclemike1526
Bear market for Cubs hitters.
You’d think they’d get embarrassed walking back and forth between the Batters Box and the dugout but they never seem to. The Grounds crew must get tired or resodding it after each home stand..
Um
Cubs 8th in K%
Mike Imanaga II is gonna start the game. Or at least he should.
Imanaga and his translator will be the only Cubs going.
I think Ranger Suarez is the NL starter if it gives him enough rest.
White Sox Erick Fedde just gave the 1st place Cleveland Indians 6 innings giving up just 1 run. The Erick Fedde All-Star chatter is getting louder. ERA now 3.13. He is signed through 2025 at $7.5 million per. Trade price is going up by the day. Farm system about to add some unexpected studs from Fedde.
LOL.
Very Barry: Crochet would get picked before Fedde depending, of course, on what the AL needs. After Crochet, I can’t think of another Sox player that deserves to go.
He is gonna get popped for doctoring, as his newfound success is clearly due to his Sfedde balls
Shota might be the only Cub this year
Every team had to have one player rep the all star game. He’s the only one who earned it.
And I’m betting the Cubs would rather he stayed home.
I also find it hilarious that Counsell has basically decided to refuse to play Hoyer’s stewbums anymore and is basically playing with no reserves. Bote, Wisdom, Mastrobuoni basically sit and rot and who can really blame him. Since Hoyer refuses to get rid of them and at least bring up somebody else he’s just going to go down in flames and basically give him the finger. It’s not like he’s gonna get fired.
All 3 are just wasted roster spots. It’s really pathetic. Yesterday and today he did use them. They went 1 for 3. Then the cubs as I’m sure you know, had a fake rally again.
The AL is a much better team.
Have they announced pitching yet? If not there is no way to tell who the better team is as pitching is important.
Is the al still winning most the time. I haven’t watched a all star game since I was 12 years old.
NL won last season and broke a nine-game losing streak. The NL has won just four games since winning the 1996 game.
I voted for Willie Mays. Even dead he was better than anybody on the Cubs.
That’s a brutal and odds defying stretch unless there is a reason the AL plays harder or something.
It’s going to be interesting if the DH in both leagues changes that trend.
Don’t think it mattered. Actually would have helped the NL as AL pitchers didn’t bat as often. Not that they weren’t pinch hit for. Did the NL teams only have 8 good bats and couldn’t find a 9th guy who could hit? I don’t think it factored in significantly. Even if NL just said forget the DH we are using pitchers to hit, 1 lineup spot at #9 shouldn’t allow the AL to dominate like that.
Anyone know if the NL ever had a stretch of dominance or if AL had another stretch in the past?
Streaks like this have occurred before, although this one is the worst.I am going by memory and I think the game started in 1933 and the AL dominated into the 50’s,where it balanced for 8 years or so,then the NL was dominant for 20 years.Mid 80’s to mid 90’s it was balanced again.
The bullpen will be filled with Cubs relievers!
Everyone in the Home Run Derby should choose Hayden Wesneski to pitch to them.
Hendricks.
He said shut up and he’s going to be back soon.
I don’t know if trea turner deserves to be on the team. He’s missed a lot of time.
Yeah, Betts has twice the bWAR (4.1 v. 2.0; or 3.4 fWAR v. 2.0 fWAR) that Turner does in 34% more games played, but Mookie had the misfortune of when he got injured.
Did Dodgers fans stop voting when he got injured?
And others, sure. Out of sight, out of mind.
Hard to argue with those choices.
But people will.
I feel like I don’t care about the all star game enough to really care.
TAS; agree, doesn’t have the same appeal anymore since inter league play started.
Ever since the fans started voting it’s a big joke. Look it used to be a nice payday for the players and now guys tip more than they get for playing in it. Or at least they should.
It’s not nearly as bad as the years where a Bo Bichette or Austin Riley would win the vote despite stinking it up.
What season did Riley “stink it up” in?
this year- his point being that name alone was enough in past votes- guys getting voted in while having terrible years since they were big names.
All deserving.
What a season Aaron Judge is having… on pace for 11-12 WAR.
Judge is the best player in MLB right now. It’s incredible.
Gunnar’s nipping at his heels.
Top 5 AL by fWAR
6.1 Aaron Judge
6.0 Gunnar Henderson
5.0 Juan Soto
4.9 Bobby Witt Jr.
3.6 Jarren Duran
4 of the top 5 on 3 different teams in the AL East.
Never easy in the East.
That last time we had a 12-fWAR player was Bonds in ’01 & ’02, just put his season in perspective. And right now we have 2 on-pace for 12 (Judge, Gunnar).
And the last time before that that there was a 12-fWAR player? How about 1927 when there were 2…on the same team: Ruth (12.9) & Gehrig (12.4) from Murderer’s Row.
One of those years where you hope a 3B or SS would make it over a 2B. Devers and Witt will make it but Devers-Witt-Ramirez-Henderson all have close to a 100pts higher in OPS then Altuve
It’s a good thing ops isn’t everything then.
Your correct Henderson-Witt-Ramriez-Devers all have over a 3 WAR…Altuve has a 2.6
Ok ok. I’ll take ops over war.
What about veteran presence though. Like if the NL is cheating who better to have detect it than buzz light year himself?
Again this is not a knock Altuve. It’s just crazy how 4 players are having an insane season and you can only chose 2 to start when in reality speaking all 4 can also play 2B. Devers and Witt should and will make it and Altuve does deserve the nod.
OPS+
You can make the same argument that Judge or Soto *could* play 1B and slot in an extra outfielder. The fans have spoken.
WAR is used to compare fielders with pitchers and includes fielding.
Not that you did not know that.
I hate the Astros but Altuve is having a legitimately good season and he’s a 2B. He deserves to be there.
I’d imagine some of those players will make the team, but fans get first say in who the starters are and there’s nothing wrong with that even if they don’t pick the guys with the best stats every time.
Profar making the ASG is neat.
Can’t speak for the AL but Turner at SS for NL is just not a good pick. De La Cruz and Abrams should have got the nod over Turner. Also feel like NL outfield could have been any combination of like 6-7 guys but personally don’t feel Tatis deserves the spot.
Bobby Witt Jr was totally robbed
Witt is having a great year but Gunnar has been even better. Witt should be the backup though
Not really.
Bobby Witt 145 wRC+, 4.9 fWAR
Gunnar Henderson 176 wRC+, 6.0 fWAR
Witt’s having a great year.
Henderson has simply been astonishing
According to wRC+ and Fwar, the entire AL lineup is exactly what it should be. All 9 guys are the best at their position.
The NL isn’t quite as right.
Will Smith has been fractionally better at catcher, but Contreras isn’t far off.
Mookie Betts has been a better SS. It’s not close
Nimmo probably should have been the 3rd OF over Tatis Jr. It’s close, but Nimmo has been a little better.
Turner at SS over Betts is the one really bad miss, at least according to the metrics
If it’s close, majority of fans watching the all star game would rather see ringworm as he is the bigger known name.
You know Betts is hurt, right?
He can still voted as the starter and then they just get a replacement. His performance justified the starting nod.
Betts is hurt but Abrams or De la Cruz would still be better picks than Turner.
Yes, I recall reading a similar comment earlier by someone named Gmen777.
I doubt Tati plays anyways. Hopefully his spot goes to Nimmo
Solution: stop letting fans vote.
Why? What’s the impact of a few mistakes?
There needs to be a problem first.
It’s an exhibition game. No solution is needed.
Why? It is a exhibition game. Entertainment.
Fans did a good job except for Vlad and Tatis.
Sorry and Turner
Phillies fans stuff the ballot box.
@Mendoza Line 215 So can A’s fans, all three of them.
Any team can also
Of course but it is a big advantage to your players if you have lots and lots of fans attending every game.
It does but you can vote on line also. Votes are not just from game. All teams encourage fans to go online and vote.
Vladdy has a 144 wRC+ and 1.9 fWAR
Josh Naylor has a 127 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR
Ryan Mountcastle has a 120 wRC+ and 1.1 fWAR
Vladdy has been the best 1b in the AL this year. It’s not really close.
He had a slow start but has turned it on.
They forgot Stanton,, to be the
Batboy
Probably get hurts again
So Guerrero made it based off of the last week?
Boooorrrriiiing!
Would love if the players got to wear thier team jerseys. Not the ugly ones they have worn the last couple years.
That NL lineup is horrible.
Poor Duran. Worthy, but wrong year.
NL should romp.
Will Smith has been the most consistent (best) offensive catcher (OPS+) since he came into the league and leads all catchers in WAR in that same timeframe, and this year leads in throwing runners out attempting to steal. He deserves to be in, especially if J.T. is still hurt when the game comes.
JT will begin to get worn down in the next couple of years and DD needs to get a better backup for him since it will not be a game or two every week anymore.
No LeBron? Then it’s worthless.
The MLB All star game is absolutely the most worthless endeavor in the history of sports. I’m going to skip this yawnfest.
AL:
Second Base: Jordan Westburg – Better wRC+ and defense.
Outfield: Good selections but Jarren Duran should be on the roster as well.
NL:
Catcher: Good pick for catcher but I do hope Will Smith is on the team.
Shortstop: Elly De La Cruz should have been selected. His offense, defense and fWAR are significantly better than Turner. Only thing going for Tuner is the wRC+.
Outfield: Good choices but I hope Jackson Merrill is selected to the team.
Astros have 2 starters? Those new trash cans and buzzers are starting to pay off ahead of schedule.
Heliot Ramos of the Giants needs to be there.
