Find virtually any primer for the 2024 trade deadline and you'll see Jesus Luzardo's name at or near the top of the discussion. He's probably even the feature image on many of those pieces. It's not hard to see why. A hard-throwing 26-year-old lefty with two seasons of club control beyond the current campaign and big strikeout abilities is always going to be in demand. And the Marlins, sitting at 23-48 on the season, have effectively been out of postseason contention since the second week of the season. A 1-12 start to the year will do that to you.
Luzardo might be the most talked-about name on the trade market this summer and has a far better chance to move than your standard prime-aged starting pitcher with two-plus seasons of club control. The Marlins already traded Luis Arraez in early May, after all. They're clearly open for business.
Nearly everything I just said about Luzardo applies to another lefty on the opposite coast. And yet for all the Luzardo chatter we've already heard and will continue to hear, the trade buzz between the two southpaws doesn't align.

Jesus Luzardo is not changing any team this season he hasn’t been good he might be good in the future.
I Believe We Can Win
He most likely gets moved
So many teams in contention. Starting pitching always at a premium. Teams will bank on his last 2 years worth of work from the Marlins hoping they can get a bit of a discount and fix him.
Definitely think Cleveland makes sense.
Juan Brito INF
George Valera OF,
Jhonkensy Noel
Will Dion.
Guard the Vogt
That’s probably not going to do it for Luzardo… I would be very happy tho if that did it for Cleveland

You’re right. For some reason I thought he had 1 year left after this. He’s got 2 more arb years.
Rsox
Anderson will almost certainly be available and does come with a year of control so the Angels have a decent trade chip there
Rexhudler86
@rsox the only hold up is his salary 13 million might be to much for teams over the Tax threshold and to much for the smaller market teams. With that being said the orioles might be a match. It’s a good backup plan if burnes leaves, and they have alot of infield prospects angels could use.

the gm being optimistic about the team’s long-term outlook tells me everything I need to know about this org

I don’t follow the Marlins. At all. Could someone explain to me, aside from control, why teams are allegedly drooling over a guy with a 3-6, 5.00 ERA record? I guess I would understand if they had him pegged as a 4-5 back-end starter, but you’d think the guy was Corbin Burnes the way he’s talked about.
JoeBrady
He should be better than his numbers, but I wouldn’t give up a premium prospect for him. He’s already been on the IL with elbow issues, and has a 12/8 K/W in his last four starts, in 21 IPs.
I’d be real suspicious that he is not 100% healthy.
nukeg
Both he and Sandoval: Healthy. Young. Lefty. Club control.
