The Tigers and Athletics have both announced that Detroit has claimed left-hander Easton Lucas off waivers. Lucas will be optioned to the Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate in Toledo. In the corresponding move, the Tigers have also designated right-hander Ty Adcock for assignment.
It was a quick stay on the waiver wire for Lucas, as the Athletics only just designated him for assignment two days ago. The 27-year-old has only nine MLB appearances since debuting last season with Oakland, and the results have been rough even within that small sample size. Lucas has a 10.45 ERA in his 10 1/3 career innings, with an ungainly 12.1% walk rate and only a decent 22.4% strikeout rate. The A’s chose to outright Lucas after last season, and he remained in the organization after clearing waivers.
While the numbers in the Show haven’t been much to look at, Lucas does have a 4.37 ERA in 45 1/3 career frames at the Triple-A level. That ERA is quite solid considering that Lucas has spent most of that Triple-A with the Athletics’ affiliate in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, and he has been particularly impressive with a 2.87 ERA in 15 2/3 Triple-A innings in 2024. His strikeout totals since arriving in Triple-A have been below average, after Lucas recorded many more whiffs in the lower minors.
To make room for Lucas, Detroit has moved on from Adcock just a month after claiming him off waivers from the Mariners. Adcock was an eight-round pick for Seattle in the 2019 draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2023 with 15 2/3 innings of 3.45 ERA ball over 12 appearances out of the Mariners’ bullpen. Adcock has yet to allow a walk at the big league level and he had good base-on-ball numbers in the minors prior to this season, when his walk rate suddenly spiked up to 13.63% in 8 1/3 innings with the Tigers’ and Mariners’ Triple-A affiliates.
The small sample size caveat applies again, and it should be noted that this is Adcock’s first time in Triple-A, as the Mariners promoted him from Double-A Arkansas last season without the benefit of any exposure at the top of the minor league ladder. With an 8.64 ERA in Triple-A thus far, obviously Adcock has some adjustments to make, but those could possibly come in yet another organization if the righty is claimed again.

The internet will break if Tampa Bay Rays claim Ty.
“Rays sign Lovelady, Adcock”

Unlike it broke when the Tigers traded Furbush for Fister a decade ago?

I guess they see something in him. The latest depth piece to be picked up and I’m sure they will grab another and try to sneak him down to AAA. It worked out well last year with Tyler Holton so even if they claim 10 guys and only one pans out it is worth it.
Motor City Beach Bum
Since Greenberg came on board they have not made a real misstep.the Canha signing was solid, as was Flaherty. Maeda hasn’t been great so far. Bringing Perez up and sending Meadows down was the right call. The pitching decisions (starters and bullpen) they made coming out of spring training have worked out well. More needs to be done with the offence. Make some trades or fi d at bats for Malloy and swap out Leonard and Kreidler for Baez when he gets back from the IL. Hinch is a great coach.

After scoring 13 runs last night, I would not be surprised to see Zac Gallen no-hit these hitless wonders tonight…
gbs42
They scored 13 runs and you call them hitless wonders. Interesting.
Motown is My Town
gbs….Did you notice they got shut out 2 games, as in TWO games, in a row by the Miami Marlins earlier this week who supposedly are the worst team in baseball or did you miss that?
Plus they’ve lost a ton of games 2-1 and 1-0. This team’s offense is offensive or are you missing that too?
The 13 runs they scored last night was out of nowhere so with their track record I would not be surprised if they didn’t score 13 more runs the rest of this month.
Very sad state of affairs but what Boy Wonder Harris predicted and is getting
WestVillageTiger
They average 7 runs plus per game when Skubal pitches, but fewer than 2 per for Olson and Flaherty. Go figure!
But at least they play better on the road…
tigerfan4ever
Agreed. It’s hard to know which Tiger team will show up. We’ll see. I do say though last night’s was fun to watch and seeing Skubal continue his dominance whenever he pitches, is great. It’s awesome to hear his name in early Cy Young discussions.
Motor City Beach Bum
Their top 4 starters match up with almost anyone. Skubal rocks!
Motown is My Town
Olson and Mize should be suing the offense for lack of support…hard to watch such great pitching being wasted so often
tigerfan4ever
I agree. Olson is setting all time MLB records for lack of run support. It’s just downright a crime that he’s got a 2.09 ERA and is 0-4. I wish the Tigers could bottle up the offensive explosion from last night and gift some of that to Olson. Mize is getting some run support but has been betrayed by the defense and/or bullpen. Flaherty to a lesser extent has been a victim as well.
tigerfan4ever
lol yep, a Zac Gallen no no.

I know it’s like a blind squirrel finding a nut or a broken clock being right two times every day… this is the Tigers scitzoprentic offense we get to put up with this year
tigerfan4ever
The two games in AZ were as much fun to watch than the homestand vs. Houston and Miami wasn’t. I’ve not given up on my preseason prediction of 83-79, but I’d love to see more consistency out of this team’s offense. The starting staff has been really impressive through 45 games, except Maeda. Bullpen mostly has been solid, but I get nervous when Lange is pitching in high leverage. I can’t say that much on the rare days there is a Wentz sighting, so Alex is definitely the only real weak link there.
hook316
Another great signing by Harris. Give Tigers the pennant. Still no hitters…
gotigers68
……the fact that the front office knew (along with the rest of us), that they couldn’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag, and did nothing……
And now we’re left to pulling our hair out, most nights…..
tigerfan4ever
I’m not ready to throw Harris or Greenberg under the bus. They’re learning on the fly (think about how recent they started their prospective jobs. The inexperience of the two wasn’t going to turn this team around overnight, like so many on this board expected them to) and are under orders of Chris Ilitch, whose money they’re spending. He needs to loosen the purse strings a bit. I knew there would be growing pains for the two, but maybe if he’d allocated more money for the Tigers, they could’ve attracted a FA hitter or two and the offense woes might not be nearly as bad. He’s put too much stock on the homegrown players who like Meadows and possibly Keith couldn’t take that pressure.
warnbeeb
Agree. Watching Keith, you can tell he’s going to hit. Jackson Holiday was sent down. Keith is still here and it’s going to pay off.
Honestly, it’s Torkelson, Baez, Urshela and whoever is catching.
The pitching is fine.
Carpenter is just getting started. I bet he makes the All Star team this year.
tigerfan4ever
Carp is indeed getting re-started, but not to AS status. My bet would be on Skubal and Olson making with Greene as a dark horse…Skub should be the starter if he continues on his trajectory. Keith had a great night last night and has had his share of bad luck, but the power he has in the minors, just hasn’t translated to the bigs so far. I think the Tigers will be extra patient with him, hoping the luck turns around soon. They also can wait because they have Ibanez that can play second with some power and hitting for average.
Motor City Beach Bum
Perez, Canha, Carp, Ibanez, Vierling and Greene have been solid. Tork and Rogers have been improving. Keith’s stats should be better…he’s been unlucky according to one article. Baez needs to go. They still need more improvement from Tork, Keith, Rogers and Baez or a big bat or two if they want to be playoff bound. The pitching is good enough.
tigerfan4ever
I just read tonight’s chat, congratulations MCBB for getting a question answered! I had one answered a few years ago. It’s not an easy feat as they literally get thousands of submissions. I love how Mark answered the question by saying the Tigers might be a fit for Rooker from the A’s.
Motor City Beach Bum
Thanks dude. I’d much prefer cloning Kirk Gibson but I guess Rooker is an interesting bat. I’m not sure where they would put him though. It would seem to block someone else if they got him: Tork at 1B; Canha/Carp at DH/OF; Greene and Perez.
I’m not sure how they could call up Meadows or Malloy if they got Rooker either.
I’d prefer they go after a SS, even with Baez starting to hit a little, or a 3B but I don’t see it happening. Maybe they could target a solid multipositional player like Jazz Chisholm or old friend Isaac Paredes.
tigerfan4ever
Malloy is out with an undisclosed injury. He’s not on the MiLB IL as of yet, however. I’m not convinced we’ll see Meadows back for a while. Also, I’m not sold on Baez. He traditionally does well at Chase Field, I’ll need a larger sample size to see whether he is got things figured out. Regarding Chisholm and Parades, sure they’d be better fits for the Tigers but are they even going to be available? Of course, the Marlins are beginning to tear things down, but to the point of a fire sale? Too early for the Rays to, as they still could easily be in the wild card race at the deadline.
Motor City Beach Bum
True about the Ray’s but they have a talent for mixing and matching on the fly like the Glasnow for Pepiot trade and the terrible Meadows for Paredes trade. He is their best hitter right now though. I read on article that suggested Florida might look at trading Chisholm. He’s not Bendux’s guy so he might not be too attached to him and Bendix sure knows the TB way of doing things.
tigerfan4ever
The Meadows trade was good at the time. Neither team knew what was coming with his mental health. Such a tragedy. Also, who knew Parades was going to blossom into the player he did? He wasn’t very good here. Change of scenery for him. Very true on how the Rays seem to compensate for lost players, they and the Indians seem to do that.
The Tigers and Marlins have matched up often in the past. Miggy, Sanchez, Infante’s return to Detroit, were the notable ones so I wouldn’t put it past them to do it again.
Motor City Beach Bum
Yeah I cheered when they made the Meadows trade but I never thought they gave Paredes enough of an extended opportunity either. Having said that I don’t think anyone would have predicted the breakout he had last year and Meadows Tigers career ending up how it did.
tigerfan4ever
I wish Austin the best. That trade looked at the time like the Tigers were the winners but as you said nobody could’ve predicted the outcome.
Motor City Beach Bum
They should hire you as the coach with your vast knowledge of fantasy baseball (like the fantasy in your head). They could save some money and just fire the whole staff because you know everything. I’m sure you think they should fire Chris Fetter too. Hell in your narcissistic little brain Colavito you probably think they should just replace the whole team with you. Go away!
Motor City Beach Bum
Thanks for illustrating my point that you are nuts. Good luck finding ANYONE on here who agrees with your take on Chris Fetter! You seem unable to talk with other humans without beating your chest like an ape. Go away.
jammin464_
I just can’t see the Hinch-bashing….I don’t always agree with some of his moves, but to wring that many wins out of such bad-to-mediocre clubs the last 3 years has been impressive. Like a magician, I can”t tell how he did it.. Kudos to Chris Fetter, too!
tigerfan4ever
I agree. With the exception of 2022, he’s had this team on an upward trajectory. I don’t agree with some of his moves either but which manager is perfect, not Sparky nor Leyland and Fetter has been amazing, especially this being his first job in professional baseball. Bringing Hinch aboard is one of the few good moves Al Avila made during his tenure. But because he and Harris haven’t turned the ballclub around overnight, they get mercilessly bashed, with no real rationale behind it. Sure, they only won 78 games last year but would these haters want 2019 redux? 114 losses was insufferable, 84 last year was much better and if they win five more than last year, well, we’ve got ourselves a team with a winning record. There is alot to look forward to, especially if they can have a productive trade deadline and offseason.
Motor City Beach Bum
You are crazy.
The Saber-toothed Superfife
Tiger fans, the goal is not, “to have a winning record” or “a good off-season” or “trade deadline”…..IT’S TO WIN A WORLD SERIES!
Holy Toldeo, what is wrong with you people…..? I know you can’t hear me. You are all powerful with your little mute buttons. Never have to face a fact, never hear an opinion other than your own.
Could a had a V-8.
Should have hired…..
tigerfan4ever
Yes….the goal is to win the World Series, but it must start with acquiring players to do that with this current roster. Winning season comes first, then get good enough to make the playoffs, then World Series. It’s all a process. But yeah let’s hire the Superfife and the Tigers will go 140-22 and undefeated in this year’s postseason.

Ty Alcock is a better pitcher than Easton Lucas but the idea is to give the impression you’re actually working.

What’s with all the anger and hatred?
tigerfan4ever
Tigers optioned Alex Lange and brought up Mason Englert. It’s about time! Hinch said it has nothing to do with Lange’s temper tantrum yesterday. They want him in Toledo to try to find the strike zone again. As I said before, Lange is the only weak link in the pen. Englert, being the Tigers Rule 5 pick last season, probably won’t see much high leverage innings, unless he proves himself to deserve them.
