I hoped to see a “Bauer signs” post on MLBTR yesterday. C’est la vie.

Why? Hank Bauer isn’t around any more, alas.

MLB takes a dim view of any employee who is into
sadism during sex because fans. Consenting adults are free to enjoy what they like in private but it better stay private. His sex life is no longer private…..

Maybe, but HoF and MLB are old boy’s clubs. Like Field of Dreams when they didn’t invite Ty Cobb back because no one could stand him (a movie, I get it), they’re not interested in letting Bauer back in b/c he’s burned so many bridges and no one is convinced that anything will be different…even if he’s playing for free. Someone still has to stick their neck out for him. For some front offices, there’s more to lose than to gain. And that’s not even considering a perceived blow back from the fan base – regardless of his innocence. Kangaroo courts are always in-session.

Padres underfunded this year and it’s showing.
No rotation depth…Snell, Wacha, Lugo losses showing
Missing Soto in the lineup.
Shaky middle relief…missing Martinez
Catching depth, I mean Sanchez would be wonderful, cather/DH.
Thus team is thin on depth.

I am not entirely sure if Pham is the better player than Profar. Especially since Profar might be uniquely suited to playing well in SD for some magical reason. He is also great in the clubhouse in SD. Pham might be great in the clubhouse for a different reason, as in he is more of a hardnosed guy who holds people accountable to a higher standard.
Pham has a higher career WAR, over 3x what Profar has weirdly. But at this point in their careers they are about even, and also largely unpredictable. Profar is better at defense and definitely more versatile.
Also, Profar is cheaper having signed for $1mm, which Pham wouldn’t have. But the $3-4mm Pham is asking for is still chump change for a MLB team.

Sounds like Steve Adams has a gambling problem?
Should he hire an interpreter? Just in case?
