Oh Mark, you and your crazy Cardinal optimism.
The Cards aren’t going to sniff 91 wins.
And they’re not going to fire anybody important.
There was nothing surprising about Marmol’s extension. Mo was making sure Marmol would be around in 2025 no matter what happens this year.
The writing is on the wall. No reason to be surprised by any of it.
Gwynning
As a fan of the game in general, I have recently begun to feel bad for you guys and the Red Sox. Peaks and valleys. Well, there’s always room on the Padre Wagon if you’re secretly rooting for Schildt to have some fun this year! Aloha Donnie
DonOsbourne
I have made no secret of my support for the Padres and Mike Schildt this season. In the same way I support Skip Schumacher and the Marlins. No one had a bigger smile when I saw that you guys bounced Yamamoto after less than an inning. Go Pads!
Canuckleball
The Cards have won 2 World Series in the last 20 years (10% of all titles in that time). The Bosox have won 4 titles in that same 20 years (20% of all titles)
Between them they have 30% of all titles in the last 20 years. (roughly a third)
I would imagine there are a plethora of fanbases more worthy of pity then either of them.
Gwynning
You’re not wrong Canuckleball… the A’s top the list to me. I just meant, based on more recent tidings, the 2 mentioned franchises are going through a strange lull period. Not exactly “full throttle” and stuff. The strangeness of the situations are only enhanced by their traditional winning ways and recent titles!
Canuckleball
I completely understand what you were getting at. I just like playing devil’s advocate sometimes.
Boston fans whining in particular just rankles me a bit. 2018 wasn’t that long ago.
Cleveland hasn’t won in 75 years
The Brewers and your Pads have been waiting 55 years
Seattle has never won in 47 years of existence.
The Pirates haven’t won in 44 years. Baltimore sitting on 40.
The vast majority of those fan bases have never seen a title in their lifetime.

@Canuckeball add the Giants three titles and you have just under half the titles in baseball the past twenty years from three teams who can’t seem to find consistency in recent years.

@canuckleball – I believe most Sox fans are “whining” not only because of the sudden change of direction the team took in 2019, but add on top of that that they have the highest prices in the game. Six years of purposefully not competing while charging so much is worthy of some complaining.
DarkSide830
Huh? The Red Sox have been spoiled the past ~20 years?
Gwynning
@JaysFan1979- I’m pretty sure it pertains to the individual teams, not one particular day. For instance, the Pad’s and Dodger’s seasons have started and Monty would be ineligible to be QO’d if signed by *them*
Joe Kerr
Wait…the White Sox won 101 games last year?? Man, I was watching the wrong games.

If somehow someway MLB/FBI found concrete evidence linking Ohtani to gambling on baseball what would that mean for Pete Rose?
Jean Matrac
It wouldn’t mean anything for Rose. MLB is not going to say, well Ohtani did it so now it’s okay; welcome back Pete. It would have a lot of negative meaning for Ohtani though. It doesn’t matter who a guy is. If he bets on baseball, he’s out.
Jean Matrac
The gambling of baseball players and basketball players are two different things. Plus, I never saw the word ‘illegal’ attached to the rumors of Jordan’s gambling. Ohtani’s money, whether bet by him or his interpreter, was through an illegal operation.. If, as posed in the hypothetical, that concrete evidence of Ohtani gambling on baseball was uncovered, it won’t be a slap on the wrist.

8:31 What are the chances Jesse Chavez signs with the Braves now that he has been released?
Mark P
8:32 When I posted that item on MLBTR yesterday, there were immediately at least 50 messages on X saying “he’s going to the Braves.”
And honestly, I’d put it at well over 50 percent.”

Hey Mark, Always love your chats. thanks.
The Jays seems to make some good trades they blow themselves out of the water with really bad ones, kinda shooting themselves in the foot. That seems like Atkins Modus Oprandi.
I can’t see the Jays winning anything this year unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat in a trade or claims. [Orelvis Martinez could be a good one].
I think Atkins is fired by November of this year. Any thoughts.? thx.
