Who would win in a fight Carlos Zambrano or Kyle Farnsworth?
Troy Percival's iPad
Are we talking playing heyday Farnsworth or post-retirement bodybuilding Russian boxer Farnsworth?
I feel like Zambrano beats the first, but not the second
Gwynning
Idk, what’s the latest oddsboard say? That being said, I do know that A.J. Pierzynski can take a punch.

JD Davis would block Kyle Manzardo at 1B/DH. JD Smith is not an outfielder which is what Cleveland needs. Pass on Davis.
I.M. Insane
The question about who might still be playing in the 2040s is depressing. I would be 83 in 2040. I need a drink.

Having Steve say Snell and Monty only need one or two minor league starts to be ready for the season is one of the most short-sighted comments I’ve ever read on MLBTR.
This does not take into account the head coach, pitching coach, catchers, strength / conditioning coach, analytics, etc.
There’s a reason the pitchers and catchers report earlier than the rest of the team.
Off the field workouts? SMH.

Depends on his interpretation of “be ready” is. But I have to agree, the early season schedule is always pretty harsh though so bringing a guy up who may only be capable of going 3, maybe 4 innings isn’t very smart.
Jean Matrac
IDK, you might be right, but I read somewhere that Boras has a set-up that tries to approximate ST as much as possible. I’m sure they’re throwing regularly, and getting stretched out, so the the pitch count might not be as big an issue as you suggest when they do take the field. But on the other hand, not facing ML batters in a simulated ST could be a problem, when they do pitch for real.
drasco036
I’m curious just how much they are throwing. In all seriousness, I’m not risking injury. Thanks Scott but no thanks, this guy would not be throwing. I’ll be behind.
Jean Matrac
I think there’s a better chance of injury in not throwing. No pitcher goes all out in ST until maybe the end. Starting the season behind, and there’s temptation to go too fast. If I’m one of those guys I’m throwing like I would be in a regular ST.
nukeg
We’ve seen issues from accelerated ramp-up schedules time and again. From WBC timelines to late FA signings, it’s a tremendous risk to rush these guys. Davis’ Law describes how soft tissue (ligaments, tendons) adapt via imposed demands. Basically tissue condenses when not in use (offseason). It expands when properly stretched out (Spring Training).
Ramping up on a proper schedule is not just a good idea, it’s medically necessary.

Who would win in a fight, Zaidi or JD Davis?
Pete'sView
Neither, Pat Burrell would pull them apart.

Upon witnessing this event, Gabe has dropped to a knee.

Then Pat would take the wife / girlfriend – because he could…

Who leads the AL in K’s minus Cole? Corbin Burnes!
drasco036
Cease had more strike outs than Burnes last season… and the season before. Probably a pretty good chance he will again this year.
Jean Matrac
It’s Lopez, hands down. He had more K’s than Cole last season, and only 3 less than Gausman, who’s 5 years older.
TroyVan
I’m going with Skubal. He’s a strikeout machine! If he’s healthy, he will be #1 or #2.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Jackson Jobe might do it next year. He made his ST debut today and wowed everybody. Perfect 9th, 13 pitches, 2 strikeouts and hit 102. Not bad for a 21 year old who was pitching in high school in 2021.
drasco036
If Cole is going to miss the entire season then the Yankees best course of action is hang “for sale” signs on Soto, Verdugo and Torres while at the same time do whatever it takes to create a good impression on Soto so he may be interested in re-signing in the Bronx.
Further depleting your farm for Cease and/or going further into luxury tax territory for Snell isn’t going to be enough. Your season was already hanging on Cole’s ability to repeat along with both Rodon and Nester rebounding.
Gwynning
I would say “play ball” if I were the Yanks. With or without Cole, just start the games and see how ya do. Maybe you start hot… or just throw out the expiring contracts at the TDL if it’s a lost season. Hopefully Cole is ok.
drasco036
If Cole is fine, I would pull out all stops and trade for Cease. Cole, Cease, Stroman is a strong top three and if either Rodon or Nester bounce back that can be a very very good rotation.
Gwynning
Adrian- I’m rocking the same boat. I’m going to softly float Tork and probably keep Casas. Casas’ first 26 games were booty juice, but his showing after that was crazy good. He should absolutely feast on RHs his entire career. 80th+ percentile Chase rate, Barrel % and Hard Hit rate. Casas had a very sneaky good ’23 & only getting better. Tork… I could possibly part with.
Gwynning
HUVIE33- the problem I could envision for the Yanks would be the very-difficult-to-navigate Bauer/Cole reunion. There’s lots of bad juju history there, iydk.
EasternLeagueVeteran
Very good point about the Cole/Bauer animosity. Not a small thing. Forgot about it until you mentioned it, but it definitely was real.
Yankees if they had acted sooner could have had a Marlins starter for one or more their MLB ready prospects. But the Marlins didn’t wait, signed Rosario, and now have Cabrera to worry about so they aren’t dealing any of their starters.
Very missed opportunity, regardless of whether Cole is out for a while or not.
Another case of Cashman hanging onto their prospects too long. Esteban
Florial had virtually no value at the end of his Yankees career. Neither did Deivi Garcia. And the Oswaldo/Oswald twins are the next in line. Wake up Mister Cashman.
Gwynning
“Brian, promise me you’ll hug your prospects to death when you become a GM… *cough, cough*”
“OK Grandpa, I promise you.”
The Saber-toothed Superfife
The Tigers do the same thing. I think they are afraid of looking bad if the prospect succeeds. I would think they would be happy to help a player land where he can excel. Instead, they can ruin a man’s career/life. Sad really.
