Our MLB Contract Tracker is an amazing research tool, full of features and capabilities you can’t get anywhere else. You can filter by player name, team, position, batting handedness, throwing handedness, contract type (MLB deal, minor league deal, extension), number of years, amount of total money, average annual value, type of option, age in the first year of the deal, age in the last year of the deal, service time for those who signed extensions, Super Two status, qualifying offer status, agency at the time of signing, and any date range from 10-5-09 to present. Subscribe to Trade Rumors Front Office today to gain access!
We just finished data entry for the 2009-10 offseason, which was led by Matt Holliday, John Lackey, and Jason Bay. Was anyone around here back then? Throughout the year, MLBTR’s Mark Polishuk and Bryan Grosnick will continue working backward to add more years to the database. Of course, the MLB Contract Tracker is also updated daily as new deals come in. Before you know it, we’ll have Jackson Holliday in there.
For the real contract data nerds, we have also upgraded our service time filter. Now, we have a checkbox for players who signed extensions with zero MLB service:
We have also refined the service time filter so that you can select custom ranges. For example, here’s a search of starting pitcher extensions for those with at least two and less than four years of MLB service:

Nice!

This site is like the other baseball media, pushing teams to make extremely bad investments in very inconsistent, sketchy players eventually leading to insolvency.
Tim Dierkes
That’s true, there are many insolvent MLB teams at present, and it is the fault of this website.

It is pretty biased Tim. You can insult me if you like, but it is pretty biased, Tim. Why don’t you explain how you pushed 12 yrs & 250M for an inconsistent player that’s been more bad than good the last 5 years?..Obviously I’ve hit upon some truth for the site owner to confront me.

“May I insult you”..Let’s not act as though the Texas Rangers didn’t go bankrupt back in 2010 around the ridiculous Alex Rodriguez contract. And if insults are all you’ve got, bring them on, because I’m a big boy who’s not particularly thin skinned.
Tim Dierkes
I reject the argument of “Response from Tim = what I said is true.” I responded specifically because what you said is silly.
Also object to “pushed.” Contract predictions are not recommendations or endorsements.
Your thing lacks nuance, which is not typically how good arguments are made.
There are tons of contracts we think are bad investments, and plenty we think are good. But that’s nuance.
mlb fan
“Your thing lacks nuance”..I’m not even sure what that means. I would say your point lacks clarity and we can agree to disagree on this one. I think just the fact the site owner responded suggests it’s not “silly”. I really doubt you respond to the tens of thousands of outlandish points posted here every day. Have a good day.

Do you know that I read somewhere on a media that Tim D’s great great great great grandfather was good friends with Abe Lincoln and he really loved this play he had seen the week prior. He wouldn’t stop talking about it so Abe finally said fine I’ll go see what the fuss is about. Walked into Ford’s Theatre that night but never came out. Never should have listened to old man Dierkes…

Lighten up boys, remember Mr. Valentine has set the price. It gotta laugh yesterday. Ahahaha!
Lloyd Emerson
Just yesterday, ‘mlb fan’ said he doesn’t even read the articles. So why should anyone care about his opinion?

You must be fun at parties.

Why, yes, yes I have been around here since back then. A reader more than a poster in those days.
I appreciate the great work your team does contributing to the insolvency of MLB. : -)
A couple of suggestions:
One useful option would be to have the mute option fixed for mobile devices. It doesn’t censor any one, but it would allow readers to better manage the noise in their timelines.
Second, not sure if this is technically possible, but have Trade Rumors Subscriber comments automatically appear at the top of threads. It will be another advantage for TR subs you can promote, but it also might reduce the influence of trolls who like to be at the top of threads. Most of your Trade Rumor subs seem to be more serious baseball fans, so having their comments be the first others see could lead to better discourse since readers often simply respond to that first post. At the very worst, you might get a few trolls to pay for your services and you’ll actually know who they are if you want to give them a permanent ban.
Keep up the great work. Hope to still be here in another 15 years.

The other baseball media push it for eyeballs that ultimately attract advertisers. MLBTR could go full membership fees and then you’d have to pay the full cost or you can stop complaining about something free and click on a few ads so the site gets some income.

“The other baseball media”…I probably didn’t really make my main point very clear, but I am trying to say that like most media in America the articles on this site all come from the same slant or point of view. It’s like they only hire their friends or people with the exact same worldview. I’m hardly the first to suggest that media in America is biased or one-sided. Having an opinion doesn’t mean I don’t like the site. I am considering a paid subscription actually.
Overall It’s a very good site, but a little neutrality would be welcomed.

A bit tough to find unbiased reporting anywhere in the world. Essentially, this article is promoting one of the benefits of having membership. If you don’t want to get the membership, then click on some more ads for the website. If you don’t like a bit of bias then you’re more than welcome to leave but honestly, given the amount of value and input from this site, it really doesn’t bother me that they might have some bias sprinkled into an article once in a while. It’s a much better and simpler MLB news website compared to the others.
straightuphonestguy
Can you point out this slant/point of view issue with examples? I’ve been reading this site for over a decade, and I’ve never noticed considerable biases (of course, every writer has SOME bias — that’s just human nature). Just last week, one of the writers lambasted the Padres’ signing of Bogaerts as unnecessary.
wagner13
I really don’t understand your complaints. Obviously, any piece of writing is going to have some semblance of bias. However, it seems to be largely minimized here. I can’t think of anything particularly egregious, and most opinion pieces are pretty clearly labeled as such.
As for the comment section, on a broader basis, maybe it would be useful to sort by things other than oldest and newest comments. For instance, we could sort by likes or subscriber status if desired. I don’t know how difficult that would be to implement, but I think it’s worth considering. I also think we should have a down vote option.
Just my opinion; appreciate the content!
stymeedone
This site has the slant of other media, because it summarizes articles from other media. If you add an opinion, you are not summarizing. You may notice each article linking where you can read the original piece. But that’s right, you don’t read the articles.
This one belongs to the Reds
MLB basically is a large market apologist club in all its incarnations at the moment led by their boy in the commissioners office. Two thirds of clubs are just along for the ride and can expect nothing more except in brief moments when it happens to come together before the players leave for the large market cash.

Awesome resource. Thanks for your hard work guys.

Impressive tool. Great information. Articles on your site have improved in quantity and quality… more in-depth, more quality overall. Amazing deal on the paid subscription. Anyone else would be charging simply for the ability to read the everyday items. Great work.
