John Henry should sell.
I.M. Insane
And Alex Cora should resign.

And go back to being a Steel-Drivin’ Man?
deGrom/Langford Texas Ranger
Acuna’s deal, Chris Sale’s deal, and some others are certainly better than Albies’ deal.
Jean Matrac
Steve answered the shorter season question with the most obvious answer. But, a shorter regular season makes sense with the expanded playoffs. Teams playing WS games in 30-40 degree weather, which is possible in some northern cities, isn’t ideal.
The thing that I like about a shorter regular season is that there would be more incentive to make the playoffs, and less incentive to tank. Teams making the playoffs would be rewarded financially. Tanking teams would lose that revenue Steve listed.

You don’t mess with tradition man. 162 games is SACROSANCT. It’s not called a marathon for nothing.
vikingbluejay67
Wasn’t always a 162 game schedule though…
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
Yeah yeah yeah 154 or something pretty close.
Jean Matrac
162 isn’t sacrosanct though. The 154 game season has almost as much a history as the 162. But when they went to the 162 the playoffs were a maximum of 7 games.. Now the playoff are a potential extra 22 games. People are always looking for reasons for higher injury rates. Longer seasons mean shorter off seasons. Not saying that’s the cause, but I could see that could be a factor.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I could see a case for going back to 154 (and maybe more doubleheaders?) but NO LESS…or I will suffer massive cognitive dissonance.
Jean Matrac
Yeah, I really don’t like the idea of less baseball, but I also think about how the end of the season drags on for a lot of teams. But I agree. I’d hate to see less than 154.
Bill the Cat
My first thought was would the players agree to the same % paycut that the revenues across the board would be? Nope nope nope…..

The difference between this season and last season is that we know the woman that accused Bauer was a fraud and should be charged for filing a false report.
Javia135
It’s a misdemeanor unfortunately.
Jean Matrac
Actually, what you should have said is one of the women that accused Bauer was a fraud. My guess is that MLB clubs have access to the league investigation and see a pattern of behavior. Whether or not that’s true is debatable. But what’s not debatable is clubs are avoiding him. Teams don’t usually pass on guys that can help their team on the basis of unfounded rumors.
jorge78
who are these cretins who keep bringing up Trevor Bauer’s name for teams to consider!!??
He’s a horrible person who did horrible things to women!
I wonder about the morals of some MLBTR commentors…..
jimdevinmoriah
He’s a really good pitcher and he broke no laws. who are you to judge someone on morals alone. Yes he may not be a great guy, has kinky sex, and maybe not a great teammate. But if you look throughout baseball, there are many worse than him, and they were not black balled!
gbs42
Bonds was much better and was blackballed.
norcalblue
Actually Bonds is a great comparison if you are trying to make the case for Bauer being unfairly treated. Bonds is simply a horrible person who has never taken responsibility for his decisions in life.
And I believe Bauer should never be on an MLB roster ever again.
Jean Matrac
You can’t compare Bauer to guys like Ty Cobb, or any other guy from decades ago. Not just baseball but society as a whole is vastly different. Bad people in the past wouldn’t be playing today either.
GoGreen
Bauer exposed the sticky stuff. That hurt a lot of feelings and egos up in the country club.
Jean Matrac
Oh yeah, have to have that conspiracy theory. If that were the motivation by MLB, why didn’t they crack down on Gerrit Cole? His text message to that Angel’s clubhouse guy about needing stuff predated Bauer’s deal with the Dodgers.
Employ Occam’s razor. What’s the most logical explanation? That MLB goes light on Astros’ players for cheating, but blocks Bauer? The most logical explanation for every team’s aversion to Bauer is his track record concerning his domestic issues.
Big Hurt
Maybe the worst trade offer ever considered on a chat. Someone offered Bart, Conforto and 2 average prospects for Robert. LOL – wow, talk about a homer (at least Steve let him know it was ridiculous). I know people don’t love trade simulator, but this trade is 77.3 to 5.5.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I had quite a laugh on that one. And Steve was even a little cutting , for a nice guy.
aussiegiants53
As a Giants, I lol’ed do that deal in a heart beat haha
