6:51 what about Arreaz to the Jays? Could be a good fit at 2B…. Would Manoah plus a prospect work?
Good grief people….The guy is a .326 career hitter and 2x recent batting champ. Show him a little respect! Wondering how Mark doesn’t think this guy could instantly carve out a spot on the Yanks because they have a “crowded infield.” Are they all better hitters than Araez or something??
Joe says...
He’s definitely better than anyone in the Yankees infield but five top 100 prospects for him is crazy.
TrumboRedux
Joe, of course 5 top prospects would be totally nutty nuts. But a schlep like Manoah and 1 other guy certainly won’t cut it either. I have NO idea who the Yanks could trade for him, I just don’t know their players well enough and certainly know very little about their prospects.
Joe says...
I do agree with the premise that the Yankees don’t really need him though. Not sure what it would cost from them but their prospect capital should be spent on pitching. Luzardo would be the preferred target.
And yeah I’ve seen lots of Manoah trade ideas like he’s going to get some big return.
riffraff
I’m sticking with my “Varsho and Manoah to the cubs for Morel ( and maybe a lottery ticket type prospect ). Never predicted a trade correctly but law of averages says I have to get one right sometime
jorge78
Cubs laugh and hang
up…..
Unclemike1525
My favorite was why won’t FA’s sign with the Pirates? Uh, Because maybe they can’t swim and they’re too close to the river? Or like the Goalie in Slapshot said, The Hair is bad here.
Jean Matrac
Joe says…, I agree. Though Arraez would be an upgrade on the IF, the question is whether that upgrade would be enough to justify the cost. I have to think that it isn’t. Better to put resources toward someone else, like your Luzardo suggestion.
avenger65
riffraff: Is Christopher “Mushroom” Morel really that good? I don’t watch the cubs so I don’t know. And my friends who are cub fans are, well, cub fans.
lemonlyman
Morel is a liability in the field and Cubs fans think his trade value is higher than it really is I believe.
drasco036
Yes, Christopher Morel is actually really good but also yes, fans are over valuing him.
Morel came up two seasons ago, skipping AAA completely. That kind of shows you what the Cubs think of his talent level. He came up, stayed the season, was clearly over matched but went home, made some adjustments, started in AAA and went off!
Last season Morel came up on fire, hit 9 home runs and continued to hit well until August, made some adjustments again and finished strong. Basically, he showed he can handle himself in the bigs at 23/24 years old. Still has some maturing to do and hopefully with Counsell and Kelly, he improves to round out his game.
jorge78
Why do Jay’s fans think Manoah has value? He’s injured physically and mentally. He’s headed out of baseball soon…..
Unclemike1525
Because he stinks and they want them to get rid of him to save the money for something else. Same way us Cub fans would love to get rid of Smyly and his 11 million. Every team basically has at least 1 salary they’d love gone. Ask Yankee fans what it would feel like if Stanton was gone and I bet you get the picture.

LA and TOR work on a Muncy/Manoah trade is fascinating. Wonder what other piece Jays would have to incl for LA to pull the trigger.
TrumboRedux
We do not want him. Not even a little.
TrumboRedux
We love Muncy in LA and certainly don’t need Manoah.
vtadave
Would need to include Vlad Jr. with a guarantee from the Jays that Vlad could handle 3B.
Gwynning
There’s all the confirmation we need to know the deal is dead…
vtadave
yep
slidepiece
Would be counter productive for LA to even consider that garbage

Is the mute button broken?
Longtimecoming
That was the question that I submitted to the chat but it wasn’t answered. I do see that they have cleaned up the problem children though.
TrumboRedux
I wish I knew who to give the credit to! It’s amazing!
Fever Pitch Guy
Trumbo – In the Lorenzen comments I made a post saying to email Tim because he would be able to tell which account was first. I have no idea if that’s what happened, so I can’t take the credit.
On a separate subject, there’s better than a 50/50 chance I’ll be at the Opening Series in Anaheim April 5-7. Any feedback you could provide would be greatly appreciated, I’m guessing tickets will be hard to come by, even with Ohtani gone.
TrumboRedux
Fever, Awesome! You will have a blast! If at all possible, park in the Amtrak Parking lot, which is practically connected to the stadium. Parking is still $8 bucks there on game days as far as I know. Any entrance to the stadium should work well, although if you go in through the home plate entrance it’s easier to get your bearings. The largest open area there is the pavillion spanning foul pole to foul pole. You can walk circles around the whole stadium with that route. Food is pretty plain jane there. Sooo many good places in the immediate vicinity though. Depending on what you are in the mood for..
TrumboRedux
P.S. I personally like “tickpick” for my ballgame tickets. Never had a problem with them. Easy to navigate the site as well..
Fever Pitch Guy
Trumbo – Thanks! Last year was my first time and I loved it. I had parked in the VIP section, between the big A sign and the stadium., but that was for a Monday thru Wednesday series. I would imagine opening weekend will have a much bigger attendance.
Maybe I felt a special connection to the stadium because it debuted a month before I did. Haha!
Fever Pitch Guy
Trumbo – Good to know, thank you! I will check it out.
TrumboRedux
Fever, I am glad you are dispelling the myth of Angel Stadium being a dump for a lot of people. I hear far too often how terrible it is there. The food is nothing great but I don’t have many other complaints about it there.
Fever Pitch Guy
Trumbo – I’m not one to eat at games anyway. I’m a bit of a germaphobe, I refuse to pay the crazy high prices, and I don’t leave my seat from first pitch to last pitch.
The surrounding area, yeah not that pleasant from what I saw.
But inside, I really enjoyed it. Lots of interesting things to look at while walking around the entire concourse, and I really liked the retro feel. It really felt like I was watching a game in the 1960’s and I say that in a 100% positive way.
The video clips being played while Calling All Angels is on the sound system is a fantastic touch.
People were friendly, place was clean (I didn’t use the men’s room though), it was exactly the SoCal experience I expected.
I’ve not made it to Dodger Stadium yet, maybe someday.
good vibes only
Well I hope so. MLBTR comments section has become a cesspool lately
Fever Pitch Guy
Long – In another thread I suggested this, they need to stop allowing all the name changes. That would cut down on a lot of the issues.
I know Tim can’t do much about preventing multiple accounts, but he can certainly put a stop to all the name changes that are often done for the sole purpose of trolling.
Fever Pitch Guy
vibes – I don’t think it’s broken, I think they just made a change around the time that they started grouping comments.
Basically you can still prevent people you mute from commenting on your posts, but now you can see the comments from people you’ve muted. Which quite honestly I’m against.
Bottom line, if I mute somebody I do NOT want to see their posts.
Unclemike1525
Yeah the whole mute thing is dumb anyway. I’ve never muted anyone. Basically in today’s society if somebody hurts their feelings they feel the need to tune somebody out. Quite frankly I have no idea how people like that made it through life at all. If you give your opinion and I give mine, Then it’s all good. But this guy Joel, And there have been others, Who basically just stalk you around and attack everything you say and try to dominate everyone and every conversation. It’s the equivalent of them coming to your house every day with a megaphone and blurting stuff out on your lawn. This guy actually posted that he was an ex-con drug dealer and said it loud and proud like it was an accomplishment. I have zero idea why anyone would do that or what claim that is to any baseball knowledge at all but that was his deal. I can fight my own battles and have been all my life, But there are people that just keep pushing until you say enough. This site does a great job of policing the creeps for the most part and I even had a stalker once and they got rid of him, But there is always another one around the corner. Muting them isn’t really accomplishing the goal. But thanks MLBTR, That guy was a bit off I think.
good vibes only
I would rather not mute people but there are a lot of people on here that do exactly what you described or are generally hostile and unconstructive. I don’t really care to see people that can’t keep it professional. Nobody here can possibly offend me, I just don’t want to waste my time scrolling through the aggressive drivel some of these frequent commenters tend to post.
ohyeadam
It’s not about feelings. It’s about the waste of time trying to find a good post amongst the trolls and politicians
Fever Pitch Guy
Uncle – if somebody has proven to have nothing to offer, why spend the time reading them? Especially if they are hurling insults, why would I want to read that?
Differing opinions is perfectly fine, I would never mute somebody for just that.
good vibes only
That’s where I’m at too. I don’t want to see their posts and it would be great if they couldn’t see/respond to mine as well.
Unclemike1525
Yeah I just come here for some fun and intelligent baseball conversation. I mostly get that and it is fun. But you’re right, There are some who just come here to attack people and nobody needs any of that. Maybe ‘ Feellings” was the wrong word as some of the people who attack everybody don’t have any at all. So sorry if I ruffled more feathers, Wasn’t my intention. Peace
good vibes only
No feathers ruffled on my end! You are not part of the problem lol. Thanks for engaging in a positive way
LordD99
I view the mute button as a way to maintain personal sanity. A real-life equivalent—you walk into a pub and the guy sitting next to you is obnoxious, destroying an overall pleasant experience. If he does that regularly, you avoid him, sit elsewhere. He’s free to be obnoxious to other people, just not to you. The mute button allows that on a board. I may only have a half a dozen commenters on mine, accumulated over years. I go in and “free them” to see if they’ve grown up. If not, off to the phantom zone again! For the most part it’s not necessary because I post nearly 100% from the mobile app, and the mute function doesn’t stick. Maybe they’ve fixed that.

One observation- I have noticed fans tend to categorize players in a binary fashion into either ‘underpaid’ or ‘bargain’ or ‘overpaid’ or ‘albatross’ etc. and almost never ever acknowledge that a very well paid player is paid exactly what they’re worth, whether it’s $8M, $12M, $18M, $25M, etc. it seems like people in these comment sections never say that a player is paid exactly or very near their true value.
Case in point from the Q&A: Someone brought up how Lindor has performed decently the past couple of seasons and is thus somehow now a bargain at $68.2M in total salary for a total of 11.5 WAR.
That would indicate he’s been worth $5.93M per 1 WAR the past couple of years, which is approximately average WAR value for position players- perhaps a tiny bit low for the current market, but about average for the past half decade or even a tiny bit longer.
So it seems he’s simply… lived up to the contract. Which, there’s nothing wrong with that. That means it’s been a good deal!
But why do people generally seem to categorize deals as being bargains or overpays and almost never just acknowledge that a player’s price was or is fair- nothing more, nothing less- it’s not a discount, it’s not an overpay, it’s just fair market value.
LordD99
The cost of a win, while interesting, is limited. It treats all teams and all markets equally, which is a major fault. The cost of a win fighting for a playoff spot is much higher than for a last place team. Teams internally have their own formulas that are much more nuanced than the Fangraphs model. Lindor is delivering 5-6 WAR seasons. He’s valuable.
