To Mark’s point about picking Elias over AA to start from scratch — you’re never starting from scratch unless you’re running an expansion team. You’re always taking out your predecessor’s trash. While almost every team, at some point, has a dearth of talent, most teams can’t/don’t develop & lock them up to maximize that talent. AA’s talent has been not only extending said talent, but most importantly, identifying the talent and not using much as trade bait to do an overhaul that would have more of his fingerprints over it. He’s not undefeated, but close to it with trades, signings & extending core pieces.
Take in mind, when AA started, AA has sever penalties that took away 13 prospects from their farm, while limiting activity in the international FA market for years, and even the amateur draft. He didn’t have those areas to restock the farm and build on the depth.
ironically none of those prospects worked out…..
@jorge and the prospect that looked the best Maitan and was the one that really got Coppy in trouble seems to have fizzled out.
Prior to Mike Elias the Orioles didn’t participate in the international market.
Mark chose Mike Elias because he’s ahead of the field when it comes to drafting and developing players.
Do cubs sign bellinger
Maybe the Nats are a fit for Belli? GM Rizzo goes multi year deal. Belli is a name for sure. Next couple of years, Belli helps fill seats as Rizzo continues the rebuild.
Do you think the Yankees are going to get any more starting pitching?
What kind of prospect/young player would it take to pry SP Logan Gilbert away from the Mariners? One for one trade.
Sillywabbit. There isn’t one, unless the Dodgers want to send half a billion dollars and Ohtani. Then maybe.
Gilbert is an excellent pitcher but I think Mariners fans still way overvalue him. They will be awfully upset when the M’s trade him in a couple of years because they won’t pay him
I was looking for an example of the level of prospect he’d fetch. How is that overvaluing him?
I think Jackson Holliday for Gilbert straight up is a legit trade. My guess Baltimore fans so no way and Mariner fans say no way so it’s probably a fair trade.
The Orioles would want more!
NEWS BULLETIN from Cleveland:
I know this isn’t baseball, but the Cleveland Browns plan to fire Kevin Stefanski and Jim Schwartz tomorrow morning and hire Bill Belichick as head coach, Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator, and Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator. The GOAL : Super Bowl while Deshaun Watson is their qb. Exciting times in Cleveland.
Banking on Deshaun is far less likely than acquiring all that coaching talent. And if your folly reigns true, you still have Deshaun, who just doesn’t care.
Cleveland has to have multiple unknown indian burial grounds underneath the majority of their facilities?
Disaster…..
just stop with your nonsense, Oil
Yankees look like they won’t be hitting again this year. No base runners. No walks. No runs. Pathetic.
JoelP,
178iq (which is a very self-indulgent and unlikely-to-be-true flex) loves hating on the Yankees.
Doesn’t Juan Soto get a lot of hits and lead the league in walks every year?
According to a certain someone above, Soto “does nothing.”
If Texas offers Sasaki 10 MM as a bonus and says “screw the pnealties,” would that work? If so, how much would a team be able to offer as a bonus at most?
I’m sure the commissioner’s office would shut that scenario down quickly.
So, how does a guy better than Yam decide on a team if not for bonus?
I’m basing this off of his age. He’s under 25 so he’s subject to the same rules as Ohtani when he signed with the Angels.
There’s a link above to the correct place to submit questions…
Any possibility Snell resigns with Pads?
Why is everyone posting questions in the comment section here today?? You guys all MLBTR’s first-timers or something?? When the chat is LIVE, you click on the chat link(which is normally at the beginning of the article announcing the live chat), and then post your questions.
Since I can’t get to every question in the chat, it’s pretty common for people to instead submit their questions in the comments section.
It is? “Submit their questions?” You answer questions posted here in the post-chat comment threads now??? Don’t recall seeing that Mark. I thought I was being a good little soldier by explaining to people how to actually get into a chat and ask questions..
Yeah, that’s a new one.
Sorry, I phrased that poorly. I meant that if people don’t get their questions answered by me in the chat, sometimes they post them in the comments section to discuss with the other commenters.
Mark, I appreciate your reply. And yes, I know that we bring our Q’s into the comment section at times. But at first glance today, I saw what I thought was 5 or 6 straight Q’s lined up in the comment section here, almost as if people were trying to get through to the live chat, or maybe didn’t know how..I wasn’t sure. But yeah I was never trying to hammer anyone for posting Q’s in the comment section. My instinct was that a batch of newbies didn’t know how to get into the live chat so I tried to give them the info on how to do so. Anyways Mark, happy beads..I mean Sunday!
P.S. Is that what you advise now, Mark? If someone doesn’t get their question in the chat answered, just flock to the comment section here and post it, and you’ll answer some of them?? Not sure what you are saying…I see you slide in the threads once in a very blue moon…So again, not sure what you are getting at amigo.
Geez, Trumbo, relax. Is it better that those who don’t get a question answered just meekly keep quiet. I would think you “experts” would welcome the opportunity for discussion.
Fox471 Dave, I have NO idea what you are talking about…Way to jump into a convo while being completely out of the loop. Whatever made you think that I was disparaging people from asking questions!
Not sure where your “experts” remark is coming from or about either. What a random troll job..
Most people are idiots.
Newsflash: comment sections can help the authors write articles most of the site’s readership will find interesting. I think the content and analysis are top notch regardless of cost (or lack thereof) and lively comments sections are fast becoming a relic on today’s web. Most of us have no desire to see any of that change.
Dankyank, I feel like you are arguing with yourself for some reason..Nobody said anything contrary to anything you are saying…What/who are you defending?? Maybe you are replying to someone I blocked, but I didn’t see anyone site bashing on here or complaining about the “free product.”
We both know the name of the website. People are asking questions in the comments section of a free website about potential baseball transactions. You have the choice to not participate in the comments section.
Sure. Of course. But normally you don’t see that in the post-chat threads. Could mean newbies don’t know what they are doing. Or maybe the chat forum is on the fritz. Again, I am not sure what your boggle is, friend.
The question are baseball transaction related and if the thread is post chat as you acknowledge, commenters no longer have the opportunity to post questions in the live chat. And as Mark pointed out, the practice is more common than you’re willing to admit.
Dank, we are definitely lost in translation my man. I don’t think I am saying what you think I am saying and vice versa lol. It is hard to explain one self thoroughly on here at times. We can probably both just move forward at this juncture (no harm no foul).
Dank, In short, I thought something was weird/off that so many people were posting so many seemingly Q’s that were meant for the live chat on here. For multiple reasons. Which is why I posted the process to get into the live chat and post them. I had innocent/honest intentions. Otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted my precious time posting the how-to process for possible newbies etc. I can’t see how I ever manifested a negative implication in anyone’s head with my initial remarks. I hope I conveyed that all concisely.
You’re correct. Mark caused additional confusion with his response since it’s not something they’ve done previously. Also, he hasn’t answered any of the questions!
Rob, you really are a smart amigo. That is my precise train of thought. Glad I am not the only one.
Trumbo – I think it’s a case of one person posting a question in the comments, and others seeing it and assuming it’s the process and therefore doing the same.
With all due respect to Mark, his explanation was not applicable because if you look at the timestamps of the questions posted in the comments it was during the beginning of the chat – not after the chat. I know that for a fact because I saw the questions in the comment section while the chat was still going on. So it definitely was not a case of questions that were ignored in the chat being asked again in the comments section.
I know you had good intentions, that’s all that matters.
Fever, I appreciate you mentioning the time stamps and that aspect of it. You and Robm seem to know exactly what I was talking about. Mark’s initial response to me was indicative of him thinking I was trying to be negative for some reason. In any case, I am glad at least some of my pals understand.
So are there a dozen idiots asking the beads / bees thing, or one person asking it a dozen times?
Why they waste time addressing that idiotic “question” while ignoring other legitimate ones baffles me. It’s a stupid running gag that was never funny.
It’s a running gag that takes maybe 30 seconds. If people want to complain about that “waste of time,” I’ve suggested before they check out FanGraphs chats. They discuss board games, cats, what’s for lunch, etc. Baseball is supposed to be fun. If you don’t like the bit, skip over those few lines and get to the next question.
Just where is the fun?
It’s lame.
dixon, you obviously don’t find it fun, some others do.
Why aren’t people complaining about someone asking Mark what music he’s listening to during the chat? “It’s such a horrid waste of another 30 seconds!!!”
I just wish I knew 10% of the artists/bands he refers to. I think he mentioned “Lana Del Ray” the other day. She is pretty good. Idk about some of the others though. I think they are indie groups or something haha.
I’d much rather him answer that question than the beads/bees thing. Maybe its because I’m actually a music fan (“former musician”), so I find it interesting what other people like musically, even if I don’t have the same tastes.
The beads/bees thing is played out, beating a dead horse, boring, tired, old, not funny, etc, etc.
I’m currently carrying too much body hair but I’ll trim my chest soon and get the wife to shave my back next week when she gets back from visiting her family in Florida
Are you asking Mark P. if you should do so? I say POLL!
Does Jimmy shave BEFORE his Wife gets home from visiting family?
Does Jimmy shave AFTER his Wife gets home from visiting family?
Dude, get your back hair braided like a real man.
Bauer. Why no questions taken on one of the best starters available for the 5th chat in a row? It seems like collusion, among the MLB and even at MLBTR to not take any questions and pretend this former CY winner is guilty or was even arrested. Nope and nope. Every teammate asked has nothing but great things to say about him. CBS Sports ranked him as one of the top 50 FA available, yet MLBTR pretends he doesn’t exist, why?
Yet Chapman is still in the league, missed time from a tattoo during a playoff run, who fired a gun over his wife’s shoulder in a garage in a fit of anger, and was arrested, yet continues to find work, as just one cogent example. It’s wrong Bauer will be forced to Japan again, while Japanese stars with similar talent sign for tens and even hundreds of millions. Is this the “equity” thing we hear so much about?!
(I’ll ignore strawmen and ad hominem attacks, if you want to discuss the merits of my remarks, without pointing to such things as my username, I know what my username is – I chose it, it’s not some kinda W to point it out, just demonstrates you lack the ability to retort my point.)
AR,
Bauer is a pariah because he has been a jackass online for years and years and a couple of years ago got involved with some things that most teams want nothing to do with. Similar to Barry Bonds, the talent is more than offset by the headache
Also, his performance in NPB last season was mediocre. Offense was way down in Japan last year, and Yamamoto and Imanaga had much better seasons than him.
AmericanRedneck muted me so I cannot discuss rapey Bauer with him. My only point was basically even if a woman with obvious psychological issues asks you to do whatever you want with her body doesn’t mean the wise move is then to proceed to do whatever you want with her body. He could have just said “No thanks baby…I gotta pitch in a couple days, gonna hit the sack. Here’s some cab money, get yourself home safely.” But no, he’s Trevor Bauer, so he opts to have his way with an obviously troubled & immature woman.
@3:19. Agreed Mark. Elias and his counterparts are definitely dancing. Ex. Elias dangling Stowers, the other side wants a Cowser or Kerjstead (sp?)
