TODAY: Garza has cleared waivers and elected free agency, per Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.
Nov 2: The Red Sox have sent reliever Justin Garza through outright waivers, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe (Twitter link). That clears a spot on the 40-man roster.
Boston claimed Garza off waivers from the Angels at the end of April. The right-hander made 17 appearances, tallying 18 1/3 innings. He allowed a 7.36 ERA with a modest 18.7% strikeout percentage while walking more than 13% of batters faced. Garza spent a bit more time at Triple-A Worcester, where he tossed 28 innings of 4.82 ERA ball.
The 29-year-old will have the ability to test minor league free agency. Garza owns a 3.98 ERA through 101 2/3 frames in parts of three seasons at Triple-A. He averaged around 95 MPH on his fastball and could find minor league interest as a depth option.

Breslow already making savage moves!! Will soon be the roster spot of Yamamoto!
Boxscore
Yeah keep going Bres lots of kindling on the roster

Heard that when Bloom made the first move. Let’s see if he actually does something productive before we jump to conclusions. Love the hiring, but its too early to give him praise when we’ve been through 3 different POBOs in the last eight years or so.
Angry Disgruntled Sox Fan
Who? Never heard of him. Maybe once but this isn’t news.
oscar gamble
Sure it is news. Garza had a 40 man roster spot.
Angry Disgruntled Sox Fan
Okay, it’s news, but not “praise Breslow for his first move” news.
mcase7187
Ya we should if Bloom was here he would’ve gave him a 3yr 15m deal
Angry Disgruntled Sox Fan
Actually, Bloom would’ve lowballed it and lost the bid. That’s most of his deals.
But we can’t really fully trust Breslow until he is fully in action. I like the signing but it was an embarrassment that no one wanted the job and that’s why we have him. He was third in command for the Cubs and a Yale graduate, just like Bloom was third for the Rays and from Yale.
I don’t think Breslow will do as bad as Bloom. I think he will be fine, but it’s premature to praise him for this just yet. Breslow was also very general at his press conference and didn’t have much substance, so it’s hard to tell where we are going.

CTE – Commenting on Breslow’s moves should happen as they occur just like when Bloom, DD and all his predecessors had the job.
This move for me is favorable. That’s not an overall prediction for the future, it is a one transaction evaluation and does NOT suggest all evaluations will be positive. People often accused me of being all negative on Bloom but it only seemed that way because each individual evaluation tended to be bad because the move was bad for the team. Bloom did more inconsequential moves than any GM I’ve ever tracked.
Hopefully, Breslow will be smart enough to fix the defense and get the SPs first so the beleaguered Red Sox fans will have something very positive to start the off season with.
I hope his first big move happens soon and it’s one of three:
1 – Moves Devers to DH
2 – Signs Yamamoto
3 – Signs Nola
The team must fix the defense and it must get workhorse pitchers who will lead the team in innings pitched AND put up elite numbers.

All 30 teams need to make room on the 40-man roster for the 60-day DL players to be added back to the 40-man roster (so will all 30 teams be making ‘savage’ moves….yes). Lol
Your humor is appreciated.

@JC#1 My A’s are taking a slightly different approach, attempting to bring players back from the dead. Sadly Shoeless Joe Jackson is STILL banned but Mordecai Three Fingers Brown will be at Spring Training…

Hilarious!!!! Only problem he would make the Redsox staff!!!!

Sox need to clear the 40 man alot. There are some good prospects that need protecting from. The rule 5 draft

I was looking at the article about top Free Agents this off season and here are my top 10 suggestions for Breslow.
Remember, 2 SPs, 3B, 2B, Lefty reliever are the needs so once each category is filled the others drop off the list.:
1 – Ohtani – Willing to keep Devers at 3B if we can get Ohtani but if they sign Ohtani they need to dump Devers contract asap!!
2 – Yamamoto – SP1 or SP2
3 = Nola – SP1 or SP2
4 – Montgomery – SP2
5 – Snell – SP2
6 – Matt Chapman 3B to be the long term solution until a Farm System guy comes up
7 – Mitch Garver so Wong can be the back-up until Teel is ready
8 – Whit Merrifield 2B so Valdez becomes the back-up. Need his speed.
9 – Candalaria 3B cheaper alternative to Chapman gets Devers off the field
10 – Josh Hader RP the lefty that would nicely compliment Jansen late in the game
Remember 2SPs, 3B, 2B and a lefty reliever can turn this team into a 95 to 105 wins team assuming Devers is not fielding.
