Who the heck is Jackson Chourio??

You been living under a rock the last couple years? He’s the brewers top prospect. A 19 y/o OF who crushed AA and got promoted to AAA at the end of the season

8:43 Do you think ATL is built for the regular season and not the post? If so, what’s one specific move you’d make, e.g. focus on another starter who can throw hard (as in 96+ mph).
Mark P
8:44 Uh, they won the World Series two years ago with much of this same core. So sure, they’re “built for the postseason” already. Seems like the Braves’ problem the last couple of years were some ill-timed pitching injuries, or maybe the Phillies just having their number
================================
Same core? What?
C d’Arnaud / Contreras GONE
1b Freeman GONE
2b Albies
SS Swanson GONE
3B Riley
LF Ozuna / Duvall GONE / Rosario FREE AGENT
CF Pederson GONE / Heredia GONE
RF Soler GONE / Acuna INJURED (in 2021)
Pitching—
Morton
Fried
lucky charm Will Smith GONE
Added Strider and Elder, lots of turnover in bullpen
What am I missing? How is that the same “core”? d’Arnaud, Albies, Riley, Ozuna, Acuna, Fried, Morton? 7 players. If they are healthy. 2023 was a completely different cast of characters versus 2021. There is no reason to expect this team to win anything based on 2021 because most of the current players missed 2021.

Part of me keeps waiting for someone to suggest a Rays/Braves trade in these chats. If the Braves went all in on Arozarena and Glasnow, what would it take? The Braves have young controllable pitching prospects near MLB ready, but I’m not sure the Rays are trading for Grissom.
RunDMC
Why would TB be trading Aroz? I get that he starts to become arb-eligible in ’24, but he’s under control until ’27…and with the questions about Franco returning, they have serious questions on offense after Diaz and some talented prospects. I would be surprised if TB packaged both together, and even if they did, I don’t think ATL could afford them, esp if they aren’t in on Grissom. That would be an exciting OF and I’d pay premium to see the bat flips and inevitable bench clearings.
SeibuLionsNPB
You never know who is available for trade really and the Braves like to do their biggest work through trades. I know Aroz has more years but the Rays do trade people when they start to get over certain heights in the salary levels. Perhaps the Rays would be interested in Grissom and the Braves younger prospects, but it was just a thought. The Braves would have to part with a lot of talent to make that deal work.

Maybe Grissom, AJSS, and a lower level guy would get it done. Both players are young (22 and 20) but have made their MLB debuts. Probably six years of control over both. That might entice AA to take on that large salary for Glasnow and not having to platoon the LF would be nice.

Mark, using the 50 MIL loan as evidence that that Pads are having financial problems?
Drew Waters Bat
How do you think that a team that needs to take out a loan to make payroll, isn’t having financial issues. That’s something that a team close to bankruptcy does.

1. MLB refused to allow the team to draw more than $50MM. 2. They also have no broadcast revenue next season. That’s going to sting.

The Vlad-Soto trade scenario makes some sense to both teams. Vlad will get something like 20M this year and Soto will get around 33M. There is a 13M savings for the Padres. The Jays could add in cash as well, say 5M, to raise the cash savings to 18M. Plus, the Padres control Vlad for 2yrs vs only 1y for Soto. Could be an interesting trade.
