SF Giants hired the WRONG guy in Zaidi.
5 years later they’re still 3 years away from being relevant. Mediocre farm system, No Impact position players, Low Ballpark Attendance. The Franchise is in shambles

The only reason that management has kept Farhan is that he has helped the team make money by not signing and trading for quality name players. I think management now realizes they were penny wise and pound foolish. They made short-term monetary profits at the expense of long-term fan support. They now realize the mistake by firing Kapler and putting Zaidi on notice – get the fans back or else. And that is why I think Zaidi has been singing a different tune in the last week. Whether he can deliver on that new philosophy remains to be seen.

And there it is. For some fans all that matters is the recognisability of the name. Forget everything else, just go with the high profile name.

What’s funny Bull is the stuff you’re saying about Zaidi was being said about Sabean in 2005. Almost word for word. Only difference is then they were 5 years away. It’s eerily similar. You might not remember because you might not have been a fan before 2010. Felipe Alou was Sabeans Kapler. The roster was so old that Alou jokingly said he might be the first manager to have a player die while managing. Sabean had made the horrible Pierzynski trade (gave Twins to future Allstars–Nathan, Liriano). He traded for Ponson. Signed Zito for 127 million and that only paid off in 2012. Soon after Sabean struck gold. Drafting Cain, Lincecum, Bum, Posey, Belt, Crawford. So he inherited Bonds, Williams in 97. Prime Bonds. And the Giants were good. And it was a good change cuz the Giants were bad in 96. But 13 years before a title. 13. Zaidi inherited Posey Crawford and Belt. Aging Posey Crawford and Belt. 107 wins in 2 years and now not so good. Does all of this seem very comparable. It’s very similar. Except the Bonds part. And the 13 years part.

So often overlooked are the moves Zaidi cold have made but didn’t:
— Freddie Freeman was out there for the pickings (Belt could easily have been a full-time DH or dealt). Freddie Freakin’ Freeman!
— Carlos Correa might have had some health questions, but why didn’t Zaidi double-back and offer a shorter contract (as the Twins did)?
— Kevin Gausman. Was Zaidi too cautious to spend money?
— Joey Bart. If Zaidi was so sure of Pat Bailey why didn’t he traded Bart when he had value?
Look, I was a huge supporter of Farhan, but he’s wasted precious goodwlll. Let’s see what happens this off season.

Freeman grew up in LA area he was going to be a brave or Dodger. Belt had an excellent season in 2021 no reason to make him a dh. Guasman is the one I didn’t get. He signed for 105m and the Giants never contacted him or made an offer. I know he had a weak second half in 21 so that’s probably be the reason.
After the failed physical and the publicity Corea wasn’t coming to SF. Boras could have contacted the Giants but didn’t. Instead he pivoted to the Mets owner directly.
