Harris needs to talk to ERod’s agent and see what his plans are. If he’s opting out, see if he’d be interested in staying and at what cost. At least find out if a deal can be made. ERod is obviously worth more than what his contract is paying him… everyone knows that, so why should he just opt in when he can make more on the open market?
A real front office would communicate with his players. A real front office would know what the player wants. Harris is a clown. Let’s hope more of Avila’s draft picks pan out, because that’s all Tiger fans can hope for from this clown leading the team.
deweybelongsinthehall
Because he’s been inconsistent on the mound and due to injuries. Based on his overall track record, he might be worth more but his injury history is troubling. I’m thinking a new five year deal, with the extra years less AAV as he aged but then include another opt out after years two and four should be stay healthy and productive.
mlb fan
Admittedly, I don’t watch many Tigers games, but I’ve seen enough of Erod when he was in Boston to know that he’s a “buyer beware” guy who you sign long term at your own risk. A very inconsistent pitcher with a risky injury history.
stymeedone
HARRIS will not be negotiating a new contract with E-Rod. HARRIS is the one who chose to trade him to a team on the no trade list, but blames him for making him look incompetent at the deadline. E-Rod opts in or he be gone. They will sign someone cheaper in FA.
Melchez17
Harris does a fine job of making himself look incompetent. He didn’t need help.

When can we expect a post about the information Bauer showed and how that could affect free agency? You guys were more than happy to cover when claims were made against him.
cmanson
Manfred should be working on an apology once he gets his balls removed from his mouth.
mlb fan
I don’t believe Manfred owes anyone an apology. I always believed Bauer got set up, but he showed poor judgment and did put himself in a risky, compromised position that Manfred was obligated to suspend and investigate for the good of the game.
flamingbagofpoop
I wonder if victim blaming would be ok if Bauer was a woman.
Deleted Userr
Bauer didn’t put himself in any position because Lindsey Hill shouldn’t be making false accusations in the first place!
SoCalADRL
I wouldn’t hold your breath for a single “journalist” to apologize. The arrogance/ignorance amongst that community is incredible. Luckily anybody with common sense can clearly see he was a victim here.
CardsFan57
No one is apologizing to Bauer just because he dropped his defamation case which caused the other side to drop the assault counter suit. He’s still an extremely negative person that no one wants to be associated with. He’s done in MLB. No one will mention him any more than they are forced to do.
flamingbagofpoop
Dropping the defamation suit isn’t the reason…
briar-patch thatcher
You are a legitimate loser if you’re obsessed with someone who will never see a MLB field again.
Deleted Userr
Hope Lindsey Hill sees this bro!
stymeedone
This is not a Bauer article. Post when appropriate. Its not necessary to ruin every thread with this. There is no news in relation to him signing with anyone.
flamingbagofpoop
There are plenty of articles that get written on this site that have nothing to do with people signing. For example they write about players that may not even be posted. It’s sad that you think you are the comment police.
Deleted Userr
stymeedone the amazing defender of the pitcher win stat thinks he’s the comment police now.
stymeedone
Its sad you feel the need to keep bringing up Bauer.
Deleted Userr
It’s sad that you think pitcher wins are relevant.
Melchez17
Guilty until you can prove your innocence. Then, the public has already decided he was guilty, so it really doesn’t matter no matter how much evidence comes out. They have a 30 second attention span. Their minds were made up when they heard the original story.
deweybelongsinthehall
It won’t happen but a JDM for Turner “swap 2” would be interesting. I believed in JDM rebounding but was very surprised that Turner was as good on and off the field. Both have age related risks but kudos to each and hopefully one is in Boston and the other back with the Dodgers in 24.
stymeedone
If LAD are looking to sign Ohtani, there is no place to play JDM. Bring his veteran RH bat back to Detroit, please.
deweybelongsinthehall
A lot of Ohtani talk but until he signs since I have no personal info, I’m not considering it for this discussion.
stymeedone
JDM was the topic.

“Mariners to spend?” — Ya that’ll be the shortest podcast sound bite. “No. Next topic.” Dipoto has made it clear that he doesn’t want to play the free agent market.
mlb fan
Spending is not really the problem with the Mariners, hitting is. France had a major decline, Kelenic dissapointed and there’s too many feeble hitting Haggertys and Dylan Moores in the lineup each day. But had they signed a “Big Fish” Free Agent like Javy Baez, Carlos Correa or Trevor Story the last couple years, they’d be in even worse shape. They need to trade or draft a consistent + hitter, plain and simple, not tie up their payroll on an older, overpaid free agent bat.
Slothcliff Hokum
Not to mention all the strikeouts… They could do better than Suarez and Hernandez. I wonder what SD would want for Soto’s last year?
Sean The Trucker
Most likely one of Gilbert, Kirby or Miller…. Probably a top level prospect (Harry Ford?)
WeTheOnes
First of all, it’s no longer just Harris as there is now a GM in place. Secondly, ERod will want a no trade clause, more money and years. I am sure that the Tigers are aware of what he is going to ask for and maybe feel that there is just not a way for both sides to be happy with things. Maybe they go sign someone else, or just focus on what they have. They have proven they can develop and optimize pitchers. They can save that money for more offense and focus on some reclamation projects and be better off than having ERod on a new longer deal.. ERod has been solid, but I doubt they are willing to give him another no trade clause along with what he will draw money/year wise on the open market.
stymeedone
Other than DH, there are no FAs worth spending money on that fit the Tigers needs. I would have been sure HARRIS knew which teams were on E-Rod no trade list, and that he had talked with Austin Meadows recently, but I have been wrong on both. I hope you have better luck with what you are sure of.
The Saber-toothed Superfife
Beamer, the Hedgehog, reknown ageist, has his work cut out for him.
There is lots to do.
Melchez17
I hope this Greenberg guy is much better than Harris. Harris took Max Clark over Wyatt Langford… Good God, what a clown move. Langford is so much better than Clark, it’s not funny. The guy has immense power and a great eye at the plate. More walks than K’s… 40 homer power. He’s played a couple games in CF. He’s already at AAA tearing up that league. I bet he makes the opening day roster in 2024. Langford is better than Tork already.
stymeedone
They will both be star players, but yes, Langford has more power and is closer to the majors. Clark has more tools, is faster, and better defensively. No need to rush things. Clark is also younger, so there’s time.
Melchez17
Will all the AL East teams get swept out of the playoffs again?
Tell me again how much better the teams in the AL East are better than the other divisions. LOL
stymeedone
They had to work harder all season, so they be tired.
GarryHarris
All Detroit’s pitchers are returning. Miguel Cabrera’s enormous financial drain is tapped. Javy Baez is NOT required to be in the lineup everyday. I think if the Tigers continue building the core from within, there’s hope for a contender. If they go full out in free agency, no hope.
Ejemp2006
Patience is the key. Tork, Greene, and Karp look like big leaguers and the staff is packed with great, young arms. Its too bad Avila couldn’t come back as the Tigers’ talent scout. He found Cabrera and many others when he was relegated his lane of expertise.
Harris needs to sign some more veterans who can be deadline flips and stay away from all the Baez Zimmerman Cabrera extension stuff. First order of business, admit the deadline mistake and let ERod walk. He’s not Kenny Rogers 2.0. Maybe sign David Robertson on the cheap to be a setup guy who can be flipped.
GarryHarris
I don’t care for acquiring veterans just to flip. They take valuable playing time away from young players who are the future.
The Saber-toothed Superfife
You gotta feel for Poor Al. Beamer, the Hedgehogs’ plan seems to be allow Poor Al’s plan to follow through to it’s fruition…..
Aside from implementing ageism, that is.
Poor Al should get all the credit.
AAATIGERS2020
I’d like to see the Tigers take a flier at J.D. Also, while we’re talking about Bauer, I wouldn’t mind seeing him pitch for the Tigers.
GarryHarris
Trevor Bauer has been as close to black listed as a player can be.
WeTheOnes
The DH spot will be used for Riley Greene until his arm is ready to make throws from the outfield. Then, the way AJ likes to use player flexibility, it will be spread out amongst several guys. Not much on the FA landscape hitting wise that fit their budget or needs, so it very well may come from within and then if they are buyers at the trade deadline, they might upgrade.
