I think the rebuild went sideways because, as mentioned, it was far too pitcher heavy. But, equally impactful, was the complete lack of position player development. Thankfully, they didn’t screw Tork up (but they sure tried). And the organization deserves no credit for Carpenter. Thankfully, he went outside of the organization for his development. Other than “The Big 3”, there hasn’t been a good player come up through the system in forever. There’s always the sure things, but the telling sign is how they haven’t had any impact position players from beyond the 4th round….. I don’t know. I can’t think of any…. The only ones that had MLB success were dealt away and I have to assume that the receiving club deserves much of the credit.

One more thing, E-Rod definitely opts out and he probably isn’t the swell guy that rejected a trade just so he could stay with his beloved Tigers in the city of Detroit. The Athletic reported that he wanted a new deal with an extra year and the Dodgers wouldn’t give it to him. That’s a sign of how he values himself and the type of deal he is looking for. If he thinks he’s worth 4 years/$80-$90 million, the Tigers have to pay him the $90 million to prevent him from opting out. They won’t do that.

Tigers should offer him an additional year with bonus of 3-5 million. If he rejects it then move on, he isn’t that good, sign Lorenzen back to 2 years and option. Hopefully he pitches well enough to not push our young starters too fast. Worst case we trade him again
TroyVan
I think Lorenzen might have been a flash in a pan. I think his first couple/few starts were pretty good for the Phil’s, but I think he cratered after that.
I’m not really on board with signing a big name pitcher. I think we’d do just fine with another Kenny Rogers. I think the kids are ready. Use that money for position players.
I know Tim Anderson had a terrible year, but I wouldn’t mind if they acquired him. Seems the Sox might be headed for a rebuild of some sorts.

Keep that White Sox culture out of Detroit. The Clubhouse is fine. Lets keep it that way.

Probably the worst take on the Tigers I’ve seen this year.

Tim Dierkes is bullish on Matt Chapman? I’m with Steve and you on this one. Great work for everyone all around, though. Love the site.

150 million for a guy that can barely hit his weight? I should have been a baseball player
Missing Michigan
If I Could hit my weight I’d make the Hall of Fame!!
wileycoyote56
I couldn’t hit mine, I’m pushing 270, if I could I’d be Tigers MVP LMAO

Bader as a platoon partner for Meadows isn’t a bad thought. If they can fill the 3B hole, Vierling and Bader as RH compliments in the OF works well.

Since Cabrera is retiring do they still have to pay the million dollar buyout?

Would like to see a closer comparison of the moves made by Al Avila and Scott Harris:
Drafts, Trades, Free agent signings and more.
So far, I am not seeing that Harris is “pushing the needle” any further forward
than Al Avila.
Avila’s draft picks and trades are starting to look better.
Don’t get me wrong, Avila was not the right person for the Tigers rebuild job.
I am not sold on Scott Harris as being a substantial improvement yet.
Harris will have to prove it to fans that he can get a handle on the Tigers rebuild
and deliver where his predecessor did not deliver.
The last Trade Deadline was a disaster for the Tigers.
The Tigers had players that could have been moved to substantially, jump start the rebuild. Harris whiffed at the Trade Deadline.
E Rod could have been, should have been dealt.
Can’t believe the Tigers did not have back up deals teed up for ERod.
And, the Tigers had some valuable bullpen pieces,, position players
and, perhaps, one of their young starters could have also been dealt
for foundational position players who can hit, field, catch etc..
Building a team of utility players is not the answer.

Seems I read somewhere Rogers was to be included with Erod in that Dodgers trade. For there young catcher. So maybe dodged a bullet.
