I.M. Insane
How about not wasting time on that idiotic bees/beads thing and stick to legitimate questions. Obviously a lot of people have real inquires and comments and there’s limited time.
Longtimecoming
IM – I tend to agree with you but I always defer to the golden rule: he who has the gold rules so, when it’s your show it’s your rules.
Fever Pitch Guy
Insane – Yeah it’s dumb as hell, but it takes probably 5 seconds to answer so I don’t mind. It’s not like there’s a limit on number of questions answered.
There’s other aspects that people find far more displeasing, such as his tendency to answer easy questions and to answer 3-5 questions in the same chat from the same person.
drasco036
It’s really stupid but honestly, when has a really intelligent question been answered?
These chats are just a way to engage with the fans of this board, not to actually give you baseball knowledge or answer your legitimate questions.
If you want a question answered, ask a generic question like “where will Ohtani sign”, make a ridiculous trade proposal/contract offer question or ask a question that has been asked 100 times over on a trending player.
stymeedone
Its just his opinion. He really doesn’t have the answer.

Insane, maybe you should ask for a refund…

@3:18; Os players all have a skill or 2 contributing to the cause; agreed. But just as important, no cancer in the club house. Elias has’em all sipping that black and orange Kool Aid.
Samuel
C Yards Jeff;
Whatever.
I listened to a color commentator (ex-MLB player) from a opposing team that was playing the O’s. He noted that the O’s were an “unselfish” team.
The players-buy in because they’re coached up to do something well, and if they do that then the coaches will try to get them to do other things well. In turn the manager (analytic nuts think managers don’t matter) will give players opportunities to do more for the team in certain situations. If they succeed more times than fail, they’ll continue to get added playing time; if not they’ll go back and continue to be used to do what they do well.
What makes the team so good is that when player hits a wall in what he does, the O’s will bring up and acquire other players that have similar skill sets. When injuries occur those players are given opportunities. If they can do more then guys that have hit a wall, they’ll stay and the guys that haven’t improved will be set down, traded, or released A cumulative effect occurs which makes the team so much better.
Last thing – the O’s use analytics extensively. But they don’t use them as people here do – looking at overall stats and coming to judgements. Rather they look to see which pitchers and defenders are keeping the team in games, and then which offensive players are contributing to winning games (in addition to RBI’s, that can be by moving runners up that later score, working walks, hitting sac flies, etc.).
They truly have a great manager, coaches, scouts, and development people at the minor league levels. Like my other favorite teams – the Phillies and Astros – they constantly work to make the players they have under contract better throughout the year, so they can peak during the late Aug-Sept stretch run and playoffs. To those that live by narratives and general public statistics those teams: 1) are Lucky; 2) Got Hot; or 3) only won because “It’s a Crapshoot”.
Saw what the O’s were doing in early 2022 when Rushman came up and everything clicked – he being the final piece of the puzzle. As I wrote then they are going to be very good for a very long time. Primarily because they understand that unlike Rotisserie League, MLB is not about stats vs. stats – it’s about playing smart baseball on the field as a team. Their starting pitching continues to get better and better, and they sure are “Lucky” not to have a lot of injuries. Just a real Lucky team all around. LOL.

P.S.
I questioned whether Cano had the makeup to close the night Bautista was injured. Tonight is an example. He’s fine as an 8th inning set-up guy that can be pulled an out or two into the inning if he doesn’t have it that night, with the closer coming in early (Bautista saved his hide many times as the season unfolded).
I think Hyde will have to resort to a ‘Closer by Committee’ concept as the playoffs unwind. That means hanging onto some combination of Shintaro Fujinami, DL Hall, and Jorge Lopez to take over for Cano if he’s off. Those guys are the same way though – dominant at times, but inconsistent. If one of the three is on his game they’re all better than Cano.
That means that some combination of Coulombe, Webb, and Perez needs to get them to the 8th inning.
P.S.S. I don’t think Flaherty makes the playoff roster, and may even be released before the season ends….and it’s September 8 – where’s John Means?
