Giants chairman Greg Johnson has gone on record a few times to express his support for the club’s baseball operations leadership. He reiterated that sentiment this evening, telling Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and manager Gabe Kapler “will both be (in San Francisco) next year.”
It has been a streaky season for the Giants, who remain right on the edge of contention with two and a half weeks to go. San Francisco sits at 75-71, percentage points above the Diamondbacks and Reds for the last Wild Card spot in the National League. The Giants had gotten as high as 13 games above .500 shortly after the All-Star Break but are just 26-30 in the second half overall. That knocked them out of the playoff picture for a bit, though a recent 5-1 stretch coinciding with cold spells for a few teams above them has put the Giants back in a solid spot.
They’re looking for what would be the second playoff appearance of the Zaidi/Kapler era. Zaidi has been running baseball operations since the 2018-19 offseason; Kapler took over as skipper one year later. They stepped into a transitional period before a shocking 107-win campaign to snap the Dodgers’ streak of NL West titles with one of the best years in franchise history. L.A. vanquished the Giants in the Division Series, and San Francisco has been an average team since that point. They were exactly .500 last year and aren’t far above that mark this season.
San Francisco tried for an impact acquisition last offseason. Their pursuit of Aaron Judge came up short, while the Carlos Correa physical led that agreement to fall through. The Correa saga came after most of the other top free agents were off the board, leading San Francisco to pivot to the volume approach that has defined most of their past few winters. Signings of Michael Conforto, Mitch Haniger, Sean Manaea and Ross Stripling have all yielded middling results in their first seasons, though the addition of Taylor Rogers has mostly worked as anticipated.
The leadership’s track record goes well beyond this past offseason, of course. Prior acquisitions of Thairo Estrada, J.D. Davis and LaMonte Wade Jr. have all been strong low-cost additions. Wilmer Flores has provided four years of quality production since signing in free agency headed into 2020. They’ve felt the effects of missing out on a star position player — particularly as the offense has gone cold in the second half — though the lack of long-term payroll commitments could embolden them to make legitimate runs at Shohei Ohtani or Cody Bellinger this offseason.
Both Zaidi and Kapler are believed to be under contract for next year. Kapler signed an extension running through the ’24 campaign following their standout 2021 season (in which he was named NL Manager of the Year). Zaidi’s contract was a five-year guarantee that spanned through this year, though it also included a team option for the ’24 season. Slusser characterizes that provision more as a team opt-out clause which the organization bypassed when it was available to them a few months ago. Regardless of the specifics, it’s clear both Zaidi and Kapler will return — though they’d each enter the season in lame duck status unless they sign longer-term extensions over the winter.
Might as well give them one more year together.
As a Dodger fan man I am glad, sign them for many more years. The Dodgers almost got stuck with these two running the Dodgers, but luckily the giants were desperate for trash.
107 wins with a no stars on the roster and all aging vets a few years ago. How much money is LA willing to spend every year just to win the pennant?
“107 wins with a no stars”…Today it’s 2023, not a “few years ago”. Sports and MLB is about what you’re doing right now, not “a few years ago”.
You opinion as whatever team you root for is very far off base…MannyMVP is that you?
Makes sense, definitely haven’t done poor enough to be fired. Heck, they still might make it to the postseason because no one wants that third NL wildcard.
They are doing a GREAT job. I’ll take all the hate.
Oh Lord
Zaidi has been there 5 years! He’s only posted one season above .500
Farm system is only marginally better.
Chaim Bloom was Fired today after 4 years in Boston. And actually fielded a team that went to the ALCS
The San Francisco Giants are a Mess and this pathetic statement by Johnson on a day where Bloom gets fired is telling in how different organizations are Committed to WINNING and others are fine with Mediocrity
They’re a mess, but a mess that will likely make the postseason. I blame Zaidi more for the approach to roster construction than I do Kapler for his managing.
Postseason?? Nobody wants to see the kind of shizy baseball SF plays in October.
That sort of catastrophe, if it happened says more about Manfreds money grab / Easy Asss playoff entrance than it does about the Giants or the ridiculously bad line up Zaidi created
If by some mathematical crime they do get in , one of the WORST offenses in MLB gets An all-expenses trip to Milwaukee to face Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddie Peralta
I don’t understand your statement at all, on top coming from a Yankee fan. The Giants scrapped all year long, not having conforto or Haniger, Slater, Wade jr, Cobb, Disco, shall I go on? Still managed to stay in the race. Way less of a payroll than your precious Yankees, but still did better. I do agree with you on the Manfred thing though
@Balk I agree but don’t poo talk the Yankees.
Why not. They are trash, just like the Giants.
I thought the comment was fairly straight forward – the Giants’ offense and pitching/defense are lousy and watching them flounder in a playoff series wouldn’t exactly be must-watch t.v.
I’ve been a Giants fan my entire life, but I must admit that the Zaidi era leaves a lot to be desired. Its just not fun baseball to watch. Collective mediocrity grinding out a season is hard to appreciate much of the time.
At times, I feel like we’re watching a Farhan Zaidi science experiment – and its not the cool kind with an erupting volcano. Its more like a lima bean growing in a plastic cup.
Fullmontila…not every year is a cakewalk. The Giants just like a majority of ball clubs don’t have what it takes…yet. Rise always comes before a fall. Every team goes through it.
Buzz, I’m a Giants fan, and rarely talk trash about any club, I just love the game, but sometimes you have to call out crazy if you know what I mean. Haha
Hahaha ROFLMAO
I’ll bet the Yankees wished they were good enough to enter the easy ass 3rd wild card but alas they’re NOT
The flipside to that argument is that the Giants shouldn’t have been constructed in a manner where the contributions of Haniger, Conforto, Desclafani, Slater, etc. should really be season-determining. These are second and third tier players at best, and shouldn’t make up the beef of your talent.
Gmen…that’s debatable, but you have to ask yourself this, had they been healthy and producing what would there win loss column look like today? Better? I think so…
I’m a Giants fan but I find their brand of baseball is boring, dumpster diving for players, no exciting prospects, never being able to land a high caliber free agent, no personality on the team and basically playing “math ball”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kapler and Zaidi have ChatGPT installed on the iPads telling them what to do.
I hate to say it, but the Dodgers are a way more interesting team to watch… ugh I hate saying that but it’s true.
You talk like those players are stars. In reality, they’re the farthest thing from them.
I mean, of course, right? They’d almost by definition have a better record. But would a healthy Conforto/Haniger/Slater be enough for the Giants to have realistic sights on the NL West title? At some point, we have to acknowledge that they’re relying on the contributions of a healthy vs. injured Austin Slater. Not *insert top level player of choice*, but Austin Slater. I just don’t see most contending teams having to do that.
Why would winning the West matter? Once they are in the playoffs they have just as good of a chance of winning as anyone else.
@27- Not really. NFL, NBA, and NHL all have a higher percentage of teams make the playoffs. Giants happen to be one of the likely 6 best out of 15 in the NL. It says more about how mediocre the NL is compared to the AL.
What does any of that have to do with my comment? Once you are in the playoffs you have just as good of a chance of making the WS as anyone else.
Last season. Phiilies. Worst regular season record in NL.
2021. Braves. Worst regular season record in NL.
What is says is that the NL is more competitive than the AL and they beat up on each other. No runaway teams facing lesser competition day in and day out.
@BIL- I’m not sure if you intended to reply to me, but since you did, my comment had nothing to do with what you said because it was supposed to be directed to 27, as noted in the comment. If it said it was a reply to you, that’s something weird on MLBTR’s end.
You’re right Zeke, but you still have to wash your mouth out with soap for saying it. I’ll do it for agreeing with you.
You’re right Zeke, but you still have to wash your mouth out with soap for saying it. I’ll do the same for agreeing with you.
How is it “likely” they will make the playoffs? They just blew a 9th inning lead to the Rockies and have a 31.3% chance of making the playoffs according to Fangraphs.
@kirk- Because if you look into the odds deeper than just the percentage, their figure is higher than the Marlins’ 27%, which would put them in the 3rd wild card. And for good reason, considering the Marlins’ shortcomings of late.
They fit the market.
You could also say they are on track to have finished .500 or better three years in a row. That’s a discernible improvement over 73 wins in 2018.
Also, Bloom was tasked with dismantling a championship quality roster. Zaidi had a number of bad contracts the team was more or less stuck with. The Giants have not only gotten superior production out of their free agent signings, they have actually used it to acquire additional draft picks. Bloom misspent on countless FAs, with Paxton and Kluber being the latest example. His failure to construct a rotation is why he’s gone
Bloom had a team in a more competitive division. NL West is not that good.
Bloom has indisputably shown poor judgement on FA signings. Boston is spending $38 million this season on Yoshida, Paxton and Kluber. Taking a watered down return for Betts to unload Price was another mistake. The embodiment of pennywise, pound foolish.
Agreed. Only Boston apologists defend Bloom. He was a guy with no winning desire based on his moves. None. He was fortunate Boston reached the postseason in 2021.
San Francisco is a mess, clean up the city… worry about the sports team later?
It is shameful that Charles Johnson is letting his son do this. Absolutely ridiculous. It is as if they are completely oblivious as to how to get the San Francisco market invested in the club. Shame on those bums for being content with a mediocre on-field product that was constructed by a mediocre president of baseball operations, that is being run everyday by a mediocre (at best) coaching staff. 2021 has proven to be a fluke. Are Greg Johnson and Larry Baer content to see Oracle Park at half capacity almost every night? Do they not want to see a full, sold out park every game? Don’t they want more people to buy season tickets? Awful rule changes by Manfraud will not cause that. You know what will? will? A great, must-see on-field product. How do you get a great on-field product? Getting an actual qualified general manager/president of baseball operations, not a wannabe Billy Beane.
The ownership doesn’t care about winning. The stadium is paid off, and Mission Rock is about to become a cash cow. The entity that is the Giants organization is more focused on real estate ventures than winning baseball games. It should be obvious to anyone who has been paying attention the entirety of the Farhan era.
Of course they don’t. That’s why they dropped tens of millions on Papago. That’s why they pay for one of the largest coaching staff in the game. That’s why they get their players anything they desire if it’s going to help them be comfortable. That’s why they offered Correa and Judge 300 plus. Yeah. Your right. No interest in winning in any those manoeuvres.
Once again. Just because they are not trying to win how you think it should be done, doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to win. This is obvious to all the adults in the room.
86 1/2 games behind the Dodgers since Farhan took over. You can admit it. He has failed to put a competitive team on the field. The one team that was good wad the biggest fluke ever. The numbers don’t lie. Last week they had 6 out of 9 starters with an ops under 700. Good teams don’t do that.
Ok. Nice deflection. Now let’s get back to this ownership doesn’t care about winning point.
Cute. You do realize that all 29 teams are behind the Dodgers in that time frame, right? Will you also ignore the fact that the Giants are also 76 games ahead of the Rockies, 58 games ahead of the Diamondbacks and 25 1/2 games ahead of the ELITE Padres since Zaidi took over?
Like, did you really think the Giants would catch the Dodgers in year one? Relax, dude.
Isn’t this year 5?
In case you missed the obvious, the Giants ARE winning. They are also in the playoffs as of today. If they make it, it will be the 2nd time in 3 years.
They were in on the biggest of the big free agents last year and just missed. They will be on Ohtani and others this offseason.
Pull your head out of the oven. Everything is going to be ok.
I love FZ but there is just one thing I don’t understand. Why didn’t FZ make one single improvement at the trade deadline? I honestly figured it was ownership saying win with what you got or Kapler is gone.
I like FZ’s refusal to overpay for talent… but not one single improvement??
(DeJong, Camargo and Pollack were abject downgrades).
Weird.
Hi Wilmer, there wasn’t much to get at the deadline, like who would have made that big of a difference with this club? Would you have given up Luciano, Matos, and Whisenhunt for someone that nets us like 1.5 more wins? Zaidi weighed the options and offers and it wasn’t worth giving up a chunk of the farm for not much improvement.
Hi Aggie! I went over the rosters from the 3 championship teams and all 3 teams the front office brought in huge difference makers. In 2010 it was pure luck with Cody Ross, Javy Lopez and Pat Burrell but in 2012 in was Pence and Scutaro who were essential and in 2014 it was just Peavy and Ishakawa, seemingly minor moves but the Giants don’t win the World Series without them.
I just think FZ needed to do something, anything and he didn’t. I’m clearly not over it yet.
But I will say this, the expanded Wild Card spots definitely make it more of a sellers market that Sabean did not have to contend with.
Hi Wilmer, I think you need to look at who Sabean got at the deadline in 2008 or 2009, because that would be closer to where we are now. Of course nobody knows how far a team will go or when they might catch lightening, but I think you need to ratchet back expectations for our team this year. Farhan has been quietly rebuilding without saying it. It would have been faster if we tanked for a few years but ownership didn’t want that and the fans here can’t handle it. If we tanked, we could have gotten top round picks. As it is, it will take longer to sort out. So he’s been getting platoon guys and fill ins while the kids just begin to arrive. We are still a couple of years from really going for it and then you will see bigger moves at the deadline. As the team currently was, it wasn’t worth giving up our prospects for what was available. Be patient! It’ll come
“Quietly rebuilding since 2015”
Who was there? Who got moved that the Giants could have got without giving up talent? Jordan Montgomery is literally the only one I can think of, but even that would have been borderline.
I’m with you, but the hitting coaches not so much. There’s a pipeline of talent at or just about at major league level. The trouble is, the NL West is full of talent.
Seems that the Giants biggest misstep was losing Donnie Eckler.
Hi foppert, the Giants didn’t lose Donnie Ecker, he took a promotion to bench coach in Texas. Yes he was a great hitting coach but one, the ball was juiced in 2021 and it’s not now so all those warning track fly balls now went out then, two Lind and Viele are teaching the same philosophy as Ecker but hitters still are the ones that have to execute and teams have adjusted.
Yeah. You can’t keep people from moving forward. I get that. But the difference in hitting results since he left is there. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.
The ball was juiced in 2019, not 2021
The hitting coaches are sure to get the axe at season’s end, regardless of if Kap and Zaidi return.
Scott—ownership already exercised the option on Zaidi’s contract for next year, so he will be back. That is not even in question and it’s ridiculous people keep bringing it up.
If Zaidi signs an extension beyond next year is dependent on many factors including if Zaidi wants to stay or not. Nobody knows how tight ownership has been with his allowance to spend or any details of his tenure as president so all of the guessing on social media is just that, guesses.
As far as the hitting coaches getting fired, how are you so sure? People blurting out statements like this without proof is preposterous. Sure they might get fired. They might not. Until it happens or a statement is made by the front office, anything is just more guessing again and has no basis in reality
Agnes,
What kind of proof do you need? The clear weakness on this team, especially post-deadline, has been hitting drying up. There are other problems, yes, but there’s been a consistent decline all season in the bats. It’s hard to say if that’s a cause and effect thing or not when it comes to the hitting coach, but just like when an underperforming team’s manager gets the axe whether or not their actions were truly the culprit, so, to it goes for the hitting coaches.
The decline in hits has lead to many, many games where the team walked away with a loss or just plain failed to get caught up enough to be competitive. That could well be the final mitigating factor when it comes to whether this team reaches the playoffs or not. As it stands, it’s an uphill climb because the team has struggled so much to offer run support.
Scott—I watch every game. I see it too. That does not mean the hitting coaches are getting fired. You cannot say that will happen without it either happening or someone credible saying it will. Until then it’s just a guess. If you want to say you think they should get fired, that’s fine, but saying they will for sure without a credible source, then that’s not reality.
Pete Alonso was available he just didn’t get traded. It would have taken at least 2-3 of the top prospects like Luciano, Harrison, Matos but if they really wanted to make a splash they could have worked something out. Or they could have traded Cobb and Manaea and possibly even JD and Joc since it was such a sellers market! No moves was the move and here they are farting along embarrassing their fans and baseball with this Frankenstein team.
frugal—are you a member of the front office? If not then you have NO idea who was offered for who at the deadline. I’d love to get Alonso but after how Zaidi stole 4 players for Darin Ruf in 2022 from the Mets, I’m sure they didn’t want a repeat in 2023. That Ruf trade became infamous. You have no idea what was offered for Cobb or Manaea either. Whatever it was, it wasn’t worth trading them, they have both been great so you would have complained if Zaidi had traded them. Hindsight is always 20/20, if you are so smart then get a front office job.
Just curious, when was the last great Giants homegrown player? By my estimations, it’s Posey, Lincecum, Cain, Belt.
Nothing since but hype and underperformance.
Webb is one of the new crop that’s panned out.
You don’t have to say people’s names when you respond directly to their comment, boomer.
Kirk, the way this board is threaded you don’t necessarily know who is being responded to. So if you have nothing to add about baseball go back to tik tok kid.
Yes you do Reuter, MLBTR comments do not nest properly so you do not know who is responding to who. And I am NOT a boomer. Kirk Reuter is a nice guy and would never be so rude. Change your name or be nice. No reason to be hostile
Bumgarner says hi.
Both are under contract for next season but both should be feeling their seats getting warm
Agreed!
I only follow the Giants superficially because they’re not my team, but I’ve always found Kapler to be quite the odd duck when it comes to major league managers. He seems to genuinely care for every player on his team and has candid and emotional insights regarding those players that I have heard in post-game interviews. So I assume he is regarded as a “player’s manager”, probably to an excessive extent lol…but how are his on-field baseball decisions?? Can those be questioned? Are there players who chafe at his seemingly “touchy-feely” style? Or have I misconstrued him altogether??? Thnx for any feedback.
Kapler’s on the field decisions are head scratching most of the time (like pinch hitting for Mitch Haniger even though he Homered in his previous AB).
The biggest part of the Giants problem is the bloated coaching staff Kapler employs. There are 17 coaches currently on the Giants staff including 3 hitting coaches, 3 pitching coaches and 3 “assistant” coaches. There are too many voices in the room for everyone to be on the same page and definitely too many cooks in the kitchen
That’s not what the players say. They always speak highly of the support on offer.
As a Dodgers fan this is good news to hear. I want the Padres and Giants to keep doing what they’re doing.
Sounds about right. No issues big enough to dismiss either. Yes health has been a big factor. But that’s the case with other teams as well. When you buy injured guys cheap, they get injured. 2024/25 to me was always the date for contention. And it’s here now. Ohtani would be great. I hope they can still get him to help the offense. Maybe another Starter. Shortstop. A healthy outfield would go along way. I understand yaz has had a better year, but he’s always out. And they Need to cut the Strikeouts! That’s a priority. Some of these guys will probably be here another year. But the K’s has to get cut down period. And the defense. But that goes with injuries. Everyone has spent time on the IL.
Next year we’ll see. Keep going for the wild card this year. Maybe get in. Maybe Webb gets us past the first game. Maybe we win the first round. Then anything can happen.
Giants: “Welcome back, Mr Kapler! Welcome back welcome back”
Sad day for Giants fans. Ownership burying their heads in the sand and kicking the can down the road instead of dealing with the problems.
At least Ref Sox weren’t afraid to make changes. And Mets have begun making changes hiring Stearn and ready to make other necessary changes.
Hilarious. What are you talking about ? Every day is a sad day for you.
“Mother ^*+%er”
– Mitch Haniger, probably
Well, nut anymore.
Dodgers fans everywhere are stoked.
Damn it. Only 1 year.
I hope ownership gives Zaidi a 10 year extension!!!
All the hatted he receives is racist and uneducated echo chamber material, it makes me nauseous how vile people can be. They would never say they stuff they say online to his face. People have lost their compassion and kindness. I honor Zaidi not only as a thoughtful hard working human but just as a human. Everyone needs to respect eachother and treat people with dignity.
Child like mentalities are always going to cry and get all spiteful when they don’t get what they want. Best just to mock them !
I’m always down for a good mocking…
Stay tuned.
Or maybe we have been watching the 5 years he has been in charge and realize the team still sucks. He can’t sign talented players in free agency, and hasn’t developed anyone to speak of. He let Gausman walk, and his failure to improve the roster with glaring holes at the deadline was basically malpractice. If you think his performance merits a 10 year extension, you must be his mother.
The $48 million dollars he guaranteed to Manaea and Stripling should be reason enough to fire him and that’s without mentioning the DeSclafani extension…
They can’t hear you with their heads that deep in the sand. Those of us who live in reality are in complete agreement.
What about if they had signed Rodon instead ? Like you wanted. Sackable offence ?
Who said i wanted them to sign Rodon?
Not directed at you.
Only racists think things like this are about race. Way to out yourself.
flaming bag of poop. I am Caucasian, actually Italian which at one time was considered brown. Don’t call out people unless you know.
Stating facts and pointing out poor results isnt racist.
Basebombs, I have seen plenty of overtly racist comments directed at Zaidi. It’s not ok in any way
Giants won’t even finish above.500 let alone make the Playoffs due to their last 12 games against the Dbacks, Dodgers and Padres.
It would be hilarious to see Giants or Diamondbacks win the World Series just to show how inept this Wild Card setup is.
Two under .500 teams in the WS could happen one year so let’s have two MORE teams in tournament soon.
Can we just jump to 2025. As long as Kapler is managing this team they are stuck in the quagmire of mediocrity. He has only one season above .500 to his record. As the saying goes doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.
Farhan Zaidi don’t know how to sign any everyday player or pitcher beyond 3 years. Gabe Kapler don’t know how to manage.
Zaidi for me is really hard to judge.he has done a good job finding talent on the margins and having a lot of depth kinda like dodgers style, where he finds some reclamation projects and making them good.he seems to have invested a lot in coaching, analytics and stuff like that.
However on the minor league level that coaching hasn’t really quite come through yet.they had some good ranked prospects but so far not much ML production from it. The drafting really has been quite bad too, bart, bishop look like busts and bednar and crawford are very far away and haven’t shown much so far.
The highly rated prospects also didn’t come through much either. Luis Matos looks solid but probably more an average guy who will give you 280 with 14 Homers a year. That is a nice player that helps a team but not really a force in the middle of the lineup.
Kyle Harrison has potential but huge walk issues.luciano has potential but huge K issues and Casey Schmitt is a great defender but can’t take a Walk to save his life.
Overall the farm isn’t terrible and the roster is deep but they are really lacking the star power.
Regarding free agent signings they did come short on some big time signings but otherwise they got a lot of solid but not great guys.
They have a lot of depth of 1.5-3 war players and that is important but compared to the dodgers or Braves they lack the 4-5 war guys.
I’m not quite sure what the plan is in San Francisco.they aren’t running a huge payroll like they have done in the past but they also weren’t able to build a monster farm System, they are kinda stuck in between being a low to high 80s win team which sometimes gets to a playoff spot (2021 obviously was a huge exception).
Zaidi is almost running the giants like the As were run when they where good, trying to make smart moves on the margins but neither really spending nor really rebuilding.
Giants are a platoon team and it’s an awful product to watch
Platooning is my biggest complaint with Kapler. I understand it keeps everyone fresh and ready but I want to see a fairly regular set lineup. Been awhile since Giants fans have seen a set lineup because of all the analytical crap these days. Frustrating
The Giants are good at marketing – they sell dreams to desperate fans who will believe anything. Farm system? Yeah, Schmitt can’t hit. Harrison is looking like Hunter Strickland – one pitch clown. Luciano – injured all the time. Drafting Bishop instead of Carroll. Drafting Bednar instead of Matt McClain. And his FA signings are horrible. Conforto. Hanniger. Wood. Stripling. But as long as the bar is lowered to .500 making the playoffs, the Giants will sell BS and many fans will buy it.
Hey True, you need to change your name to True Doomer or True End of the World. Lol! You are NOT a true Giants fan. I would hate to be you and see the world through such a dismal hateful lens. Get off your phone and get out and talk to real people once in awhile. It’s refreshing.
Go examine every free agent signing and every draft pick from every front office. There are hits and misses everywhere. It’s easy to cherry pick the bad ones on any team and throw the front office under the bus.
86 1/2 games behind the Dodgers since Farhan took over. That’s just the reality of the situation. Can’t put lipstick on that pig. Being realistic doesn’t make one not a real fan.
ted—What have the dodgers won? One mini Covid World Series? 60 games does not make a real season and everyone knows it
Haha. You are definitely a real fan. Just one of the ones that are incapable of acknowledging that you mightn’t know everything.
I like how you conveniently left out all the free agent signings that have been good or even exceeded expectations (Wilmer Flores, Joc, Gausman, Rodón, Taylor Rogers, Brebbia, etc.) Whatever.
True is dropping facts!
How many accounts are you going to create ?
Ditto previous approving comments from Dodgers fans. Kapler was the favorite for the Dodgers manager job until Roberts killed it in the interview. Dodged a bullet, they did, an instance in which “Dodgers” was literally true!
Kapler brings out the worst version of the 26 man roster sans Wilmer. Soooo many players below their career averages. WHY is he allowed to have another year? Who got better under him this year (excluding Wilmer)?
Kapler’s performance is garbage – Kapler is garbage. Get rid of him ASAP. It’s not the roster – it’s G A B E.
Agreed. Kepler can kick rocks. He’s would probably pinch-manage for himself if Bochy was the bench coach.
“Based on the analytics at the time, my winning percentage in games decided by less than 4 runs is far less than Boch’s. I decided to pull myself for him to give us a better chance at winning”
Gabe needs to go somewhere else. I don’t think players like playing for him. You can’t manage by numbers alone. You have to know your players. Let’s see who decides to come over and play in the Bay this winter.
