It is now September, which means it’s time for the final few weeks of the regular season and time for expanded rosters. Each club can now carry 28 players instead of 26, with the pitcher limit pushed from 13 to 14. We’ve already covered some 40-man transactions but this will be a full round-up of all the moves around the league.

You can see some IL manipulation in that list

IL…keep up
raisinsss
Surely the hill to die on is arguing that the list for injured, non-disabled, baseball players should continue to be called the ‘disabled list.’
ac000000
If you run lower than 28 men. Does that save you cash? With Angels trying to get below the tax threshold, could they run only 24/25 and save another 400k
vtadave
no
DBH1969
A team has to have a min of 25 men, 27 after September. But even of you cut somebody, you are still on the hook for the salary, as the salary is guaranteed
twentyfivemanroster
I thought it was required to have 28 in September. Nothing more, nothing less.
DBH1969
Hmm. Now I am not sure with the new cba.
DBH1969
@25man… I just looked it up. You are correct. 28 in September, no more, no less.

The Martian and The Kraken are virtually the same players. Hell, I’m not even convinced Volpe is going to pan out to be 10% of what Jeets was in his prime. Yankees need to revamp their entire team and front office!
filihok
Yanks2: Volpe has been worth 2.2 fWAR this season so far
Jeter’s b3st season was 7.4 fWAR.
2.2 is nearly 30% of 7.4
It would appear that you are wrong.

I like that the list didn’t begin with AL East. It’s a silly thing, I know, but it’s nice to see that east coast teams are not the default starting place. Oddly enough, I’m an east coast guy who roots for an east coast team.
holycowdude
@Captain-Judge99 – I’m rooting for Jasson and loved to see it…even more so that it was off Verlander. But that was hardly a “moonshot.” It barely cleared the left field wall which is one of the shortest porches in MLB.
Also, i hate the Yankees. GO BRAVES! 🙂
HalosHeavenJJ
We have a whole new team!
Seriously, excited for KP (Kyren). Great young man. Love seeing a guy reach his dream. Especially when they’ve been nice to you on the way up.

A broken down Crawford over Fitzgerald and Winn over Miller? JHC Giants just tell us you think you have no chance at the playoffs..
myaccount2
Do you mean Erik Miller, the guy whose thrown 37 BB in 53.2 IP this season?
skullbreathe
Yeah’ the guy who has a 2.70 ERA vs Winn’s 4.81? Or that guy with a WHIP of 1.29 vs 1.59? Or maybe an opponent’s BA. of .156 vs .284? As for the BB, it’s 33 vs 26. Miller has pitched more innings. This was a lazy and stupid decision for Crawford and Winn. It signals that even the Giants management doesn’t think they can make the playoffs.
myaccount2
You are way overrating Miller. Winn can eat innings and his upside is much greater (also, almost a full 3 less BB/9). Miller profiles as a guy who is up and down for 5 seasons before out of the league for good.
His stuff can play against AAA guys but would be mediocre in the pros combined with his 20 rated control. I’m not sure what would give someone the idea that 6.85 BB/9 would play in the MLB. By the way, his AAA xFIP is just below 5.00

I thought Cleveland also picked up Gio.
layventsky
They did. Either he was activated immediately after being claimed (i.e. before roster expansion) or he hasn’t been activated yet.
oscar gamble
According to Francon’s pre-game radio interview with Tom Hamilton Giolito was scheduled to arrive in Cleveland last night after the game started. Francona said he would report to the ballpark on Saturday and they’d make a move then. They will have to option a pitcher as they already have 14 active pitchers and that’s all they are allowed to have with the 28 man roster.

Hagan Danner; decent year on the mound and makes a heck of an ice cream
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Surprised the Spiders didn’t add Lucus Giolito as well. Unless he was added immediately after getting claimed.
