1:30pm: The Red Sox have now officially announced these moves.
10:08am: The Red Sox are planning to designate right-hander Dinelson Lamet for assignment as part of a series of roster moves, reports MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith. His spot on the roster will go to veteran righty Kyle Barraclough, whose contract is being selected from Triple-A Worcester. Boston is also set to recall lefty Brandon Walter from Worcester, with righty Nick Robertson being optioned there in his place.
Lamet’s stay on Boston’s big league roster will prove extremely brief. The former Padres and Rockies hurler was only just selected to the Majors two days ago. He appeared in one game, serving up three runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout and a wild pitch in two innings of work.
Lamet was a legitimate Cy Young contender during the shortened 2020 season, but injuries have been a major issue for the 31-year-old righty in the seasons since. He’s encountered a biceps strain, a UCL sprain, forearm inflammation and a hip injury that required a “cleanup” procedure in the years since that scintillating 2020 effort (wherein he posted a 2.09 ERA and 34.8% strikeout rate in a dozen starts).
Including this brief, unsightly stop with the BoSox, Lamet has a 6.81 ERA in his past 107 big league innings. While he had pitched decently over in Worcester prior to his call to the big leagues, Lamet will make a quick exit in favor of a fresh arm — fellow veteran hurler Barraclough.
The 33-year-old Barraclough has appeared in 288 big league games, all coming out of the bullpen, and posted a 3.61 ERA with a very strong 28.9% strikeout rate but also a woeful 14% walk rate. The bulk of his Major League success came early in his career with the Marlins, from 2015-18. Since that time, he’s logged just 55 2/3 innings while pitching to a 5.17 ERA.
Interestingly, the Red Sox have been using Barraclough as a starter in Worcester, and the experiment has gone quite well. Seven of his eight appearances since signing out of the independent Atlantic League have been starts, and Barraclough has recorded a sharp 2.57 ERA in 42 innings. Granted, his strikeout rate is down considerably (17.8%), and walks remain an issue (11.9%). The Sox either see more to like in Barraclough than Lamet or simply need another fresh arm after Kutter Crawford was knocked out of the game in the fourth inning yesterday, leading to three relievers covering 5 2/3 innings. Lamet and Robertson combined to cover five of those frames.
Now that the trade deadline has come and gone, the Sox’ only options with Lamet are to place him on outright waivers or release waivers. He has more than five years of big league service, so he’ll be able to reject a minor league assignment and become a free agent even if he goes unclaimed. Because of that service time, he’d have been a free agent at season’s end even if he’d stuck on Boston’s roster and performed well for the remainder of the year.
Barraclough, meanwhile, entered the season with 4.089 years of Major League service. The most he’ll be able to accrue from here on out is 54 days, which would leave him shy of five years of service, thus making him eligible to be retained another two seasons via arbitration. There’s quite a ways to go before that’s even a consideration, and it’s likelier that Barraclough will have a brief stay on the roster himself, but that remaining club control is at least worth noting in the event that he sustains his Triple-A pace in the big leagues.

And 3000 miles away RB smiles .. ( though that’s how long HIS leash was in Boston)
JoeBrady
I’m waiting for folks to start blaming Bloom for cutting Brasier.
But honestly, some of this looks ridiculous. In April or May, bringing in a #8 RP, to see if he has some upside, makes sense. I’d have been fine with Lamet in May, but promoting him in August and using him in a 3-2 game made no sense to me.
Dogbone
All these guys being released will all be great additions for the White Sox pitching staff.
Bring back Ricky Renteria!!!

Bring back Jackie to?

I’m good without the Renteria part. Dude sucked ass. That is why nobody has interviewed him since.

GASoxFan
Bloom waited too long to cut brasier.
Sometimes guys need a change of scenery and different coaches. Brasier became that guy.
But as far as some of this looking ridiculous to you Joe? Might be you’re starting to take on the view of the rest of our menagerie on a lot of what bloom does.
There’s certain organizations that just seem to be able to squeeze something extra out of old declining pitchers or guys who just lost it. Boston really hasn’t had the staff that does that, which, is one reason these types of moves seem so out of place for them.
Fever Pitch Guy
GASox – It’s an organization-wide problem, they simply cannot “fix” pitchers as well as other organizations can.
Ultimately, the blame falls on Bloom because he’s the one who hired the manager and coaching staff.
JoeBrady
A couple of things go into that.
I find that too many of the whiners just make schitt up so they can be negative. Basically, find out what didn’t work, and find a way to blame either Bloom or Cora, or both. It’s been like this going back to the Tito/Theo days when we got used to winning 95 every year.
I don’t do that. The folks that lose their schitt everytime we pick up a Garza, conveniently forget that we also picked up Schreiber & Bernardino the same way. And forgot that we converted Pivetta into a highly-successful RP.
I understand that the success rate on waiver claims is low, so the fact that they usually fail doesn’t bother me. I’m realistic.
Lamet is not a horrible gamble. It is the timing that is horrible. When you can only afford 18 more losses, you don’t have the luxury of interviewing someone for a job. We should’ve used Wink and some other guys. There will be other blowouts where the #7/8 guys can be used.
DBH1969
@Joe. Dude! You’re not really comparing Cora/Bloom to Francona/Theo, are you?
The 2000 to 2013 teams has superstars, future hall of famers, and bunch of home grown talent supplemented by a support cast, each of whom had a specific role to play. The Sox today are NOTHING like those teams.
I would take Theo and his group, even with his silly man crushes on players like Drew anyday over what we have in the FO today, bro.
JoeBrady
You’re not really comparing Cora/Bloom to Francona/Theo, are you?
==============================
I am comparing the fan reaction to both pairs. Some fans, the true idiots, referred to Theo as “Inepstein’, and referred to Tito as “Francoma”.
Both are 1st ballot HOFers, but like I have always said, the RS have some of the stupidest fans in BB, as well as some of the smartest.
DBH1969
Lol. Well, we are an intense group, that’s for sure lol
Troy Percival's iPad
Mad at myself for never using “Inepstien” for Matsuzaka, never trading Buccholz, etc. (for Cubs fans, Jason Heyward was never worth $186 million)
Boxscore
Re: Schreiber ect… If Bloom throws enough at the wall something is bound to stick. The bottom line as John Henry has said is results Chaim Bloom has been in charge for almost 4 years and the franchise is worse than how he found it. Soon to be 3 last place finishes in his 4 seasons here with no real tangible successes in the draft, trades or FA signings. He needs to go.
Cooperdooper7
Just like blaming Connor Wong for the 6 stolen bases by KC last night….. which is not his fault, but really blame should go directly to the Pitching Coach… and the Manager. By the way, Cora was not Bloom’s choice, he was Henry’s, Werners, Sam Kennedy etc… choice.
GASoxFan
Joe – I think the timing on Lamet, and Urias, and any other moves that seem oddly timed for where the team is win-wise can be explained fairly simply:
Look to chaim’s deadline moves, or lack there of, and, his quote trying to cast the squad as underdogs despite on a pre-trade-acquisition basis leaguewide they stacked up fairly well had boston been aggressive buyers.
This is the same MO as bloom had used prior years. Let the existing squad try to play their way into something more or less on their own, while a) preserving prospect stocks, and, b) auditioning from fringe and buy-low pickups to see if they can be building blocks for the following season.
If you use that lens and look at this year, and all the others where bloom didn’t push his chips in like other gm/pbo choose to, things make more sense.
Yes, it’s a degree of punting on the season without actually doing so, but, it’s how they’ve been choosing to do it.
DBH1969
@GA, that was his style with the rays, too. Difference is market size. When he was there, their fans expected a last place finish, and if they were a contender for a year it was a major victory. This is Boston. Any year not in the playoffs is a fail.
I am seeing calls from fans for Henry to sell the team in the Boston newspapers. Comment after comment of Henry needs to go. Haven’t really seen it before. Sure, there would be 1 or 2 month. But Hersld, Globe… doent matter, seems like people are ready to grab pitchforks lol
JoeBrady
and the franchise is worse than how he found it.
===============
That’s a matter of opinion. Bloom inherited a .519 team that is now playing .513. But we are under the salary cap instead of being the most expensive team in BB. And we have roughly a #12 farm as opposed to a #30.
GASoxFan
DBH – the irony most people don’t even know is that while Henry is still the principal owner via controlling the most shares, on his own he isn’t even a majority owner any longer.
That is right, John Henry. Largest shareholder of the Boston red sox personally owns less than 50% of the shares of the team.
He couldn’t choose to sell control of the franchise on his own if he wanted to. Ownership is that fractured.
JoeBrady
I think the timing on Lamet, and Urias,
=========================
I was good with the timing on Urias. He was hitting well in AAA, and we weren’t really getting anything out of 2nd anyway.
Yes, it’s a degree of punting on the season without actually doing so, but, it’s how they’ve been choosing to do it.
=============================
That’s about right, and I have no disagreement with it. As I mentioned, I’d have liked to have picked up Monty or Matz, but I can also understand that we would be trading to mostly make the last WC slot. For a team like Miami, Philly, etc., that’s okay. But having won 4x in 20 years, hoping to get the last slot, which gives a 1:16 chance at best, doesn’t move the needle that much for me.
JoeBrady
people are ready to grab pitchforks lol
=============================
These are the exact same people that couldn’t wait to run Theo & Tito out of town.
JoeBrady
the irony most people don’t even know is that while Henry is still the principal owner
=============================
I’d say it is more ironic that Henry is the best owner in RS history, and just like with Theo & Tito, some of the nimrods cannot wait to replace him.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joseph – Do HOF players go through bad stretches in their career?
Oh really, they do?
And so do HOF managers.
Red Sox fans had every right to get on Tito when he was an addict living in a motel room and sending inappropriate pics to girls, he shouldn’t have been managing a little league team then … let alone a ML team.
He WAS the cause of the worst collapse in MLB history during the last month of 2011, John Henry WAS well justified in firing him.
Good for Tito getting back on the right path, but that doesn’t change the fact he was an awful manager at times.
Do I really need to go there with Theo too?
Fever Pitch Guy
DBH – New Yorker and Yankee fan, don’t let them try to represent Red Sox fans. LOL!
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – And two years later, with a new GM and Manager, guess who won the World Series.
The time was right for them to both go, after the worst collapse in MLB history.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – The only nimrods are those who can’t accept the fact that past success doesn’t always translate to future success.
Grady Little averaged 94 wins and made it to the ALCS 50% of the time, I don’t doubt you thought he was the greatest manager in MLB too.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – You should have quit while you were ahead.
There is a price to pay for the 22 out of 24 crap pitchers that have gotten cycled through the Red Sox pitching staff.
The number of games lost by the 22 far outweighs the number of games won by the 2, not to mention the wasted roster spaces.
And as much as I like him, it’s a little too early to call Bernie a success story. So far so good though.
Boxscore
If you like last place. I don’t.
JoeBrady
Sure go there with Theo. He’s probably the best GM in history, but entertain me.
And the reason why we collapsed in September is because our rotation was in shambles. Our ERA was one full run worse than anyone in the league.
JoeBrady
Like I mentioned elsewhere, we do not have enough pitching. With four guys on the DL, we have only 10 ML-worthy pitchers on the 40-man squad. The other three have to come from somewhere.
Fever Pitch Guy
DBH – No postseason 4 out of 5 years would anger any fanbase. It’s inexcusable for a passionate large market team with plenty of financial resources.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – 30th? Link please.
Murphy
Walter
Crawford
Bello
Houck
Duran
Casas
Rafaela
All inherited by Bloom.
Say their names Joe.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – “He was hitting well in AAA”. Rookie mistake dude, thinking that matters. Dalbec hits well in AAA, Franchy does too.
Remember Suit hyping Story’s AAA numbers a few days ago? Story is 0-for-8 with 6 strikeouts against the lowly Royals.
AAA pitching should never be compared to even the worst MLB pitching staffs.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – Yes I agree with you, this was a poorly assembled team AGAIN by Bloom. Three of the injured four have extensive injury histories and shouldn’t have been relied on. Look at the Jays, they are playing without their best position player and best starting pitcher so why are they still winning? Because they began the season with 6 talented and durable starting pitchers. Imagine that.
JoeBrady
8 players, 9.9 bWAR.
From FG, 2019 rankings-we are last by a decent margin.
fangraphs.com/prospects/farm-system-rankings/2019-…
We didn’t have a prospect above a 45 FV
JoeBrady
Dalbec hits well in AAA, Franchy does too.
============================
No, he doesn’t. Dalbec has a 119 Ks in 305 ABs this year in AAA. That’s why he cannot hit in the pros.
Franchy has 329 Ks in 1,039 ABs in AAA. That’s why he cannot hit in the pros.
JoeBrady
Because they began the season with 6 talented and durable starting pitchers.
==========================
Incorrect. They started the season 5 five durable pitchers, and one SP that was on the DL until August.

Red Sox Top Prospects 23 october 2019:
Casas – 50 FV, #1 (77 prospect ranking), A/A+, 19 Age
Dalbec – 45 +FV, #5 AA/AAA, 24 Age
Duran – 45 +FV, #6 A+/AA, 23 Age
Houck – 45 +FV, #7 AA/AAA, 23 Age
Murphy – 40 FV, #13 A(Short), 21 Age
Bello – 40 FV, #17 A(Full), 20 Age
Rafaela – 40 FV, #19 A(Short), 19 Age
Crawford – 40 FV, #47, A+/AA, 23 Age
Walter – 40 FV, #50+, Rsx(Rok), 23 Age
Only one prospect from your list was estimated as a middle player or higher middle when Bloom became GM – this Casas.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – Doesn’t that speak to their inability to accurately assess farm systems? I mean really, Casas not above 45? Are they putting too much weight into defense and baserunning? Duran not above 45? Bello not above 45? Really?
I can’t tell, is that ranking preseason?
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – Nobody on this planet is gonna agree with you on Dalbec. He’s a .989 OPS hitter right now, the reason he’s in AAA is because his performance drops significantly while playing in the majors and he has no position there with Casas and Devers locked in. You know that I’m sure.
As for Franchy, 1.004 OPS in AAA this year.
My point stands, minor league success often doesn’t translate to major league success. AAA pitching is a huge drop in quality.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – You seem to have mixed up the words “durable” and “healthy”.
Durable pitchers can still eventually suffer an injury, ever heard of Bronson Arroyo?
Look at Ryu’s GS from 2019 until he suffered the injury in 2022, then get back to me.
Fever Pitch Guy
Bogie – Thank you for pointing out how poorly Red Sox prospects were graded after 2019.
@bogie2X
Fever Pitch Guy
Let us take apart one after another:
It is estimations on 2019 – 2020
Casas – higher middle force, hit instrument, hand, field; at run below the average is a general estimation 55.
Duran – speed an elite 70, hit instrument, is higher than middle, defence below the average, hand below the average is a general estimation 45+ ; his defence at once was put under suspicion, that we saw in the first two seasons, this year he became better in defence, however his hand causes many questions until now.
Houck – fastball 55, slider 60, the third transmission is not worked out therefore he caused suspicion as a lasting starter is a general estimation 45+.
Dalbec – higher middle force, hand; below the average hit instrument, at run, field; general estimation 45.
His problem a dish had obvious from more minor leagues, he didn’t correct this problem until now.
To what it led we saw in the matches of Major League.
Bello – fastball 60, slider 55, changeup 50, ceiling of middle starter; general estimation 45+.
Carried out a breach in this season when in an offseason did some work with Pedro Martinez.
Murphy – fastball 55, slider 55, potential number 4, general estimation 45; has problems with control therefore there is suspicion whether he will come forward as a starter is in a long-term prospect.
Walter – fastball 55, slider 60, control 60; general estimation 45+ ; the best left-handed person and has the best control in the system of Red Sox, has a high floor as left pitcher with a few innings, if changeup will improve that can become a backend starter in a long-term prospect.
In 2018 undergoed an operation of TJ.
Crawford – cutter 55, doesn’t have the high ceiling; general estimation 45; it can be in mix middle pitcher / backend starter.
Made breakthrough in this season as starting pitcher.
Rafaela – higher middle hand, field, at run, defence ; below the average hit instrument, force; general estimation 45.
Has the aggressive going near a dish, it is needed anymore to work on discipline.
I’m sure that to the last year’s breach of Rafaela you about him nothing was known.
Whatever estimations of players don’t you agree with?
You can give the arguments – I honour attentively.

Joe I feel I follow the Sox pretty close ,but hell I have no idea who so many of these pitchers are??? Man can’t wait to share my kaleb Ort story.. he could become my new Braiser if he makes it back after injury…
GASoxFan
Ort has job security by virtue of being on the 60-day and not counting against the 40-man, that may be the one thing that lets him stick around into the offseason/spring.
Fever Pitch Guy
olmtiant – They are bodies, nothing more.
Just a way to fill out the 13-man pitching staff as cheaply as possible. The numbers tell the story.
Fever Pitch Guy
Joe – It feels great when I read one of your posts and nod in total agreement.
My only question, at what point will people start asking why Bloom keeps cycling these crap pitchers in and out when the farm system is supposedly good now. WHEN will people start asking why up and coming young pitchers are not being promoted from Worcester? Certainly they can’t be any worse than the crap pitchers Bloom is pulling from the garbage bin.
JoeBrady
IMO, Walter should have already been on the team. Lamet & Robertson are the lottery tickets you buy in April & May.
But having said that, Walter is not a huge prospect, and Bearclaw is as likely to fail as Lamet & Robertson. He has a 28/19 K/W in AAA, and hasn’t been good since 2017.
The issue is having four legit MLB pitchers on the DL at the same time. There is no one on the 40 in the minor leagues that can pitch. None.
Cooperdooper7
Alex Cora putting a guy that has been out the entire year in the 3 hole his first game back makes no sense either…but typical of the moronic decisions he makes on a daily basis.

Not that this club provides much of that.

Ham Lambert
Red Sox Fans,
Explain this to me.
Why wouldn’t we try Rafaela at 2nd base? He was an outstanding SS and more than capable. I mean if we are gonna run Turner out there why not? It would be an easy way to get his bat in the line up and his feet wet. Not trading Verdugo or Duval squeezes him out of our outfield but he’s ready to hit at the mlb level. Tell me why I’m wrong.
DBH1969
@Ham Lambert
He has only played about 20 games at second his entire minor league time, and that is not recent. He has over 400 games in the outfield. Haven’t we seen enough out of position play this year? It has been a complete fail. Why ruin this kids career just because the FO has been to incompetent to sign a real 2B other than the one they just DFAd?
okbud
It would look like a mini Giancarlo Stanton with the swing and miss. We’re not seeing him this year. And to be honest, I don’t like his chances to be a good big leaguer, guy can’t take pitches to save his life.
'Tang It
You haven’t been watching him lately then. He’s been much more patient. We’ll see if it translates, but I think there’s a decent chance verdugo is traded and he starts with Boston next year.
okbud
We’ll see. It’s probably not right of me to write him off already, but his plate discipline across his career is awfully concerning. Because I’ve heard this comparison a few times (like from the defense), Mookie Betts in the minors had 1.3 walks per strikeout on average and was at his best rated the number 62 prospect in baseball (MLB). Rafaela has 1 walk for every 3.5 strikeouts during his minors career. I’m not saying he can’t be a good player because of it, but it certainly concerns me that he’s swinging for the fences.
I would much rather see him exchange some of the power (at least in the short term) for some plate discipline. If I am sticking with Mookie, fundamentally he was always solid but he was allowed to grow into the power to great success.
MLB-1971
Tang – Agreed that Verdugo is traded! Publicly calling out Verdugo twice this year for lack of hustle, last year of controllability, big free agent raise for a player not worth it….Benintendi 2.0! He does not hit for enough power for someone who does not steal bases (redundant with Duran).
JoeBrady
Why wouldn’t we try Rafaela at 2nd base?
===========================
Probably the 32/7 K/W in AAA, and the fact that he has very little experience at 2nd. My guess is that his K/W morphs into something like 175/25 in the pros. As I’ve explained to fans of Kelenic, Adell, Baty, Volpe, etc., AAA exists for a reason.
And, except for the injury, I cannot imagine Rafaela out-performing JT at this point, and I doubt it is even close.
Ham Lambert
I see your points. But Mookie is back playing in the infield. Hell, we actually put Dalbec at shortstop. Rafaela is that good of an athlete.
okbud
Ham, we’ve got enough middle infield prospects for 10 teams. I’m exaggerating slightly but it seems like it’s all they draft. I guess they figure that he’s a good outfielder so they aren’t gonna mess with it. Also looking at Mookie, he didn’t play OF till his debut year in 2014 (rather remarkable he does as well as he does out there considering that), Ceddanne has been more primarily OF though he gets occasional shortstop starts.
thefaithfulfriar
And he retires in the DR fat and happy…
Knuckles
Another great Chaim Bloom low risk move, except the Sox had just climbed back into the game and this guy instantly turned it into a blowout. I think that qualifies as high risk, at least from the standpoint of this season’s diminishing playoff chances.
'Tang It
That sounds like a Cora problem
Knuckles
He plays the cards that are dealt to him, and most of them have been stinkers!
Dorothy_Mantooth
Last night’s loss basically took Boston out of contention for a wildcard playoff berth, once and for all. Barring a 9-10 game win streak for Boston, both Toronto and Seattle are playing great baseball right now and are becoming less likely to be caught.
Calling up Lamet was an absolute joke. Barraclaugh was pitching so much better than him down in the minors. It sure feels like Lamet is completely cooked at this point. Such a shame because he was so good just a few a years (and a few injuries) ago.
Cooperdooper7
Dorothy (Randolph) Mantooth…..I am not ready to call “EMERGENCY” because the Sox lost last night and say they are out of it. I normally agree with everything you post for the most part, but as long as they win the next two versus KC and take at least 4 out of 6 games vs Detroit and Washington, that should keep them in it a little while longer and make the games versus Houston and LA Dodgers, what will make or break their chances.
Fever Pitch Guy
Cooper – That’s exactly what I have been saying for over a week, they need to go at least 7-3 during this 10-game stretch of weak teams. They got gifted one win by the umpire on Monday, let’s hope there are more gifts in the future.
Both of the next two Royals starting pitchers have ERA’s over 6, so there’s that …
Big Hurt
There’s a reasonable probability that I could throw my 65 MPH gas and 58 MPH knuckler over 25 innings and not give up 35 runs like Lamet. WTH happened to him?
Gwynning
The rumor in SD is he needed surgery in ’20 but declined it for PRP injections. He’s been downhill ever since.

Big fan of that Atlantic League rule that the DH is forfeited if the Starting Pitcher doesn’t complete 5 innings. I’d even concede it to 4 innings at the MLB level. Just so Big Brain Bloom is forced to stop bullpen game/opener nonsense. Winning teams have FIVE (or 7 or 8) guys that can be bothered to throw the first pitch of the 6th inning. Especially when he has DHs masquerading at 3B, LF, sometimes 2B, and RF, in addition to whoever is actually penciled in that day as a DH. They were in the hunt out of the All-Star Break. 15 bullpen games later, and they’re out of it.
John Henry, if you ever see this, it is easier to fire your terrible CBO than it is to get a rule change implemented.

The Brewers took such heat for trading for then releasing this guy before he could throw a pitch for them. All along it was only to take on salary to get a better trade haul. Salary that was immediately taken on by the Rockies when claimed on waivers.

As a fan, my hope is that they stay under the CBT for this year, and starting in the off season, recognize that they are NOT a small market team. There should be zero excuses to not add at the trade deadline come next season. Paying luxury tax last year was a huge mess up.

I saw Barraclough pitch a couple of times in Worcester. He looks fairly solid, I was hoping he’d get a shot.

A lot of potential. He’s probably done. I wasted a draft pick on him in scoresheet keeper league in March…… but it was late round and worth the risk

No one was a legitimate anything in the extended Spring Training that was 2020…

You mean the one short season where Trevor Bauer had a career year and won it? He was not a great pitcher outside that year.

Don’t tell dodger fans that. They won’t shut up.

To those of you who bet on Dinelson Lamet to carry our season…look where we are now.
Not even sure why we make deals to get relief pitchers to pitch two games, then ditch them

It’s called depth. As bad of a move as it is, I understand it. They basically had no good arms in Worcester because they were all in Boston. That, combined with the fact his salary was being paid, and, that he once had great stuff, why not offer the guy a minors deal? It also goes along with Bloom’s idea that you assemble a bullpen from misfit toys.
JoeBrady
They basically had no good arms in Worcester because they were all in Boston.

I mentioned that up top. I had more of a problem using him than promoting him, but the pitching on the 40-man in AAA is gone. Between the RS and AAA, we have 14 major league pitchers. Four of them are on the IL.
Until Sale, Whitlock, Houck & Joely return, we only have 10 pitchers.
Dumpster Divin Theo
Why isn’t Worcester Wooster and not worchester? And Dorchester dooster?
Knuckles
Why don’t we have any depth? Because our brilliant CBO is always looking for a “cost effective” pitcher, meaning a cheap castoff. These are the Boston Red Sox, that used to mean we are in on most major players, now it means look for the retread and hope to catch lightning in a bottle.
okbud
I don’t like Bloom, he’s not good, but it’s an organizational failure imo. Henry has no interest so he screws over Bloom who in turn screws over Cora with these players.
Knuckles
I agree, Henry is the chief culprit. he needs to understand that Fenway Sports group has a crown jewel, and that is the Red Sox, not the Pittsburgh Penguins or some useless soccer team.
JoeBrady

========================
We actually signed two expensive RPs, not cheap cast-offs. You seem to miss the point that we had NO BP. You don’t seem to remember last year, when we had NO BP.
Thanks to the additions, we now have an average BP. But we started with NOTHING.
Knuckles
How many misses have we had … Lamet. Bleier, etc.
Talent evaluation is terrible.
Why do you keep giving these guys in charge passes?
okbud
Bloom does what Henry tells him to do, keep the budget down. It’s like A Few Good Men. Kendrick (Bloom) follows Jessop’s (Henry’s) or people lose careers. That doesn’t make Henry right in the orders he gives.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I think Chris Martin has been excellent. My favorite Red Sox reliever and one move I would give Bloom a solid A grade on.
'Tang It
I doubt anyone thought he was going to make much of a difference. He was brought in as depth.

“Meanwhile” has to start the sentence. It can’t come in the middle with commas on either side. MLBTR writers DESPERATELY need to learn how to use this word.
