JULIO !!!! JULIO !!!! JULIO !!!!
17 HITS IN HIS LAST 22 AB’S. AMAZE-BALLS!
And, yet, his BA is still in the .270s.
Won’t remain there. No question he was going thru a bit of a sophomore slump though. He’s still only 22, still learning.
This may be a question already asked, but if the Mets are in the draft lottery and were to draw the number 1 pick, would they still move down the 10 spots for blowing past the luxury tax threshold?
If they get any of the top six via lottery they do not move down
India was born to be a Marlin. Garrett might be a fair return…
Such a weird year for the Padres and definitely seems unlucky. According to fWAR as a team they’re hitting is 6th and the pitching is 7th in all of baseball. They also rank 6th by defense.
Somehow that adds up to the 20th best record in baseball.
Padre – There’s a very simple reason, your team doesn’t perform well when it matters most – in the clutch.
For example with RISP the Padres have just a .716 OPS which is well below the .755 MLB average.
Sounds like the 2020 Mets, if you watched Foolish Baseball’s video.
The Padres are a collection of All-Stars. They are not a Team.
Generally available statistics have a lot to do with how much players get paid.
They have little to do with why teams win or lose.
I was very surprised by both the question and answer about Spencer Torkelson. Is 30 HR a realistic expectation for NEXT year.
And the answer was (leaning towards) no.
Yo. Tork may very well hit 30 THIS year. He’s got 21 now and he’s been tearing the cover off the ball for the last 6 weeks. I doubt he’s going to regress.
Tork, Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter are all coming of age right now in Detroit. I think if you took the top 3 hitters on each team since the ASG, Detroit’s Big 3 would rank right up there.
And, now I’ve nicknamed them the Motor City’s other Big 3.
Unfortunately, its a big drop off to the rest of the lineup. 3 out of 9, or one out of three, even Meatloaf will tell you, IS bad.
No doubt. But the question was would Tork hit 30 homers next year. He hit another today and has 22 on the year. The way he’s been hitting, it’s reasonable to think he’s going to get 30 this year.
And it’s not a complete drop off after the Big 3. The Tigers have one of the best offensive catchers in Jake Rogers. Hopefully, they get some help in free agency and from the farm. They already have the pitching. Just need some more steady bats (and walking papers for Javy Baez).
Polishuk points out, “It is also possible that the Strasburg/Corbin signings have soured ownership on the idea of such contracts, so Rizzo’s front office will have to take a different approach than their 2012-19 heyday.”
And on the position player side, the bullet they did manage to dodge (Rendon) might well reinforce that sentiment. Imagine how ugly it would be for the Nats, if they were carrying that financial albatross in addition the other two.
Just think back about some of the players on that team… Soto, Harper, Turner, Rendon, Strassburg. They had an amazing run on players
That poor rockies fan…
Time to fire Cashman. Long overdue…Boone too, but he is saddled with this train wreck roster and overrated farm system.
