Why do people forget Rogers Hornsby existed? Hornsby >>> Morgan
Gwynning
This just in, telegram from Eddie Collins…
“LOL”

The Reds made a huge mistake by not adding anything at the deadline.
The Reds remind me of the 2015 Cubs, good young team (granted the Cubs had more pitching), they were clear buyers but not favorites. Epstein made the decision to add a veteran (Dan Haren) pretty much as nothing more than a vote of confidence. It worked.
The Reds went the other direction and the team has fell apart since the deadline. Now they just sat back and watched the Cubs win the series against the Braves and continue to roll. Without a doubt the Clubhouse is talking about the lack or moves and it’s effecting morale

Tim Anderson threw a temper tantrum on Saturday and got knocked out for it. Justice.
What a chump. When your teammate has to literally carry you off the field, that’s how you know you’re the problem

The guy refers to himself as “the modern day Jackie Robinson.” He is a clubhouse menace, but to his own teammates, as well as others.

Anderson’s NEW nickname should be “ole sack of potatoes….. Cause he sure fell like one after he got dropped…after HE “dropped gloves” first……
Oooof

Yeah, as a Sox fan I think I’m over the Tim Anderson show. I’ll always love the field of dreams walk off but come the off season I think it’s time to move on.
In all fairness though, ( and I sure as hell wouldn’t square up with J Ram) whining about being tagged too hard is a weak statement.
Ignorant Son-of-a-b
I heard it wasn’t about being tagged too hard, but that JRam offered his hand out so Timmy could help him up after the play…and Timmy refused the gesture. So JRam saw that as a lack of respect. It was almost like JRam was testing him by doing that though…Timmy failed the test, JRam said something, then BOOM

If you knew anything about Jose Ramirez as a player and as a person, you’d know that he never “whines”. Character-wise, he’s the total opposite of TA.

Anderson will take his hits anyway he can get them

The best 2nd baseman of all time? I’d take Rod Carew over Morgan.
Longtimecoming
Well, 2 greats to pick from but if you lay their stats down side by side it’s not really much of a debate – Morgan wins all categories – except stealing home!
stymeedone
I might take Carew as the better hitter, but he could barely field the position.
mlb1225
Carew ended up playing more first base than second base in his career. Even aside from that, you’re talking about two guys with an almost identical OBP, but Morgan has 164 more extra base hits, over 300 more stolen bases, as well as nearly 20 more bWAR than Carew. Morgan also struck out less often and walked more frequently.

Joe Morgan? Please! Rogers Hornsby head and shoulders above all 2nd baseman and most other positions, as well.
Samuel
Different era’s.
Rogers Hornsby was a great hitter and imposing/aggressive/feared (similar to Ty Cobb) player on the field. He wasn’t the best defensive 2B, but was adequate at the time. His CAREER O stat line was outrageous:
.358 / .434 / .577 / 1.010 – 175 OPS+
Hornby won 2 MVP’s, 2 Triple Crowns, 7 BA Championships, led the NL in HR’s 2 years and RBI’s for 4.
–
Joe was an all-around player. A true 5 tool guy – maybe nothing like him since he retired. Won 5 Gold Gloves, 2 MVP’s, possibly the largest impact player on 2 Championship teams.
–
Joe was a team leader and surely had more impact than Rod Carew (who was not a good fielder and had to be moved to 1B), was an MVP and won 7 batting championships. Little power though. (Much like Luis Arraez today.)
–
I saw Morgan (my favorite player of the 1970’s) and Carew play. I (obviously) never saw Hornsby play. But my father saw him…and Morgan and Carew. While he respected Morgan and Carew and others, he just laughed when a cousin of mine tried to compare modern day 2B’s to Rogers Hornsby.
Longtimecoming
Always problematic when comparing eras. I think the defense and extra base hits (home runs in particular) and SB’s make Morgan th greatest of his time and maybe thru now. Hornsby was great pre-Morgan.
I have personally heard Pete Rose (pretty good 2b coming up) say Morgan was the best ever. He would have a pretty fair perspective over the ever day fan and should have at least been aware of Hornsby.

That tired “bees/beads” schtick gets about as many Rave Reviews as Pete O’Brien’s glove.

It’s just dumb. Also, I forgot what it was all about.

Vlad is another great example that young players don’t necessarily just keep getting better. Something fans and commenters on this site seem to routinely ignore.
