Here’s a clue Mark. The Cardinals will try to move on from Contreras BECAUSE they want to win in 2024.
SweetBabyRayKingsThickThighs
I’m sure some team might listen to offers if they included Walker in the deal
asdfgh
Lol neither of these things happen I suggest you both get with reality and what is said.
DonOsbourne
Check out Bob Nightengale of USA Today. It may not happen at the deadline, but the Cards are trying to move on from Contreras.
stymeedone
Are they willing to sell low and pick up part of the contract? They would also have to cave to claims it was a bad signing. I’m doubting they do that so soon.
drasco036
Moving Contreras, in my opinion, would require Contreras to be willing to take a back up catcher/primary DH role moving forward.
Coming from a Cubs fan, I never liked Contreras behind the plate. He wasn’t a catcher, he was an extremely talented, athletic position player who happened to be playing behind the plate.
A lot of people tend to forget that Contreras didn’t cut his teeth as a catcher, he was a third baseman who for fun put on catcher gear and actually moved well. The fact Contreras was able to roll with catching, to actually become a major league catcher is pretty remarkable but he never learned the nuances of catching. He could hit, had a great arm, could block, had pretty good instincts defensively but he never called a game, never was involved in game planning the way Molina, Barnhart, Gomes, Maldonado are/were.
DonOsbourne
Unless the Yankees take him. He’s over 30, highly paid, and hits with power. The Yankees may need to see him go on the IL a few times to know he’s a good fit, but they may not be able to resist.

M’s trade Gilbert Hancock and Clase for Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman
AverageCommenter
I hope you’re joking
asdfgh
Lol you aren’t in touch with reality man. Pretend GM gets reality ridicule still
Cedric.p.nelson
Maybe this will be a quiet trade deadline crazier things have happened
DarkSide830
Why do people kep suggesting this? SEA is not trading Gilbert and STL is not trading Walker.
hllywdjff
What part of it is light?
hllywdjff
Gilbert would be their #1 starter… I’ll give them woo instead of Hancock
sillywabbit
Gilbert & Kirby are off the table. Pick from any other M’s pitchers if you want consideration.

I believe Hader is a free agent after this year
padrepapi
yeah he’s a rental.
Mark Polishuk
You are correct. I feel like I’ve been writing “Hader has X years of control” in so many posts and chats over the years that I blanked on him actually being a free agent this winter. My mistake!

9:30 Is Shohei the greatest player of all-time?

He’s not even been the best MLB player during a) each season he’s spent in the league, and b) in the time he’s been playing in MLB.
Yes, pitching and hitting is something special. But he hasn’t had a year where he comes off as the best hitter or best pitcher.
The media has been pushing Ohtani! Ohtani! Ohtani! for the clicks – especially with such a weak FA class coming up this year (I no more intend to follow the coming off-season then I expect to live on a diet of nothing but fudge for 5-6 months). Fact is this….
The way baseball is structured one player can only do soo much for a team. If Ohtani! was any different we’d be talking about how he’s spurred the Angels on for 4-plus years; instead of saying that he needs to play with a better team.
He’s a marketers dream. Sadly he’s not going to single-handily get a team “Over The Top” in the next few years, even pitching and hitting. And with the money he’ll be paid due to his marketing presence – short of crazy owners such as those with the Mets and Padres that don’t seemingly care how much money they lose each year – his coming salaries will limit the quality of the established players that will be his teammates.

Dude has the highest OPS in both leagues with the most HRs. He’s got a 3.71 ERA, mostly due to a poor July and probably a blister he’s been bothered by.. But please, continue talking about how he’s overrated.
WeggieJackson44
You lost me after your first sentence (and every baseball exec and any and everyone else in this world who has an ounce of knowledge of the great game). Utter nonsense
DBH1969
Agree with @Weggie. It was hard to accomplish, but the dude probably just posted the dumbest comment this year! Unbelievable!

I realize that the chat is free and I appreciate it. That said, the ‘bees / beads’ seems like a waste of space to me.
iverbure
I’m glad I don’t get it and won’t spend the time to find out and hopefully I never stumble upon the answer on why it’s suppose to be funny or whatever.
kellin
Mark has explained it in a few chats before, but I have zero interest in remembering why..
vtadave
Same. Just dumb and distracting.
IronBallsMcGinty
Regarding expansion and league realignment, would it be AL/NL north east south west?
Snellzilla #7
Or maybe they’ll just start a whole new league. NL, AL, UL, ect…
BasedBall
That’s how I’ve seen most baseball writers suggest it.
I’m thinking it will be something like
NL: South
ATL, MIA, CIN, Nashville
East
PHI, NYM, WAS, PIT
Central
MIL, CHC, STL, COL
West
LAD, SD, SF, ARI
AL:South
TB, HOU, TEX, KC
East
BAL, TOR, NYY, BOS
Central
MIN, DET, CHW, CLE
West
LAA, SEA, Portland, Las Vegas
I’ve seen some writers have suggested a south division in one league and a mountain division in another. Jim Bowden suggested breaking up the Dodgers/Giants and Cubs/Cards but I don’t Manfred is that dumb. Travel distance will probably be a big factor but LA and SF are pretty close, same for STL and CHI.
DBH1969
I would love to see them do away with the divisions and just go with 6 or 8 seeds in each league.
