This week, host Darragh McDonald is joined by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors to discuss:
- The Angels acquired Eduardo Escobar from the Mets and Mike Moustakas from the Rockies (1:25)
- The Pirates and Cubs and Cardinals are thinking about their respective trade deadline approaches (7:20)
- The Yankees’ hopes are hanging on Aaron Judge’s toe (16:05)
Plus, we answer your questions, including:
- How do you think the Red Sox will approach the deadline? Will they try to toe the line like last season (which did not work)? (18:50)
- I would like to know what you think the Padres are going to do? They have numerous holes in that lineup, they are selling out game after game at home? You think major trades forthcoming? Or what? (22:40)
- What do you think are the chances that the Braves trade Vaughn Grissom at the deadline? What caliber of player do you believe a package built around Grissom would bring in? (25:35)

Braves’ roster is pretty stacked. I guess what they need at the deadline depends on the continued performance of Ozuna and Rosario. Also, what can Fried and Wright contribute.
Is Ohtani going to be traded? Lol.
They can trade him for Domingo German, who’s the best pitcher in the history of baseball for the next 15 seconds.
Angels need one good relief pitcher more than anything.
Need to get Anderson out of the starting rotation and another late inning reliever
The answer may be to get a quality starter behind Ohtani and then slot Barria back to the bullpen. Keep in mind Moore will be coming back at some point (the recent soreness didn’t help), but he was a huge 8th inning guy to set up Estevez.
Barria needs to be in the starting rotation, over Anderson. Anderson has been complete garbage to this point
I agree with that but the Angels aren’t going to give up on starting their $39M investment. Now whether they should have paid a soft-throwing lefty starter that much money to begin with is another story…
Warren Spann was a soft throwing hurler and so was Roy Face! I know it was a different time but they did pretty dam good!!
What? The Angels bullpen is probably their strongest component. They need Neto back and to cut bait on Rengifo. They could also use one more SP.
How many times the pen gave away a game? And the closer seems to be able to pitch only once or twice a week.
Estevez is 20 for 20 in save opportunities. Can’t really do any better than that. A lot of the bullpen that have cost the Angels, Herget, Quijada, Tepera, Wantz, are no longer with the team. The only one that most fans have an issue with is Loup. The starting pitching has been much better, particularly Detmers and Ohtani.
The bullpen has plenty of options from the right side, Devenski, Webb, Soriano, Bachman, and Estevez. With Moore out, I don’t have the most confidence in the left hand options in Loup and Davidson. I would take an upgrade there, but wouldn’t give up a guy like Adell in order to get an upgrade.
Spot on. The blowpen has given up 7 late inning leads of 2 runs or more, 5 of 3 runs or more. That stings…at least 5 games they should have easily won!
The more informative question would be: How many times has the pen given the game away when the offense is either giving no run support, or starters can’t get past the 5th inning because they can’t put hitters away and are constantly leaving with traffic on the bases, or their defense fails them? Blown saves are a BS stat because there are too many variables such as those that factor into them. It could even be a 2-1 lead in the 7th inning that any team could blow, and then still turn out to be a 3-2 win. You win the game but you still got a blown save. Their bullpen has been their biggest strength aside from home runs.
I think the Braves will be looking at pitching. A reliever with closing capability is possible as is possibly a starter if one of enough quality is available.
Grissom in a deal with the white sox for Giolito or Lynn, plus something else. Then the sox could flip TA to the dodgers.
Lmao…. Atlanta’s not trading 6 years of Grissom for a rental period. That something else would have to be better than the SP. That’s just ridiculous. If they didn’t call him up due to injury last year he’d be a Top50 or higher prospect right now lol
Giolito or Lynn plus “something else” unless it’s really good isn’t going to get that done.
Marcus Stroman: “extend me right now while I’m pitching the best ball of my life at an unsustainable level. I want to be over paid for the next 3-5 years for what I’ve done these last 3 months and I’ll negotiate in the media.”
That’s baseball. Buy high and sell low.
Can you blame him?
Yes. Management nor player should ever negotiate through the media. I thought it very wrong when Oli Marmol castigated Tyler O’Neill publicly ( and it sure didnt help the team) and the Cubs would be fools to extend Stroman at this time.
I don’t blame any player for promoting himself and touting his value. Their careers are short and they deserve to make as much as the highest bidder is willing to pay.
They’re doing it for themselves and on behalf of generations of players who were exploited and underpaid before the reserve system was struck down in the Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally cases in 1975.
Good for them.
Spoken .like a true snowflake
Spoken like a true brainwashed idiot.
What do you even think a “true snowflake” is?
You guys missed Muncys return
An article talked about it yesterday.
I’d like Lucas Giolito, Brad Hand, and or Kendall Graveman to Halos.
